It was his election to lose

He made a risky calculation to say his personal beliefs over being diplomatic and centristic, and that risk backfired putting him in the losing position.

Aiken still won by large margins (in the 70's) here in SW Missouri. Yeah, they are almost as bad as Kansas. Heard one guy this morning say, "I'm going to vote to make the Whitehouse white again."

If a person thinks that women can't get pregnant by rape and it's therefore not a concern, then that person is incompetent.

It's not a matter of "personal beliefs." It's a matter of fact.

Good. Other human beings should be more important to people than political parties. It's sad that this troglodyte even had a shot at winning.

Of course, I'm sure if you were to ask Akin, he'd tell you that the duck didn't "develop" anything. Those anti-rape-sperm passages were specifically designed and placed there by God, as was the male ducks' insatiable impulse to rape.

God apparently really hates ducks.

/And women, for that matter

The GOP got its teeth kicked in tonight. Maybe if they expel the rape apologists and misogynists and birthers and racists and creationists . . . well, they'd have to start over.

I wish. A good friend of mine posted on Facebook that it was god's will that we all vote for Romney and rid the world of the evil that has brought America and the world to this low or somesuch....I just avoid reading her posts when she's on a god-bothering tear. But I'd really like to respond.

Why can't it be just as much god's will that Obama won and Romney lost as the other way around? Why assume that Romney was god's chosen? Because he's the white guy?

But I keep that shiat off Facebook.

cman: It was his election to lose

He made a risky calculation to say his personal beliefs over being diplomatic and centristic, and that risk backfired putting him in the losing position.

He opened his mouth and people found out what he believed - and that cost him the election. It's as simple as that, and it's a damn good thing too. His problem wasn't that he said his beliefs out loud... his problem was really that he held those beliefs to begin with - not just that people found out about it.

Exactly! This isn't the legitimate flip side of some political issue, this is pure bullshiat versus science. These are the kind of people that shouldn't be within 100 miles of any legislative position, let alone the goddamn farkin' House Science Committee! No, it was still better than Liddy Dole's "concession" speech in 2008.

Remember, she started losing the race in September, so she ran a series of ads calling her opponent Kay Hagan (a Sunday school teacher and church deacon) godless.

i agree with cman on his first line of : "It was his election to lose" ... it was.

since it should've been easy for anyone to win in that race. but then he let his true archaic and ridiculously ill-informed beliefs be known. glad he did.

if the R party actually ran a sensible candidate she probably would not have won. that sentiment applies to many races. and many R candidates. maybe it is time to think about your core beliefs republicans? maybe try to align them with the nation?

just a suggestion. i used to be pretty split-ticket myself... but in the last 4 years i just can't do it anymore. even on local races where 'party before country' is a bit less... i just can't do it.

nowadays too many R candidates on the local level espouse things they will NEVER have any influence on being a GD assemblyman (abortion / gun rights / etc). but do so to get votes from the pathetically pavlovian R base. that kind of pandering is pathetic. and they lose my vote the instant i hear / see any such BS.

get your shiat together conservatives. this whole rote partisan / hardcore-randian teabagger crap is tiresome. there used to be a time i could un-apologetically vote for some of you. i can't now. that ship has sailed.

/never been party-affiliated... ever. like the majority of alaskans actually.
//even being a hard 'red' state... unaffiliated + undeclared are the majority vs. R or D.

I'd like to think some sort of party memo will be issued telling GOP members to STFU about this issue forever. Thing is, they weren't beaten soundly enough, so they'll probably just look at fine-tuning the strategy and making less rape remarks to the press next time.

I'm sorry, but the GOP isn't going to stop being obsessed with vajajays anytime soon.

Unfortunately, The Republican party's alliance with the patriarchists is the only thing keeping them moderately competitive these days given how they've burnt every bridge between them and female & non-white voters over the last 50 years. As stinging as these losses are, the Republican party simply cannot abandon that despicable advocacy, and as a result, we'll continue to see their disgusting -and successful- campaign of discrimination and medical quackery play out on the State and local level.

On a happier (and more egotistical) note, I would just like to remind all the other old Fark hands that I farking called this shiat back in 2009. Even WITH their vote suppressing shenanigans, the R's couldn't win this election because 1) Romney wasn't a candidate the base could really get behind, 2) Any candidate the base COULD get behind would have been repellant to undecideds and moderate Republicans, and 3) The Demographics of the US have changed enough that you can no longer win an election solely through the white vote, and particularly through the Old White Male Vote. I would humbly suggest that those who doubted my analysis kindly queue to the left; the crow pies shall be served fresh, and in a professional manner.
