karnal: Growing up in the early 70s, it was Chuck Acri out of the Quad Cities in Illinois.

We had Chuck Acri in Cedar Rapids too. Our local creature feature (no host, but a really creepy close up of an eye with a heartbeat in the backgroud) came on at 1030 and then Acri was on at 12 or 1230. Loved Acri cuz he always seemed more than a little tipsy doing the show.

That sucks - I hope he gets better.

I just discovered him this year, and at first he annoyed me because his show was on while Elvira's new movie show seemed to run for only a month around here. Svengoolie seemed a poor substitue.

But he's grown on me - and the dumb goofy movies he plays are right up my alley.

Need I say more!

KNIF! Cool it with the boom-booms!

45cal: Sir Graves Ghastly on channel 2five out of Detroit was awesome along with the ghoul on channel 20. But if I remember correctly the ghoul was out of cleveland.

The Ghoul was on channel 61 in Cleveland originally (copying Ghoulardi), then left and was in Detroit for a while then came back to Cleveland. I don't know what he's doing now. Probably has a website ...

Amen to this.

No local TV station carries it, nor does Comcast, but my Mom has it on FiOS out of Philly, and seeing
Svengoolie once has made me a huge fan.

Let me add to the chorus of "Get Well Soon"s

Svengoolie was a significant part of my TV-watching childhood. Glad he didn't die!

I always thought the ladies were singing "Thaaaank yooou, for all your stars and letters!"

He also used to be a magician. My mom used to work in a pet store, about 30 years ago. He came in one day, sans makeup/costume. Mom sold him some doves for his act.

The problem is that there are no local DC stations carrying MeTV (I've checked on their website for my ZIP code),
even aside from Comcast being a bunch of evil pricks.

Tricky Chicken: Craptastic: exparrot: Greatest Chicago Local TV hosts:
Svengoolie/Son of Svengoolie
BJ & Dirty Dragon
Ray Rayner
Frazier Thomas (actually, I hated him as a kid...)

That sounds like something you'd find over at urbandictionary.com.

/not looking it up, just in case.

None of my current friends or co-workers have ever heard of Gigglesnort Hotel. I never dropped acid, but when it is described to me, I figure that show was a good enough analog.

I remember that show! I especially remember Dirty Dragon and his drag queen "girlfriend."

You know that all four cities are not in IL, right?

Not true.... Rock Island and Moline
