That sound you heard was Romney getting run over by a Ram dually with a lift kit and fog horns.

Good for them. Voting day should be a national holiday.

The news isn't that Chrysler employees have the day off for election day. The news is so many Americans do not.

Dusk-You-n-Me: t.

You either get your line-ups less than a couple of hours across the entire State or make it a holiday. Canadian law requires employees to have 3 hours off to vote and no poll in Canada takes more than an hour to vote in.

2012-11-06 12:23:02 PM
The opposite of voter intimidation.

2012-11-06 12:24:11 PM
he should have made it clear the reason he is giving the day off is due to Rmoney lie. Not that he is asking the employees to vote for anyone in particular.

2012-11-06 12:24:53 PM
I heard Koch Bros. is not only giving their employees the day off to vote but also giving them rides to their polling places and help filling out their ballots. Suck on that Chrysler.

Cool. Too bad it wasn't a paid day off or else they might get called for paying for votes.

I'm in. Move Veterans Day to the Monday prior to Election Day, give a four-day weekend to everyone. shiat-can stupid Columbus day.

Because they can't give days off to people that don't work for them?

And yeah, why isn't voting day a holiday. Or why don't they have polling places at work?

I think the LAST place you want a polling place is at work. Especially if you work for someone like the Koch Bros or Wal-Mart.

I agree with getting rid of Columbus' day. Why do we have elections on Tuesday? Why not move it to a Monday or a Friday?

Because in our Representative Democracy, in which we repeatedly say voting is so important, it's not a National Holiday.

Imagine how much quicker this would be over if the public didn't have to work today (or more than 4 hours, in the case of Emergency Services, or fuel stations, et al.)

seriously, lets make sat-sun-mon-election tues the 'voting days' with tuesday being a national holiday to celebrate our voting.

I think the only people who will come out against it are those afraid of voter turnout. usually the derpiest of the derp.

The same people who claim that only the unemployed and welfare cases vote DNC are against a holiday for voting. Something doesn't make sense here.

We have vote-by-mail in Oregon. It's only fair that we get two weeks off.

2012-11-06 12:48:24 PM
If you made election day a holiday, it would actually reduce turn-out because people would make other plans altogether. Get your poll lines up to under 2 hours and make it law that people need 3 hours off from work (if necessary) while pulls are open. If polls close at 7PM and you work until 5PM, you get to leave at 4PM as an example. If the polls close at 8PM, you leave at your scheduled time.

As was noted in the comments there, the union has it in their contract to have election days off. Have since 1999.

But I do enjoy believing that the workers will actually take the time to vote, rather than just playing the day long drinking game.
