Yeah, that's not how that works.

The value of your vote is proportional to either the number of electoral votes your state has or its square root, depending which model you believe. So basically, the exact opposite of that link.

I live in Nebraska (outside of Omaha). So thanks to the electoral college, my vote for president means absolutely nothing.

As a Californian, I pretty much vote for President because I'm already in the process of voting for all the other stuff, so why not?

In my lifetime, CA has never been a swing state, although it was once reliably Republican.

Not necessarily. Check the election results for your state to get a better picture of how truly red or blue it is. Texas, for example, is not 99% R voters. It's actually a lot closer to 55/45 (R/D).

Like California, we have a huge Latino population that has a tendency to be more in line with Democratic platforms. If enough of them actually voted, along with all the Dems who don't vote because they don't think their votes count? Texas could go blue in a heartbeat.

28 times for Republicans (including all 5 times Nixon was on the ticket)
9 times for Democrats (4 of those being FDR's consecutive landslides)
1 time for Teddy Roosevelt as a Progressive/Bull Moose

It wasn't until 1992 that California has gone straight blue.

That is what happens when California evolves for the best. The dark side didn't work, so now we see with
the lights turned on. No electoral power... but on the right track.
