This is why I always vote by mail - unless I see a black man on the way to the Post Office, then I go home and lie down for a couple of days before I try again.

2012-11-06 09:38:51 AM
What the hell. Not that long ago, these guys forced black men to do those jobs.

2012-11-06 09:39:12 AM
OK, I know nothing good ever comes from starting a sentence I'm not racist but...
If that was a white guy wearing the same exact thing, I'd feel a little bit intimidated. OK, I'd feel more intimidated actually, since the white guys that dress like that are militia idiots.

2012-11-06 09:40:10 AM
Is it the same guy that was a registered poll watcher in 2008? Cause it'd be funny if it was.

The little nitwit with the billy club isn't with him this time, though.

There were people in Arizona carrying guns and standing outside polling places a couple elections ago. People actually reported being intimidated as compared to 2008 in Philly when not one person complained other than Fox News and a college republican with a camera that wasn't voting.

I'd like to suggest that it's time to retire the Simpsons jpg that starts with "Fox News: Not Racist"

I think that has been definitely disproven now. It should read:

Cognitive dissonance can be quite unsettling. Remember when O'Reilly freaked out because having dinner in Harlem wasn't like being in bad rap video? Too many people have organized their lives to where they interact with as few people different than them as possible. As a result, they end up having some really weird ideas of how everyone not part of their tribe lives.

Doesn't PA allow open carry at polling locations? That guy could be standing outside with a handgun and conservatives should be applauding his support of the second amendment.

2012-11-06 09:42:58 AM
But having white people "challenge" voters for looking "unamerican" is a position of those of Fox News and the right.

Only if he was white. A black man with a weapon would be potential mugger/rapist.

Conservatives love the second amendment as much as they hate the 13th.

Oh man, I forgot about that. didn't he basically say he was surprised that being surrounded by black people didn't result in him being mugged or offered drugs or something?

That's nothing.....this morning at my polling place a group of four Hari Krishnas, in their saffron robes and flaunting shaved heads, were chanting "Mitt Romney Mitt Romney - Romney Romney Mitt Mitt - Mitt God Mitt God - God God Mitt Mitt."

It was a message that seemed to resonate with everyone there.

This isn't intimidation, however loitering directly outside the door of a polling place isn't a reasonable behavior for anyone who is not actively assisting in the election in an official capacity. If they want to watch and be sure nothing strange is happening, fine, but do it from a bit farther away.

"They say they are merely monitoring the election process but some say it looks like intimidation, like in 2008."

2 things just that sentence. Fox' ever-present "some people are saying" BS and "2008 intimidation". "Some say"" = We Say. And no charges were filed on the dumbasses in 2008 because they left when they were asked to.

But this stunt is just mind-boggling stupid. Fox & Friends was playing the 2008 clip as recently as July 2012. Why the FARK would you open yourself up to ANOTHER 4+ years of criticism? Just go the fark home and let the professionals handle the election process, asshole.

What constitutes "patrolling"? Is it anything like the annoying Republican volunteer I saw this morning loudly trying to pick a fight with the Democratic volunteer over the presence of non-partisan poll watchers from the Virginia State Bar? Because he bothered me a lot more than a couple of dudes loitering and minding their own business.

These were two volunteers handing out sample ballots. The Republican was whining about "liberal Democrat lawyers." The Democratic volunteer explained that the VSB had lawyers there to insure that the laws were being applied correctly by the polling staff. The Republican wasn't having any of it. Sorry that you choose to disbelieve it.

I will give the Republicans credit on their sample ballot because they actually bothered to include the five ballot measures, which the Democrats did not.

IF YOU LIVE NEAR THIS EVENT:

I beg of you, do one of three things- rush out and buy some helium balloons, make a 'Free Hugs' sign, or grab a puppy from your local shelter and bring it down to this guy. Fox will have a camera on him all day- what would be hilarious is if he's handing out balloons, hugs, and kitty pets to voters coming and going, as a demonstration of how intimidating he is.

I wish I lived near there. I'm about as pasty white as it gets. I'd love to be live on Fox News as I walked up to the guy, asked him if this is where we vote and then walk right in.

There was a black guy between me and my wife in line this morning. OMG INTIMIDATION!

/Seemed like a nice guy, was pushing the water fountain lever and entertaining my 18-month-old daughter. We both remarked that this was the biggest turnout we'd seen at that polling place. Line was out the door.

2012-11-06 10:27:53 AM
It's interesting that everyone is having such a hard time with voting. When I voted, the only inconvenience was that the line took about 30 minutes to get through. There were a few people with signs at the polling place, including one candidate's wife (I voted for her husband) and some firefighters holding the American flag (we had a ballot measure on unifying the volunteer and professional firefighters under one fire chief), but it was very congenial.

Having the courage to walk past a person makes one an ITG now? Holy shiat! I must have walked past dozens of people this morning. Some of them were even black! I must have the biggest set of brass balls in the world!

2012-11-06 10:30:56 AM
And I found it particularly moving today at my polling place how diverse (racially and economically) the polling place was. There was a disinterested black teenager directing people which line to get in. A big white guy directing me to the right booth. A black Muslim woman in a head scarf with the voter rolls and a farking Sesame Street rainbow of people in line. Everyone was pleasant and polite. Holding doors and helping the elderly find seats if they needed to rest.

I actually had a little moment where I choked up upon leaving. It must be exhausting to live in such constant fear.

Then you're just a candy ass.

And candy asses should STFU and leave the voting to the ITGs, amirite? USA! USA!

Having the courage to walk past a person makes one an ITG now? Holy shiat! I must have walked past dozens of people this morning. Some of them were even black! I must have the biggest set of brass balls in the world!

A black kid rang me up at Target a few days ago and I didn't piss myself.

You could hear my gigantic brass balls clanging together from England.

He didn't "walk past a person", he got on Fark and told somebody that they shouldn't vote if they would feel uncomfortable having -someone in paramilitary uniform patrolling the polling place. Suck it.

Oh damn, you're right. He said "American serviceman" and not someone in paramilitary uniform, I confused my Farkers. I guess that makes the "internet" part of ITG disappear and it might also make me a racist. Also whoever was said to be a candy ass is definitely a candy ass now, in real life away from the internets. And he shouldn't vote.

It's one thing to look at a black guy in an overcoat in 40 degree weather and think "paramilitary uniform." It's another to look at a black guy in an overcoat and see five of them---that's just plain hysteria.

I have it on good authority that those white students working for that GOP-related vote-watcher organization in 2008 spoke directly to white folks that drove up in their car to that particular polling place, saw black people at the door, asked the defenders of liberty what was going on, and after being told basically "we don't know, but we called the cops", the white folks in their car, that live in the area since that was their polling location and would have had lots of experience going places where black people were, felt so intimidated that they drove away. Who KNOWS if they ever cast their ballots that year!!!!

Well, that does it...Obama Presidency 2.0 is illegitimate.

Yes, it's bullshiat, and yes it should be covered. But the outrage over this is laughable in the face what Republicans have been up to.

Remove the timber from your eyes "conservatives," then worry about these motes.

I just got back from voting in my lily white polling place and a black guy and I were walking in at the same time, he held the door open for me and I took a chance (it's a famously Republican district) and said I "Careful, that's a really good way to end up on Fox News, did you see that garbage?" He said "I don't watch that garbage but I saw it online." I said "me too." We had a good laugh and wished one another luck.
