I live up near Boston and one of the commentators on the local news said, "The Senate just didn't feel right without a Kennedy."

2012-11-06 10:55:59 PM
Oops...I meant Congress, I was just distracted by a conversation I was having about the Senate.

I'll be heading to Washington soon, too. FOR THE WEED.

Yeah, Kennedy's in the spotlight. This always ends well. That motherfarker better not kick the bucket and lose the seat to a Republican.

I think the Kennedys should fight the Bushes in a winner-take-all cage match to decide which dynasty gets to stay in politics.

I thought the exact same thing about Rand Paul.

You know, I voted for Kennedy not because of his last name (though I will admit that it helped him to get people to look at him and bother to listen to him) but because Bielat just was not a good candidate. And while I'm sure there are people here who voted him in because of his name, remember that he won 60-30 against a guy who lost this race once before by 10+%. So while he may be a Kennedy, we don't just elect people because of his name, we elect him because he's right for the state

not a goddamn carpetbagger that left when he lost last time and came back when he heard Frank was retiring. We don't need those assholes in Congress

That's my new Representative... He beat Beilat like a red-headed step child.

Kid has got good head on his shoulders and I liked what he had to say during the campaign.

He's got some big shoes to fill and I don't see him being as confrontational as Frank, but I'm happy to have him as a Rep, and it's promising that he spent a lot of time down here on the South Coast, much like Frank did.

I'm also extremely happy to be sending Liz Warren to Congress as my Senator.

Nah, you still deserve ridicule for perpetuating the Kennedy clan.

Ted Kennedy's Brain Tumor: Nah, you still deserve ridicule for perpetuating the Kennedy clan.

Then give us a better candidate for either the republicans or democrats. Don't blame us when nothing better comes along without the last name Kennedy.

I hate to tell you but some families are good at politics and excel at it. The Kennedys are one of those families. If they help out the people of Massachusetts and do what they should do for what is best in this country, then why should we fault them for a last name. That seems pretty petty. I think Jeb Bush is a decent guy and I'm sure he's a good governor, regardless of his name.

Sure winning a congressional seat is nice, but I'd still rather be the Kennedy banging Taylor Swift.

The Kennedy Family is quite large... Joe's family have done much for the people in Massachusetts and New England.

Joe Jr. also did a fairly good job as a prosecutor and Assistant DA in Middlesex County.

All politics is local, my friend. I voted for the man, not his name... And I'm looking forward to him representing the MA 4th District in Washington.

That may be true, but the only reason 'the man' was even on the ballot was because of his last name.

If you say so... No offense, but if you don't live in the MA 4th congressional district, I'm really not concerned about your opinion on who we elect to represent us in the House.

I liked what Kennedy had to say. I agreed with Kennedy more than Beilat, who was basically a cookie cutter Republican.

That's all that matter to me when I cast my ballot for him.

Is your problem his age? 32 isn't too bad. He's been a successful prosecutor and assistant DA. Xhances are that you don't have to look too far to find other members of congress that are less accomplished, far more idiotic and much older.

What he said. Nepotism sucks, whether it's a Kennedy, a Bush, Nick Cage or Will Smith's kids. It never ends well.

Not pleased he had a virtually clear field in the primary.

Pleased he won the general election. Probably relatively unqualified for a nominee, but he has a good head on his shoulders, and it's not like Bielat had that great a resume either. Besides, I like how he'll actually vote.

Right... and I don't think he's that unqualified. He was a prosecutor and an Assistant D.A. He'll vote pretty much the way Barney Frank voted which is good enough for me as one of his constituents.

I didn't like what Beilat was saying... He completely ignored my area of the state (South Coast), and, most importantly, I'm of the opinion that no one associated with the GOP these days deserves my vote. Plain and simple.

His supporters certainly had a presence in Needham, where I live, although I didn't pay much attention to things like campaign appearances. Bielat didn't seem like that bad a guy from what I've read about him, but no one with an R next to his name is getting my vote at this point. I detest the nihilist, drown government in the bathtub national Republicans and I like most of what the Democrats are doing - it wasn't a hard decision at all.

Because being elected by the people is "nepotism."

So a Kennedy doesn't have an advantage in politics because he's a Kennedy? All the Kennedys are just coincidentally good at politics?

You don't have to be right wing to see that the Kennedys are assholes. Same with the Bushes so it's not a partisan thing.

Again, the Kennedys have done exactly zero to put this country in danger or have any sort of legacy that comes close to the Bush Crime Family.

Thank you for making me repeat what should have sunk in the first time, and we're done here.

Well let's see. John got us into Viet Nam. Ted killed a girl. While they didn't literally put our nation in jeopardy as you say, they did kill a lot of people.
