I was in a restaurant tonight where they had the election coverage going on in the bar. Every time there was a cheer, I went into the bar and asked what was going on.

Then I started to cry...because...WE WON.

We farking WON.

Probably the best election results since I got the vote when I was 18...in 1972...and I have voted in every goddamn single election since then.

If "people" tell you your vote doesn't matter, just whoop them upside the head and tell them to go to Hell. We WON. We won because we didn't buy into R-money's flip-flopping, lies, and Karl Rove's beaucoup bucks trying to buy this election.

Hear me well. I'm 62 years old and cried when the results came in.

And, in our state, Marriage Equality passed, by a huge margin! My daughter and her partner of 8 years can now get married!

(As Mother of the Bride, I say we're going to have a HUGE party.) Yes.

Thank you to EVERYONE who voted. Those who didn't...you don't get to biatch. You are losers.

My daughter, her partner, me, and the rest of the country thank you for your votes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I love you all. For forever.

If Obama wins, I'm going to be incredibly happy, not just for the political ramifications, but for the man himself. This is a guy who was yelled at during the State of the Union. This was a guy that prominent members of his opposition said wasn't an American citizen, and only won in 2008 because of blah people on welfare. His first term was an unprecedented glimpse into just how crazy half of America is.

And if he wins again tonight, we're sending a message that while we're not the loudest, we non-crazies got your back, Bronco.

It has been my experience that many election predictions and projections disappear once they've been horribly disproven. So I took some time to screen-grab as many of the predictions I could find. I want to use this as a tool, as to which poll or aggregator to watch most closely next time.

But you may find it a little fun to remind your far-leaning friends who pointed to their favorite biased "news source" that they were led horribly wrong. Maybe it could shake them awake...or it will drive them to start to shout "election fixing!"

Whatever, I've loosely laid them out ranging from "Obama Landslide" to "Romney Landslide." Hope you find this cool and not annoying.

Yes, thank you Weaver95. Several months ago I hesitated in Favoriting you as you were a self professed conservative. But you seemed like a REAL conservative. Someone who had a clear head, someone who's ideals and beliefs were thought out with great effort, You knew what you were talking about, and you never came off as cruel as the GOP. Ever since then whenever I saw the green, I never regretted it.

In every Politics thread you have been a refreshing and competent speaker, funny as hell too, so again thank you.

You know, we keep trying. Maybe this time we actually made a difference. Don't give up on us, please. My family emigrated from Canada (Quebec...maybe that doesn't count?) in the 1800s. If R-Money had won, I would have taken advantage of our family's roots and done the immigration thing. Thankfully, we don't have to!

I love my country, but I hate politicians. I want a Queen/King and Parliament. I'm sick of going through two years of "electioneering" in a President's first term just to get a second term. You guys have done it the right way. But we're stuck with a "two-party system" and that's why we will NEVER have the option you do.

Once again, the US shows the rest of the world how to handle a change (or in this case not) of power. My only hope is the Republican party learns from this and jettisons the crazies and fundies and Tea Partiers making them a laughing stock. I'm an independent and vote Democratic because the Republican party has strayed so far from its ideals it is insane. I would like a choice on election day, I really do, but the GOP gives me none. I would not vote for anyone who sees American through such a filter of hate.

shower_in_my_socks: "First open lesbian in the Senate!" -- Andrew Sullivan

50 Shades of Red White and Blue
www.imageenvision.com

It was Elizabeth Warren's first night in the Senate. It had been a long, hard, day and she could feel the sweat sticking to her suit. She was really glad she wore a loose shirt and forgot the panties, if she had to work all day yelling at old white men at least she wasn't going to overheat.

She sat back at her desk, leaned back in her chair and peered into the neighboring office. It looked like the interns had taken off a long time ago. The Capital drained quickly after the last session and she suddenly felt like the only person left in the building. Kicking her shoes off and losing the jacket she grabbed a water bottle out of the refrigerator and ran it down the back of her head and around the curve of her neck. Pausing just under her jaw line she ran the bottle up the front of her face, brushing the cool wetness across her lips and feeling refreshed enough to finish up for the night.

*knock*knock*
The door wasn't latched; the rapping at the door seeming less as a request to enter and more as a subtle self invitation. The door swung open before Elizabeth could compose herself. Still leaning over the refrigerator facing the doorway Senator Warren became instantly conciouse of just how loose the front of her shirt probably was. Forgetting the bra was ok with the jacket on, but she seemed beyond casual and bordering on inappropriate.

