Just voted.

Apparently there's this thing going around on Facebook now saying if you select the "All Democrats" button before voting for Obama, the Obama vote gets tossed, but if you do it afterward, it's counted.

I don't know what neck of the woods this originated in...but I feel I'm not breaking any laws by saying there was no such button. At all. AT ALL. AT. ALL.

That cannot possibly have actually happened.

Tell me that's some kind of elaborate Photoshop, please.

TsukasaK: HighOnCraic: How could anyone vote for a candidate who's willing to do something so silly to get attention?

Eh, of all the things to hold against him, I won't count silly things when there are far more substantive issues to knock him on.

I guess it stuck with me since it happened early in primary season, when Johnson was trying to win as a Republican.

His "convenient" decision to run as a Libertarian after getting nowhere in the GOP primaries is another thing about him that amuses me.

Anarchangel: Hey look, a voting machine turning an Obama vote into a Romney vote. Confirmed by NBC News.

But yeah, your vote totally means something.

Oh, FFS. It was a poorly calibrated touchscreen. It didn't change the vote. It wasn't like Obama was actually selected on screen, and then the machine flipped it to Romney. They tapped Obama, and it selected Romney. If they had tapped the button for Jill Stein, Obama would have been selected.

So, yes it should be taken out of service, but let's not attribute to malice that which can be adequately be explained by a poll worker messing up the settings. Hell, I'm amazed the damn things work at all, given the average technical expertise on display at most polling places.

DamnYankees: doyner: DamnYankees: This is an interesting link: Link

Basically, it shows the breakdown of every VA county and what % of the vote Obama would need in each one in order to take the state. Obviously its an estimate, but you can compare the VA counties as they come in with this spreadsheet to see whether Obama is on target to take the state. And considering VA closes at 7 PM, there shouldn't be too much competition for our attention.

Is that yours? Are you in Virginia too?

Not mine. Got it from someone on Nate's twitter feed.

Now that's interesting. I assume it's based to some degree on 2008's results?

Small ballot this year. One cool KY Constitutional amendment to vote on. Trying to make it a right that hunting and fishing be used for conservation and wildlife management. I dig that even though I don't hunt & haven't fished in years.

Yeah, I was of two minds on that one. Strongly support the basic intent, not 100% on board with the idea of amending the bloody state constitution for it. Gave in and voted yes.

I voted no just because it's stupid. The part about hunting and fishing being "our preferred form of wildlife control" or something to that effect made it sound like we won't have educated people controlling animal populations, which seemed stupid.

/supports hunting and fishing

California has some great props and shiat this year, including outlawing the death penalty and revising our barbaric three-strikes law. Anyone think that if there was good "exit polling" for the GOP that Drudge would have leaked it out by now?

Should the fact that he hasn't leaked any info out signify anything? Or does he just not want to get in "trouble"? I just thought I'd recalled in the past him throwing "rumors" out there mid-day.

He stated that he tried to select Stein in hopes that it would select Obama, but it selected Stein correctly. Unfortunately that wasn't caught on video but that's what the person claims.

Or, if you had read the article.

"I first thought the calibration was off and tried selecting Jill Stein to actually highlight Obama. Nope. Jill Stein was selected just fine."

The problem is that the "hot" area for Romney is way too big and Obama's is just a small sliver.

Both Sides Are The Same has never made sense.

Being edgy is much cooler than being informed.

"Thier both like corporate and Wall Street and the electorate college is a scam anyway."

I don't think it is "edgy" to recognize that the two party system is more about big money than it is the natural result of candidate awesomeness

"Both sides are bad, so I'm not supporting either" is a cop-out, and many people choose it because they think it makes them look edgy and above it all. There are clearly-defined differences between the two candidates on a wide range of issues. The next term could see as many as three appointments to the Supreme Court, FFS. Stow the edgy teenager crap for one day, and do the right thing.

i don't think it makes me look 'edgy' nor young & hip nor cool

i think it makes me look exasperated & frustrated

there are some differences between the two

& there are many similarities

on top of all that, some votes count more than mine & in states like mine (oregon) if i voted red, it wouldn't even matter would it? (honestly asking)

/also, halo 4 came out
