And this, dear children, is why Florida has its own tag.

There aren't enough facepalms on the planet to cover this.

MIT stands for "Massachusetts Institute of Technology" - a school where students tend to know how to spell

Name the top three aspects of MIT's reputation. I doubt spelling is among them.

I picture a seventy-something year-old election volunteer b*tching to the supervisor: "Goddammit! M-I-T spells MIT, as in Mitt Romney!"

Still not as funny as CT trying to classify wearing WWE shirts as "electioneering"

Yeah, but do they know the difference between plural and singular, unlike subby?

/Headline says "Women," in case it gets corrected.

I'd be suspicious of her too. Everyone knows women can't be engineers.

That's why MIT has biology and humanities departments.

Have you seen some of the women at MIT? Its definitely a crapshoot.

Also, am I the only one where the quote button only chooses to quote one or two words instead of the whole thing?

If you highlight part of it, it'll only quote that part. Which annoys me when I'm sarching to see if anyone said something (to make sure my jokes haven't been used yet) and then quote some one else because I forgot I searched.

Luckily that's not a problem while Farking on my Xbox, because I can't search or highlight at all! No red squiglies to point out typos either.

Well, my observational sampling of MIT women grads definitely falls into positive territory, even fifteen years out.

And if you have any text highlighted when you select to quote, that's the only text copied to the comment field.

/wife is an MIT grad; she has many MIT grad friends and is in an alumni club
//many show up to pool parties, look just fine in bathing suits

I can't find my MIT t-shirt. Guess I need to replace that too.

Subby,
Shouldn't it be "an" MIT t-shirt. Does this make me smarter than an MIT student?

A "MIT" t-shirt should read M.I.T.

And I don't know why Mr.Romney calls himself Mitt. The name is Willard. Just like the rat.

I know an MIT humanities/engineering major. He's a fantastic writer (and speller--they don't always go hand-in-hand). Does it for a living, as a matter of fact.

Also love Alan Lightman's work, although he's a professor there and wasn't a student.

Well, the poll workers shouldn't have profiled her, but you can understand their suspicions. MIT is one of the best engineering and science schools in the United States. You don't get that way by admitting a lot of American citizens.

I was wearing a Dr Seuss shirt tonight(I celebrate the childhood that was ripped from me by forces beyond my control, give me a break), and didn't realize it until I got there. I was half afraid that since Dr Seuss is more or less considered to write basic education books for children, they might accuse me of supporting 'educational elitists' or something similar.

Since the GOP absolutely loathes anything education related, at first glance of the headline, I thought that was why the woman got banned, not because people are too retarded to spell AND don't know that MIT is a farking university, yet are allowed to manage our Presidential elections.

2012-11-07 03:28:05 AM
The average American IQ is 100, which might help explain this kind of thing.

It's why I don't fark very often on my phone. No spellcheck, no easy way to use markup language, and no easy way to select just part of a post to respond to, which is what I do when they get really long. In other words, if one of my posts has a page of quoted text, with a one line replay at the bottom, I'm going mobile(Kinda like The Who).

FTFA: Throughout the area, lines are averaging an hour at mid-day in part due to the six page ballot in use in much of unincorporated South Palm Beach County and Boca Raton. Based on observations, it appears that election officials are not making it clear to voters that arrows must be connected on the ballot to constitute a vote, and that there are questions or candidates on each of the six pages. Additionally, there is just one "scantronic" machine in use at most locations, slowing down the process. Each page of the ballot must be fed into the machine.

Is it some sort of cherished tradition within the Palm Beach board of elections to attempt to become an Election Day comedy each time?

My wife works in the Metallurgical School at the University of Utah. You would not believe the ration of Asians to Americans. No joke, it's probably 80/20, if that.
