Jim_Callahan: There's a lot to be said about staying that close to the source material, as someone that liked the books I'm really enjoying it.

What's your opinion of the 4th book? For me, the first three were like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The fourth was like the Silmarillion. I can't see them turning the 4th book into a season without chopping out a lot of the boring parts.

/no spoilers for the 5th please, just started it

Cythraul: NeoCortex42: Cythraul: It's really hard to play favorites on this show. Even the blonde haired Targaryon girl, who was starting to get a bit stale, started to get her mojo back by the end of the second season.

Her storyline was the biggest waste of time for most of the season. They just really didn't have much for her to do.

Too bad we didn't get to see the visions in the tower from the book. Although I guess that would have been difficult to show in the series while still being vague enough to not give things away.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'visions in the tower' since I have not read the books. But she does go to the warlock tower.

She goes to the warlock tower to get her dragons back, and there she sees a vision of the throne room with the roof all melted away and snow falling in through the now opened ceiling. I"m assuming this is foreshadowing that she might raise her dragons, and assault the capital city (which I can't remember the name of). Is this one of those visions that you're thinking of?

If not, I guess I don't want to know exactly what you mean. I'd rather not read the books and keep season 3 unspoiled.

SPOILER SPOILER OF FUTURE PREDICTION THEORY

The "snow" is Jon Snow, the true heir, as he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. The dragon has 3 heads. Ned Stark's promise to his dying sister. She died in childbirth.(bed of blood) No way in hell that Jon is Ned's son. Jon Snow will be on the Iron Throne in the end.

The 4th book seems to plod along because:

1) There's a shiat ton of wholesale carnage in the 3rd book which dials the crazy up to about 11.
2) The 4th book acts as a reset to begin building the tension back up after all the craziness in the 3rd book.
3) The 4th book has a ton (and I mean a TON) of new characters.
4) Three of the "main" characters of the first three books are nowhere to be seen in book 4.

The 5th book is much better, overall (which I won't discuss).

For the show, they're going to need to smoosh the 4th and 5th books together and then cut that into two halves. There's no way they're going to be able to do a season with no Tyrion and no Daenerys.

I liked first season better than second. Too much talking in second and too little action. Reminds me of the direction Sopranos took. And starting to be too many storylines. Also, too much unnecessary nudity/ sex like the guy telling some story while the two chicks are going at it. If I want to watch sex, I heard there is some on the internet. Still, not much better out there so I'll keep watching.

I have my own competing theory. While it's a lock and load that Lyanna is Jon's mom, I'm not so sure about Rhaegar. I think Lyanna was enough of a free-spirit that she definitely would have made out with Robert before deciding that he could never be faithful to one woman. So she might have run off while pregnant. Just keep thinking about Jon's black hair.

It also makes more sense if he hooks up with Dany at the end -- she'll represent the Targaryens and Jon will represent both the Baratheon line and the Starks. (Another three heads if you will).

I don't think they don't like boobs. I think their point is the boobs are not a necessary part of the story and seem to be randomly tossed in, either for pure titillation (heheh...) or to attract the short attention span, sex/violence crowd.

Now, while I see and appreciate that point, I happen to disagree. I don't feel like the boobs distract from the over all story. Do I feel like they might be gratuitous? Maybe, but it's HBO...they aren't remaking Citizen Kane.

This is a channel that brings you sexy vampires, sexy gladiators, sexy Agent Mulder and Real Sex. A little T&A sells, as everyone knows, and if tossing some lesbians behind Littlefinger while he talks attracts a few more viewers so they can keep making the show, well I for one am willing to make the sacrifice of watching hot chicks make out.

Now, my view might be different if I thought the show wasn't brilliant in its own right. If it was a crappy show and the T&A was the only redeeming quality, then yeah, maybe I could see being disappointed. But I'd probably stop watching if that we're the case. As it is, I don't mind what some consider gratuitous T&A in an otherwise great show.

Saved, there's way to much foreshadowing about him to just die off AND the whole "man turned into a wolf and back again" vision Melisandre sees. On top of Melisandre being a red preist who can bring people back and the whole prologue being devoted to wargs living through their animals when they die.

There's plenty of farking in the books and I read them. The nudity in the show is gratuitous and superfluous to the overall plot. They're cutting enough as it is, I don't need to see Stannis farking Melisandre. That just muddles their relationship.

Jumped the shark, from what? Hiring this guy to play a 'cameo?' I doubt it. But if you liked the first season, you should definitely watch the second.

Hrmm...did they at least cool it with the bewbs? I like 'em as much as the next (straight) guy, but, goodness, it was pretty excessive in some of the episodes.

/sexposition

This is one of my few complaints, the near constant need to show nudity by the director(s). I've even heard there were scenes of gratuitous nudity in the television series that weren't even written in the book. I don't think it's been toned down much in the second season, but the writing, acting, and direction are so well done, it becomes a minor issue that I can overlook.

Yes, the scene with Littlefinger talking about his past while two lesbians going at it in the background was completely egregious and over the top. An occasional situational nudity or some reason behind it is fine, but I was worried that the writers/directors were looking for filler material.

THIS.

I tried to get my GF into the show, unfortunately she sat down for 5 minutes with me as this episode premiered. She gave me a look of 'what the fark' and walked out. Took her friends to convince her that it wasn't straight softcore.  Bad timing.

Yeah, I hated Hamlet too.

The Game of Thrones books are horribly overrated. The structure is a mess, and he needs an editor badly. The Mary Sue characters are extremely annoying in spite of the really good characters in the mix. Good fantasy fiction? Sure, but great? No.

GRRM's books work way better as a TV show with b00bies.

Probably trolling, but if you're going to go there. . . it's not that the characters are good or bad. It's that the bulletproof characters mainly avoid dying by being excruciatingly passive. In A Song of Ice and Fire, a significant victory in the name of progress isn't much more than foreshadowing that yet another busybody is about to die horribly.

It's not that I don't like boobies, it's that there's so much plot to cram in to each episode that I don't like losing out on plot so that more tits can be shown. If I want to look at tits, I can look at, oh, I don't know ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET, but where else can I see an adaptation of Martin's books, except on the farking TV show? Pictures/videos of naked women are plentiful compared to REALLY GOOD fantasy television, so naturally I want more good television instead of more soft core gratuitous nudity when I'm trying to watch GOT. I would much rather have had time to see Arya's weasel soup antics (which got cut, and that part of the story rearranged) then more whore tits.

Yes, you heard that right. I would rather watch a prepubescent girl and a dwarf with all their clothes on than naked women......when I'm watching GOT, anyway.
