That's hilarious. Was even funnier the first 50 times I saw it. Now, go look up the amount of federal aid given to red states vs. blue. Let me know if you need help with the big words.

Hehe, I figured I'd get some crap for that. I see it as somewhat acceptable, since I'm questioning the premise of the statement "Giuliani was on CNN". In my mind, the idea that someone thought "you know who could give us some real insight into this election? Rudy! He'll have a lot of constructive commentary, and will really be a valuable resource." Thus, I'm questioning the reality of the premise, as I refuse to believe that actually occurred.

Also, I like saying that phrase.

I"ve lost FB friends, not spoken to relatives, and have seen far too much derp on my TV.
I've been lurking here since just before the 2008 election, and I've been here pretty much every night until 3:00AM since the GOP primaries. You've kept me sane. I finally decided to join but it took a while because of the verbal beatdown I feared I might get, but now I think I can take it. I just wanted to say that I was here, when the walls fell. Nadie_AZ: Cyberluddite: I'm glad this election's over now, because I really don't want to hear about it any more, man. And Romney's gonna win--to beleive Nate Silver's load of crap, you'd have to be a moron, I think. Yeah, Fartbama looked like he was gonna win in the early days of the campaine, but in the latter days, ain't no way he can keep that lead after his bad debate performence and Bengazi. Heres one statistical: Taxbama hasn't helped unemployment--multiple wive's, husband's, and grandparent's have lost their jobs just in the past year alone--for every one Chinese guy who got a job, an average American--a John Doe or Joe Smith--has lost his. Young college grads are having an especialy tough time, and so while Obama was able to bring in first time voters last time, this year it's Mitt whose gonna bring 'em, young and old alike. So I think Nate Silver (and guys like him) is talking out of his hat when when he gets up there and blows his golden trumpet and talks about how Fartbongo has a 90percent chance of winning. This isn't "science," its just some kinda magic--under where and what real statisticals can these results be supported? You gotta be smoking pot or taking payote or dropping LDS or something to think Obama's gonna win Ohio or Florida. I'm sure the Democrat Party bigwigs are ready to celabrate tonite, acting like they're golden, plates of lobster and bottle's of champane and all that, but their gonna be crying tomorrow when MITT ROMNEY is crowned president of the U.S. of A.!

You hear that Republicans?! This ex-republican undecided voter just voted straight ticket Democrat for the first time ever, and I didn't like it.

But I had to. The right needs to hear that their blatant obstructionist partisanship won't stand.

This morning's conversation with an "undecided coworker".

"You vote yet?"
"No. I just hate them both so much."
"Yeah, It's been tough to deal with this election season for sure."
"I mean, if you can't get gas prices down, why should I vote for you?"
"Well, .. gas prices are down. Nationwide."
"Oh yeah, how convenient."
"It is because of the giant storm that knocked out the North East. They aren't buying gas at the moment which is driving down national demand. Has nothing to do with the president, it was just a point of order."
"Well, if he cared so much about jobs why'd he pass that health care bill?"

-_-

I just turned around and got to work at that point.

What your coworker was thinking: Nailed it.

You know, this is the first time -- hopefully the ONLY time -- my family and I have had so very much personally riding on a presidential election. How scary is the world and how polarized are we when a fairly typical, middle-class family quite literally is about to have their future determined by a presidential election? It makes me wonder if in my fog of TV and Project Runway and middle-class entitlement what I've missed over the years that was as critical to other families in other elections? It also makes me wonder how it is that something so high-level makes such a difference on this, the lowest level?

DamnYankees: jasimo: I was just thinking....

Seeing all these pictures of long lines at polling places, and considering the open way in which some states -- I'm looking at YOU FL and OH -- have openly worked to make voting more difficult, I'm thinking that it may well have the opposite of its intended vote-squashing effect.

If I lived in a state where I knew the ruling party was actively working to discourage voting by causing long lines and constricting early voting, I would wait in line as long as needed to vote, regardless of how long it took.

Not only might it backfire in that way, but they're certainly alienating the vast majority of the country -- including just about everyone here -- who thinks that voting should be easy and EVERY vote should count.

