This is not always true. Obama had a rally today and a local deli in the area had to shut down several hours early because it ran out of food. Apparently having having your business on a street corner with several thousand people lined up right next to it has it perks.

Just be grateful that you live in a state where your vote actually matters. I've never lived in a swing state until this election year, and although the barrage of ads is awful, I love the fact that, for the first time in my entire life, I get to help choose the next president. It has never been anything more than a protest vote before now.

I live in California, and while there's basically ins't a Presidential election going on, there sure is an election for ten propositions, the State Assembly, the State Senate, Congress, and mayor. The volume of such varies depending on exactly where you live in the state, and I live in ground farking zero. I think I got about twenty different political flyers in the mail on Saturday, and am averaging about a phone call a day from somebody. The amount of internet banner ads, TV ads, and radio ads is pretty high as well.

You will note that there is basically not a Senate race here, though. I saw a single TV ad for Feinstein; her Republican opponent has never won an election of any sort (she previously ran in a Congressional primary and finished fourth) and in the new "jungle" primary only got 12.5% of the total vote (compared to Feinstein's 49.3%).
