My wife's Uncle died on the Flight Deck of the Enterprise during the 1969 fire. He was assigned to the flight deck twin agent unit (think of it like a mini-firetruck). The last time anyone saw him alive was shortly after the fire broke out, he was spotted driving his unit into the area where the planes were burning to try and attack the fire. Then bombs in the area started exploding.

We are going to try and attend the decommissioning ceremonies.

Slaves2Darkness: Langdon Alger: It's a shame that it can't be a floating monument/ tribute to all who served and all she saved.

Meh, useless overpriced piece of junk. Waste of hundreds of billions of dollars I say good riddance the only sad part about this is we built another farking useless overpriced piece of junk that will cost trillions of dollars over it's lifetime to replace this farking money pit.

Remember kids war machines are theft of your tax dollars, every single one of them.

0/10. it's like you're not even trying.

And yet he's 100% right; even Dwight Eisenhower agreed with him:

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Psh. What'd Ike know?

Joking aside, while I agree with the sentiment that it is sad that we as a species need to compete for resources or in the defense of a socio-political agenda, if we don't have the weapons to defend ourselves, our resources will be seized and our own agenda will be subverted and destroyed by those who aren't as enlightened.

The problem isn't that weapons and war exist. The problem is that humans, as a species, need them to.

pag1107: So if they follow their current trend, the next "Big E" will be a 'phib, right?

got2av8: It's a shame they can't reef it. It'd make a great dive spot. With everything on it glowing anyway, you wouldn't even need to carry a light.

That would make the most amazing dive. Maybe even put some F4s or A6s on the deck (cabled down). Divers would pay BIG BUCKS to dive on something so marvelous. Drop it in 160-175' feet of water - it would instantly be in the top 10 dive attractions in the world.
