I know nothing of Whitesnake, but the wife has a supernatural ability to tell one Journey song from another.

What's with TFA's 20+ year old pic of Whitesnake? They afraid a current pic of either band is going to terrify the fanbase?

TK was in a horror movie, something with a ouija board, long ago. yummy.

i was waiting in line to pick up prescriptions when a guy was telling the pharmacist, a friend of his, about being dragged to a 80's bands show in Atlantic City a few years ago. it was pretty funny how he described the once hot thin tall-hair high school girls that attended who were screaming enthusiastic raving fans, now overweight and aged, but still perfectly willing to unhook their oversize bras and let the whales flop about. when i got home i had to double down on my meds to get over that story.

The spouse and I saw an ad for some band that neither of us had even thought of in years, much less heard anything from in years. We looked at each other, and said," They're still around? Must be some weird hipster tribute thing." No, the picture at the end of the ad, showed the band line-up, and holy cow, those are some worn out looking scary dudes. But, enough about the Stones.

I would rather spring for a pay-per-view, and enjoy the concert in my living room than pay huge ticket prices for cramped seats with no view.

Twenty five years from now today's female fans will be even fatter and letting their tattoo'd and pierced whales flop about at a Skrillex show at the State Fair.

Why is that sad? Both bands are great, and last time I saw Whitesnake, Reb Beach was playing guitar. That you should see live at least once.

Amen to that. Reb had the misfortune of starting out in Winger, but he is a great guitarist. I went to a guitar clinic he gave in the early 90's and he is a great player and really nice guy. As for Whitesnake: I hate the "80's ballad-y shiat" they did, but Whitesnake is one of the better hard rock bands. Slow and easy is a kick ass song.

Eh, early Whitesnake (probably up to Saints n Sinners) were a semi decent Deep Purple knockoff. Bernie Marsden was a pretty good guitarist, and if you like that 70's bluesy boogie you'll probably like those records. And I'll always stick up for Journey's unfairly maligned first three semi proggy records. Aynsley Dunbar and Gregg Rolie were great in that band and Schon plays as well as he ever did outside Santana.

Here in Canada, there were a number of "big name bands" that surfaced in the 80's (Glass Tiger, Kim Mitchell, Honeymoon Suite, etc.).

I had thought they had just faded away (as they should have), but found on a recent trip to Toronto that they were still going strong and as popular as ever.

Oh Toronto, why do you suck so much?

Saw Journey this summer touring with Loverboy. It was a great fun show.

/Journey was my first concert, back in the 80s

Will this be the actual "classic" band line-up? Or will it be the usual "original drummer, guy who filled in for the lead singer for 3 shows back in 1988, & 3 studio musicians that no one's ever heard of before" because the original members still hate each other?

Just saw Journey at Mohegan Sun with Loverboy opening hte past weekend. Loverbooy sucked balls. Awful frontman and musically it sounded like they were each off. Journey rocked and the music was tight. Pat Benatar was on the bill but never showed up. Probably fell off her swing.

We were looking forward to hearing her but knew something was up when Loverboy played 3 songs more than what we saw their setlist to be on sites reviewing previous shows. Journey was great and had some fun in the casinos after the show. As far as the crowd goes, there were some older folks (we're early 40s) but there were a lot of people in their 20s as well. Arena was packed.

Whitesnake has always been, "David Coverdale and whoever he's hired for the tour."

I always notice this "original lineup" thing is mostly a classic rock fan's obession. In jazz you pretty much expect the lineups to rotate in and out with new guys. Sit-ins are common and encouraged in jazz. Meanwhile in metal, a lot of the "bands" are just one or two guys, who write all the music and play most of the instruments on the albums, and they hire a few extra guys for the tours.

Their third album, Pull is an under-rated gem, especially the singles at the time, "Down Incognito" and "Blind Revolution Mad." There were several hair bands around that time (around '91 to about '93 or '94) who started to come into their own w/more mature hard rock albums that ended up falling by the wayside as the tides were shifting toward alternative rock. Watching Headbangers Ball at the time, I saw a lot of overlap, so they might have a line-up of videos of Winger-->Alice in Chains-->Skid Row-->Motorhead-->Soundgarden, for example, and it was all sort of fair game.

I WOULD GO!!!! I saw the White Tour (must've been around 1990?) with Great White, White Lion, and Whitesnake. It was great! I saw Journey with Steve and not too long ago with the new fella.
And not all of us a fat, wrinkly and heavily tattooed. Perhaps you are speaking for yourselves.
I hope they come here!

Albums i had on 8-Track, any song that got chopped up and continued on the next Track, it still messes me up when i hear those old tunes, because that Track change is still deeply embedded in my aging, resin laced brain.

'Hitch a Ride' by Boston still sounds strange without the guitar solo getting cut in half and then starting again on the the next track. Ka-chunk indeed.
