Nate Silver nailed the 2010 elections, EXCEPT he gave one extra seat to a Republican.

So yeah, you are ONCE AGAIN, so good with your "facts".

Lenny_da_Hog: Summoner101: Cucullen: Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but regardless of what happens with obomney, CO and WA are going to legalize pot tomorrow. Thats gonna get interesting.

And possibly Oregon.

Oregon made the mistake of letting pot-heads write the measure. It's pretty inept. They call for massive administration for testing, quality control, a commission, etc., all within the first 90 days with no funding.

In Oregon they want it to stay illegal. Makes it cheaper and more profitable for the stoners/growers there.

... Nobody was calling a landslide in 2010, except the Republicans. I've been through 3 Presidential elections around here... we talked shiat uphill both ways before you got rickrolled for the first time. So slow your roll... Take your ass whoopin' with a little dignity. ;)

Who predicted that?

Nate Silver on November 1, 2010: Republicans are well-positioned to win control of the House of Representatives in tomorrow's elections, and quite possibly to achieve the largest gain made by either party in a Congressional election since World War II.

So quit your malarkey.

Just want to get an early post in the big thread.

Sadly I have an emergency call in for work tomorrow evening - I won't be back until 9:30 or so. Will be on during the day though.

But I hope by 9:30 we have a clear call in one of the key states - OH or FL - and then I can relax.

Nothing will beat 2008. I spent the election evening in Rockefeller Center celebrating with about 4000 Obama fans, in the cold, and after the celebration, moved onto Times Square, where the party continued for another hour or so. I have a Flickr album of it here. Some of the events, but mostly of the people. I loved how many types of people there were celebrating the whole thing. Note, it was from my shakey old iPhone 2g camera - so yeah, it looks terrible. It still brings a damn smile to my face. My favorite photo was the young man with the skateboard. He was riding up and down in front of Fox News' bandstand, just screaming his lungs out taunting Bill o'Riley and such. Hilarious, and I think it was really cathartic to the previous 8 years of insanity we had.

This year is less fun - being home, taking care of dad after his big surgery... but I'm hopeful. I feel good. I'm healthy and have my degree. Life is looking better and I'm not desperate. Life is better. Which is why Obama deserves another shot.

Novart: I knew it was over when they chose Palin.

I remember the day Palin was announced, there was Britt Hume, Pat Buchanan and a couple of others as word broke, though it was still barely better than rumor. And word broke while they were on the air and Humes response was, and I quote, "That...that...that will not work". And Buchanan looked like he was about to have kittens

This is it. I'm so stoked. You know how liberals always talk about doves crying? Well tonight is a special edition of "When Libs Cry". All the hard work and determination and corporate money that went into the Mitchell "Thaddeus" Romney campaign is finally coming to fruition. And you know what? When all of you stupid libs get jailed for opposing the policies of the president, I won't feel bad for any of you. You had your chance to lower taxes on the wealthiest one percent of all Americans. You had your chance to privatize all public services. You had your chance to replace all food sources with FOX News. It's too late now. Taxbongo is going to get jailed for everything he has done. It's going to be so hilarious. Taxbongo is going to be on World's Wildest Impeachments, and John Bunnell is going to be like, "This liberal spendocrat thinks he can tax this country into financial ruin. But little does he know that change is coming to America." Enjoy the election. I know I will. Hahaha. Stupid libs. Eat it.

2012-11-06 03:18:14 AM

Lt_Ryan: Schroedinger's Glory Hole: Yes, both toward the center. If you think there is a huge difference between Democrats and Republicans, check out the political disparity outside this country. I would prefer an Obama win but am holding out on voting until there is a truly pro-science president that will stop raiding dispensaries and start collecting taxes from religious organizations. You know, Change.

Democrats and Republicans may talk about science but neither side sees it as a priority, mainly because the majority of American's don't either. It doesn't matter what people or parties say, it matters what they do and for government that means funding. Both sides will fund or defund science to whatever degree is needed for their priorities. A Democrat may say they are pro-science but at the end of the day they don't spend the money on it. A Republican may come off anti-science because they will say they don't believe in evolution, but they'll spend money on science because it helps out a business.

How are you going to tax a religious organization? If you taxed them as a corporation any church with even a half decent accountant would show 0 profit and pay no tax. The only thing it would do would be to make donations non tax deductible, but even then some portions would still be considerable charitable and therefore tax deductible.

On the topic of science you can't equivocate republicans and democrats. Democrats are pro-science on numerous areas that goes well beyond the evolution argument. There's stem cell research, pro-choice argument, global warming, funding alternative energy, arguments in the war on drugs...give me a few minutes and I'm sure I could think of more.

And republicans are only pro-science when there is an opportunity to make a fancier killing machine; they don't give a damn when it's something for business, not when there are vast amounts of people to exploit for cheap labor.