"Hi, I'm Tammy..." the middle aged and homely yet curiously attractive woman said leaning into the doorway. "Long day for you too? I bet these men's wives wish they put 1/10th of the vitality into their marriages as they do being pigs and fatcats all day. Say, got another one of those waters in there?"

Elizabeth took the question as a reminder to stand the rest of the way up. "Sure..." she replied handing Tammy the bottle in her hand and getting another out for herself.

"wow, that feels incredible" Tammy said, as she caressed the bottle against her skin not unlike Elizabeth had just done herself.
Much too intentionally Tammy, instead of pausing at her jaw with the bottle, slowly lowered the bottle down the front of her open jacket before she played the movement off by then swiftly opening in and taking a drink. Elizabeth had felt her eyes on her until she looked up, to which Tammy casually shifted her gaze across the room.

"My office was mostly in order when I got here this morning. My entire staff seems to have things down better than I do." Pointing around the office and continuing, "You look like you could use a bit of help moving the rest of the way in though, want some help pushing that file cabinet against the wall?"

"Sure" Elizabeth said, happy to have one less chore done.

Edging the Nixon era filing cabinet into it's spot a bit too fast, the top drawer slides shut before Tammy can move her fingers. "Damnit!" she exploded, slamming her just-injured fist into the wall.

"Careful there, let me look at it" Elizabeth said, half scared and half shocked at her colleagues volatile frustration. She guided Tammy to sit down and grabbed her hand and the bottle of water, pouring soothing cool water of the reddened fingers. Elizabeth realized her colleague was tremoring.

"It's ok, it's just been a lot to handle for one day. Here, I've been sitting down all afternoon, have your chair." Before Elizabeth could protest she found herself already relaxing back into her seat and feeling the weight of the day. "See? My hand isn't even hurt" Tammy reassured, rubbing Elizabeth's shoulders loose. Woozy from relief, Warren found herself letting her head relax back and rest on the waist of her new friend. Tammy paused just for a second and asked "You have anything to drink in here. Anything, not so cold and smooth?"

"You read my mind." Elizabeth smiles. Leaning down and opening her desk drawer. Next to her purse and the bottle of Wine her aid Anthony had bought her earlier she saw a dusty half bottle of scotch hiding against the back of the drawer. Pausing only for a second to deliberate, she reached to the old bottle and scanned the liquid with a sidewards look before puling off the top and taking a good strong draw. "Here, Tammy"

Elizabeth passed the bottle, though Tammy's large hands seem to receive her hand as much as she did the bottle. "Boy, if they could see us 100 years ago." Elizabeth pondered with a nervous laugh.

"Boy, nothing. This is a girl's hill now, Warren." Tammy replied. Tammy ignored the bottle and while holding it and Elizabeth's hand she drew in close and kissed the glistening liquor lingering on Elizabeth's lips

Has anyone read this month's Harper's article re: how the GOP is rigging the election? This was some scary, scary shiat. Basically, the gist of it is that just a handful of very shady, very rich companies own and operate the voting machines which, thanks to a greater number of them being electronic, can be tweaked to ignore or even outright flip votes coming from blue precincts. All this via inscrutable software patches and convenient glitches. And the icing is that since it's all electronic there's no paper trail to investigate fishy counts.

A couple of comments...

Christie's stock has risen this past week, and to see it here means his conciliatory, mature behavior has really struck home for folks across the political spectrum. If - a big if, no pun intended - he's half-seriously eyeing a 2016 run, and keeps on trucking politically as he has been (and not pull a Guiliani), he has to lose 100lbs just to be able to take a national campaign. It would make the next presidential election very interesting indeed.

I'm not an Obama fan and didn't vote for him, but tonight's statistically tight but slowly emerging win is no surprise. It won't be to any thinking voter. The far right crazies and the R/R ticket itself has hamstrung any chance of pulling a win off. The collective derpitude scares the reasonable right and the moderates. Besides, I don't think the country was ready for its new Mormon overlords anyway.

With about 20% of Missouri precincts reporting:

Romney wins the state
Claire McCaskill (D) beats Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin for a Senate seat
We retain Jay Nixon (D) as Governor
We do not change how we appoint judges (a.k.a. the Missouri plan)
We return control of the St. Louis police force from the Governor to St. Louis
We're probably not going to raise our cigarette tax (but it's close)
And we're prohibiting the governor from creating an Affordable Care Act health care exchange, even though we pay for it.

That last one demonstrates that we, as a state, are idiots.

I think there's going to be a momentum to this. The more states that pass it, the less likely the federal government will want to deal with it, until finally something happens legislatively on the national level. We'll have to drag the South kicking and screaming into change as usual.