Is there a rule about what happens if you're in line to vote when the polls close? Do they let you vote or do they shut you out?

I think all states allow everyone in line at closing time to vote. Damn sure SHOULD be the case at any rate.

In my mind, the idea that someone thought "you know who could give us some real insight into this election? Rudy! He'll have a lot of constructive commentary, and will really be a valuable resource." Thus, I'm questioning the reality of the premise, as I refuse to believe that actually occurred.

killershark: Car_Ramrod: Giuliani just said on CNN that Benghazi is the most important issue in this election.

Which begs the question: WHY THE FARK IS GIULIANI STILL ALLOWED ON TV?

He was on MSNBC earlier saying FEMA's lack of response to Sandy was the most important issue. And yes, he brought up 9/11. Apparently, he did much better making sure FEMA responded properly to the attacks that affected Lower Manhattan than Obama has done with Sandy affected several states. Oh, and Obama's response to Sandy was worse than Bush's response to Katrina. Oh, and Staten Island feels a bit like New York's red-headed stepchild but Giuliani always made sure the borough knew he loved them when he was mayor. Apparently, Giuliani has learned quite a bit about flip flopping and lying from Romney this year.

I remember when Giuliani was still mayor, appearing on SNL, and people were like, "Run for President? Why not?"

imontheinternet: skullkrusher: imontheinternet: Doing the right thing is pulling your head out of the sand, looking at the differences between the candidates, which are real and easy to find, and then making a decision based on which candidate shares your views. Waiving off the candidates by saying, "they're all the same and corrupt anyway" is a cop-out. Full stop.

You want to know the "cop-out"? It is everyone who equates "both sides are undesirable" or "I don't match up well with either party" with "both sides are the exactly the same". Far too many use that to waive off valid concerns about "your" candidate. LOL objectively false! It's bullshiat. We're not saying they're "the same" except in how we find them both undesirable.

Every candidate is not equally bad. Pretending that they are is an objectively false cop-out. If you think there should be some perfect candidate who is tailor-made to match your views exactly, you're living in Magic Fairyland.

The Irresponsible Captain: Frankly, I'd be shocked if this is wrong. Oh, I'm not saying it's impossible for Romney to win. It's possible. It's just highly improbable.

Currently the Intrade Odds are: Obama-72.0 Romney-29.6
Frankly, that shows a lot of confidence.

In my mind, the big question is does Obama carry Virginia and therefore the result is called early, or does Virginia remain a toss-up until the last minute. Perhaps it even turns out solid Romney. Either of the last two scenario will make it a long night waiting for results, and I thoroughly expect a long night coming.

This isn't like 2008 where Obama has it wrapped up in a pretty ribbon, he's fighting for the vote this year.

The chance of a quick, decisive call that would signal the end of the race, like Virginia for Obama, are virtually zero. Even if all the data is there three seconds after the polls close, the networks aren't going to throw away an entire night's worth of high ratings on a quick call.

I believe the networks have agreed to sit on the exit polling numbers until 5pm ET, due to accuracy concerns since they farked it up in 2004 and had people thinking Kerry was going to win. Any exit poll figures you hear before then should be taken with a big grain of salt.

Anyone who takes Gary Johnson seriously after his fake debate with an Obama impersonator should be mocked relentlessly.

On Thursday night, the sometimes-shirtless Stossel and his pal, Mustache, invited Brown and former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson onto their tv show to participate in a pretend debate. It was all such good, clean fun! Ha. But as this clip from Media Matters for America shows, Johnson seems to have taken the whole thing far too seriously-even knocking his head on his podium a few times to indicate frustration with the Fauxbama:

I'm glad this election's over now, because I really don't want to hear about it any more, man. I'm sure the Democrat Party bigwigs are ready to celabrate tonite, acting like they're golden, plates of lobster and bottle's of champane and all that, but their gonna be crying tomorrow when MITT ROMNEY is crowned president of the U.S. of A.!

Yes, "progressive" policies. Like being able to label people as "security threats" and detain them indefinitely. Until you have tens of millions of people voting for Johnson, all you're doing is helping Romney get elected.

