Are you somehow under the impression that Mitt Romney would do either of those things?

Hell no. That's why I didn't vote for him.

You are voting for him.

Okay, I've been told that by voting for Johnson, I was voting for Obama. This was by my conservative family. Now I come on here and you guys are telling me I voted for Romney.

Which one is it?

C'mon, tell me. I'm waiting.

The fact of the matter is that one individual vote is extraordinarily unlikely to decide an outcome. That does not mean the vote is thrown away.

BgJonson79: Why are there no viable third-party candidates? Wouldn't they be more viable if people didn't think they were "wasting their vote" for them?

just me personally, but i'd find them more viable for my vote if they wouldn't just keep putting up republicans to vote for. you aren't a 3rd party when you just take 1 parties leftovers - you're the farm team.

hey, at least they didn't have rosanne barr in the mix - there's always that.

2012-11-06 12:41:30 PM

qorkfiend: I assume they're talking about polling places where people are being forced to present ID despite the injunction against it.

The true "genius" behind these Voter ID laws is making poll workers the final arbiters of who does and doesn't get to vote.

Technically not - but you have to be willing to wait for a few hours while an election attorney gets on site. So they've made it so inconvenient that unless you show up first thing in the AM, it's unlikely you'll get to flex those muscles.

2012-11-06 12:42:06 PM

Ed_Severson: I'll vote for Gary Johnson. Both of the major party candidates can go suck a dick.

I find it VERY telling how many "the two party system sucks" shills ALWAYS list a Republican also-ran as their "third party" alternative.

Rocky Anderson? Jill Stein? Nope. Almost ALWAYS "Gary Johnson, the SAFE third party candidate".

You are just so predictable.

Dear Third Party President Voters,

Replacing the shingles of the roof of a dilapidated and crumbling building every 4-8 years will not suddenly keep the weak foundation from sinking into the mud...

If that analogy doesn't help you see your faults, then look at it this way:

If you think the Republican outcry and childish partisanship tactics of the likes of Boehner and McConnell are bad because a Democrat is in the house, imagine what would happen if NEITHER party won... We would see a monumental 4 years in which both parties come together in a bi-partisan effort to completely render a third party president useless...

You think it's bad when a president is lame duck when one party is the majority and against you, try and imagine what would happen when BOTH parties are working together to stop your president in his tracks.

They have worked very hard to ensure a 2 party system is in their best interest... but it's not impossible to introduce a good third party option, but you have to build that party with a solid foundation... you must elect local, and state government officials, when the third party can show, on a state level, that they are there, and a real threat to the big 2, then you start filling the seats in the house, and fill the seats in the senate... make sure the numbers are even, you can't have 1 or 2 Libertarians, you need 33% to show them they are failing....

2012-11-06 12:42:36 PM

whidbey: BgJonson79: You're joining the rednecks and the racists and the other frankly dregs of society who are voting against progressive policies. Why on earth would you want to be counted amongst them, if you don't share their beliefs?

Doesn't that assume "progressive" policies are always the right ones?

They're the best ideas we have, and they're good ones.

Attempting to move forward 4 years, and then scrambling back 4 years to the kind of political mindset that tanked the economy is NOT a good move. Romney wants to go there again.

Which specific ideas are you referring to, good sir/madam?

Tor_Eckman: Marine1: Hey man, I don't consider "No, you can't just label people terrorists and detain them indefinitely" an "empty gesture". Quite a few people don't. But hey, again, if you're willing to throw due process under the bus for political expediency, go ahead.

Are you really this dense, or are you just deliberately missing the point?

How's that dense? I don't want the President to authorize that. I don't want Congress to do so either, but at least the President could get his two cents in. Instead, nope, we let some dicks in Congress piss all over rights.

Yes, "progressive" policies. Like being able to label people as "security threats" and detain them indefinitely. Getting felt-up by a high-school dropout at the airport before I can get on the plane is another "progressive" policy as well. Maybe we can have third-party candidates arrested for protesting being excluded from debates as well. You know. For "progress".

I'm not even going to debate any of that.

I just want to know where your army is. A few million people saying they're going to vote for Gary Johnson isn't going to cut it.

Perhaps, but it really boils down to money more than anything else. They can't afford to advertise and reach out to voters at the scale necessary without serious money backers, including PACs. I'm willing to bet less than 10% of the population even knows that Johnson and Stein are on pretty much every state ballot before they step into the voting booth.

I believe we should be taxing the upper bracket at a high rate while cutting taxes for the middle class, I believe in keeping the corporate taxes we have now, I believe in having a social safety net for people in need, I believe we need to address climate change and develop green energy.

It's nothing new, and frankly, not radical ideas. We should already be on board with all of that. This isn't the 1950s. I'm a guy, too. You can tell by the neckbeard.

We're in the midst of a golden age of right-wing blogodome comment hilarity. I hope people can stop and truly appreciate the amazing times we live in.

I finally came to terms with the Red State thing this election cycle. Recall that the Left and their collectivized MSM Propaganda Organ rolled that one out in 2000. It was a plot to throw off the age-old Red Scare association of the street fightin' thuggish New Deal Democrat Party with Marxist-Leninist Stalinism. Russert coined it - but it was a done Journ-O-list style new new deal. Every network immediately went with it. The fix was in.

Dems have mostly been Red Diaper babies right out of the womb (if they make it out of the birth canal intact). Russert & Son and the entire Lefty MSM included. Well, they are still a bunch of Reds. Reds for Che. Reds for the Internationale. Reds for... Entitlements!

But during the Presidential Election cycle - it's ours. All ours. Red for Romney/Ryan. Red for Republican. Red for Right and Reason and Responsibility. Red for this Republic for which we Stand. One Nation Under God.

Today, may the streets - of PA plus IA, WI, MI, MN, NH, & OH run Red in Republican votes for Romney/Ryan!

Don't give me the "Hurr, lots of people died so you can vote" line when you tell me I have to vote for either Romney or Obama. That's the line the communist parties fed their populaces. I refuse to believe that the men who died there fought for a "democracy" where people get two (ultimately similar) choices.

Hope he loses.
