I'm in Colorado, we have it on the ballot here.

I voted yes, let's legalize.

I doubt it will pass.

I hope it passes - if only because it will raise my property value overnight.

It is on Oregon's also. I also voted yes.

Even if the government makes 0 dollars and 0 cents off of the legalization of weed they will save enormous amounts by not enforcing it as an illegal drug.

Asked pops if he voted for it in WA. Said no, but not because of what I thought it would be: he didn't vote for it because it is an initiative and he always votes no on initiatives. Oh well, I can at least respect his consistency. Now, time to blaze!

I knew a lot of weed smokers who were against it. Same arguments that they used to prevent California legalizing it for recreational use

- It will harm the growers
- There will be too much regulation
- "Corporate" weed will take over
- Makes things worse for medical MJ users

No idea how accurate any of the arguments are, but I've seen several pot smoking Facebook friends arguing against it for the last month.

I'm not sure how the US system works, but doesn't this aren't any salesmen and/or consumers of marijuana vulnerable to arrest and prosecution by the fed?

Well, I shiat the bed on that post. Deleted a few too many words.

Anyways, what I was trying to say: Even if the states approve Marijuana for sale and consumption, won't the fed just crack down on the retail markets and consumers?

Probably not the consumers, there aren't enough DEA agents to arrest the individuals. A fight is coming with the Feds over the law, but no one knows how that will play out or what they will try to do, they've been quiet about it. Individual users are usually safe.

Technically yes, they could. But California has been allowing medicinal use since 1996, and the feds haven't managed to stop that even. And now there are over a dozen other states that have also passed bills that legalized medical marijuana. I think what it boils down to is that the DEA doesn't have the resources to shut down all of the dispensaries, and they sure don't have the resources to go after everyone involved in a legal(at the state-level) business.

Of course it's going to be a while before anything goes that far, though. The ballot measures may have passed, but the Feds could threaten to withhold funding if the States go through with it. Just like when they forced all the states to adopt 21 as the new drinking age by threatening to pull the federal highway funds of any state that didn't comply.

This is an important step in the right direction, and it opens the door for similar ballots in other states to be taken more seriously. But it's going to take a lot of states approving it until the Federal Government is forced to actually discuss the issue.