Deal. Again, if Obama wants my vote, he can do the stuff to get it. No more NDAA crap, legalize weed (I don't even smoke it). Two easy things right there that could sway my vote. But, nope.

You do understand that the NDAA was attached to the defense spending bill and was passed with a VETO PROOF MAJORITY, right? In other words, had he not signed the bill, your buddies in the military would have not gotten paid, and after a delay where Obama would have been savaged for not caring about the troops the thing would have become law anyway. You get that right?

And do you also get that Obama is not the king? He cannot just waive his hand and make pot legal.

Good grief.

So... people not getting paid is worth trading freedom for... right? Right? And I don't care if he could have been overridden. Sometimes you have to lose, even if you're doing what's right.

He has the authority to sign executive orders stopping quite a bit of the DEA's activities. Hell, to start off with, Holder let MJ dispensers run. Then... again... back to prohibition.

No, dinglefutz. Vetoing the defense spending bill would have accomplished NOTHING other than to delay it's inevitable passage. It would have been a completely empty gesture that would have made him look good for a few idealists like you and made him look bad to everyone else. You do have to consider these kinds of things when you are the president.

Maybe you want a president that makes empty gestures. I want one that's smart enough to know when to pick his battles.

Hey man, I don't consider "No, you can't just label people terrorists and detain them indefinitely" an "empty gesture". Quite a few people don't. But hey, again, if you're willing to throw due process under the bus for political expediency, go ahead.

However, if you're not a big fan of the two party system, and are in a state that's being screwed over by the electoral college shenanigans - it makes sense to vote for Jill Stein, Gary Johnson, etc. If a third party can get 5% of the popular vote, they get federal matching funds next election. At least your vote for president counts towards something, instead of being converted into 0.0000000 electoral votes and discarded.

Nullify his vote? You mean vote for theofascism and Bush advisers and Bush-era policies.

C'mon, stop f*cking around.

Read in to it what you want. In the end, his vote was nullified. Big mouth got his ass handed to him- metaphorically of course.

Happy voting to the rest of the Fark community. Props to the people out there who kept it clean regardless of your political affiliation.

Um, yeah, that only works if you are in the same state. Glad he motivated uneducated folks to vote. That's what we need (see 2001 - 2009).

There are probably MORE than two candidates on your Presidential ballot, plus of host of other races, judicial retention or ballot questions. You did research your ballot and all the candidates before today, right ? Don't make me go Red Forman on you.

Funny. At that point I think I would have turned to murder-suicide.

You're typical American, basically.

Also, Murder Suicide would reflect poorly on my end of year performance review.

You popped your Presidential cherry with Dubya? I'm so sorry. My first Presidential vote was Clinton in 96.

I'm also a Presidential hipster, as I voted for Harry Browne in 2000 (Bought into the "no difference between Bush and Gore" argument. Oops). I was into the Libertarian party before it became all mainstream.

No, no, no. If we put Obama and a duck on a scale, if Obama weighs the same as the duck, he becomes President again.

Again, i would like to dedicate this song to Candidate Rmoney and his entire campaign for the work they have done this year:

Embrace the silence
'Cause there's nothing
That can change the way I feel
Taken all that you wanted
Now there's nothing
That can change the way I feel

Hold on, little girl
The end is soon to come

Sick of it all
Sick of it all
We will not follow
Sick of it all
Sick of it all
They don't understand how
Sick we are
Sick we are
Of this bottomless
Pit of lies
Behind closed eyes

Oceans between us
And there's nothing
That can change the way I feel
I can still taste the poison
Of every thought,
Every breath I wasted here.

Hold on, little girl
The end is soon to come

Sick of it all
Sick of it all
We will not follow
Sick of it all
Sick of it all
They don't understand how
Sick we are
Sick we are
Of this bottomless
Pit of lies
Behind closed eyes

Someday you'll know the pain
Someday the light will break through
And nothing you tell yourself
Will save us from the truth

Screaming out!
Sick of it all
Sick of it all
We will not follow
Sick of it all
Sick of it all
They don't understand how
Sick we are
Sick we are
Of this bottomless
Pit of lies
Behind closed eyes