The problem with FL is its extremely OLD population. (The MIL is 90.)

If you want clean elections in FL, you've got to make it easier for the addled, confused, and just plain nearly dead to vote. Because, let's face it...they were the generation who made it possible for us to be more successful than they were.

no, we still get screwed, and rural states still are over valued. we just happened to win one is all. the system still devalues anyone but 2-party candidates, and anyone living in a big city or a larger population state. The minimum 3 electoral vote rule means big population states (texas and florida too) have less representation than wyoming or iowa or south dakota or the entire sea of red on the electoral college map.

electoral college was an 18th century white farm slaveowner / merchant smuggler's dream government. the more property you own the more access you have. it is terribly out of date with reality in 2012.

It's both amusing and depressing. From a psychological standpoint, it's interesting to see them call Obama and Clinton "divisive" while simultaneously saying things like

"As per my original post weeks ago, we hired a liberal deliberately so we can fire him once Odumbo wins. Well, because I'm a man of my word, this puke will be fired at the end of the day.... It will make me feel good as every liberal's misery is my happiness"

And they wonder why more and more people are turning away from their party.

Just concede, dude. It's over. I know you've been running for president your whole life and this is the closest you will ever get to achieving that dream but sometimes you've just got to let go. They should be. I can't watch Fox without really starting to suspect it's a genius left-wing conspiracy. Same goes for Trump. You can't tell me Trump wasn't worth a couple of million votes for Obama which wouldn't have happened if he'd just kept out of "trying to help" the Republicans. That shiat was inspirational, just not in the direction it was supposedly trying to be.

Meanwhile, in Freeperville...

---I think I'm going to throw up.

---For Obama to get this many votes - it is over. The America we once knew is gone.

---There will be no going back from this. We have gone over the tipping point.

---It's time to figure out how to collect what's left of the marbles and get out. Going Galt.

---RINOs don't bother asking for my for my vote again... ever!

---Bob Dole lost- ready for Palin 2016

---7 wasted trips to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin while Obama was in FL and OH. Brain-searing stupid.

---Holding our noses and voting for Romney didn't work after all

---Welcome to ghetto nation.

---God have mercy on this nation. And have mercy on Israel as well.

---It looks like the freeloaders and the "lady parts" got their REVENGE on America. Well, we tried to tell them. It's all downhill from here.

---The Devil has won.

---I will project that the GOP is also dead.

---Donated so many hours for this??? I am sick.

---Can/will Boehner ready impeachment proceedings for something?

---the GOP got EVERYTHING it deserved tonight...we (the Tea Party) handed them a monumental victory 2 years ago and they repaid us by saying F-U....

WombatControl: Interesting... it's looking like the polls did get it right this cycle. Thus far, the electorate is looking to be D+6, which is just too much for Romney to win. D+3, Romney wins. D+6, he doesn't.

Given the precincts still out in VA and FL, it looks like Romney's toast. OH isn't looking great either. Obama did worse than he did in 2008, but not enough to make a difference in the swing states. Not the big Obama wins that some of the swing-state polls were showing, but well within the margin of error.

Oh well, being a superpower for a century was a good run. Hopefully the next superpower will be democratic India rather than totalitarian China. But the United States has abdicated its leadership in the world, abdicated its responsibilities at home, and has lost its edge. We've hit the panem et circuses stage, and unfortunately that never bodes well for a civilization.

Makes me think of my better half, who insists that AZ is just so irredeemably red... but I've lived here all my life and that redness is slowly fading, and starting to show a bare lavender tint, especially the more the metro Phoenix area grows. You can also factor in the dilution of the once-decisive Mormon block in the east valley. Tucson is notoriously liberal, but it's also less in population.

The tears and cognitive dissonance are absolutely amazing.

Just heard a lady talking head try to assert that this election had nothing to do with reproductive rights and everything to do with the economy and that Americans who voted for Obama "just didn't get it".

Then went on to explain that the poor Evangelical turnout for Mitt had to do with a lack of outreach on his part and nothing to do with the fundie's aversion to people from planet Kolob.

Just hilarious.

In 2008, Mr. Obama carried Virginia, the first Democrat to do so since 1964, largely based on his strong showing in Northern Virginia. Mr. Romney will need to cut into Mr. Obama's 2008 levels of support in the socially moderate, affluent suburbs of Washington to turn Virginia red again.

Well since they seem to like the idea of a theocracy, Iran seems suitable for them. Then they can get a good look at what they want to turn the US into.

Same here. It only took massive natural disaster and his state being plummeting into the stone age for him to respect the president, though. So there's that. But kudos to him for the job he's been doing.
