Come on, it would have been easy enough to provide some form of shelter or relief for 20,000 people in Staten Island. Just find an empty sport's stadium somewhere or something...

It was a terrible response. FEMA responded too quickly to this storm!

The President has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA." Ed Gillespie, a senior adviser to Mitt Romney's Presidential campaign, said Governor Romney had no quarrel with President Obama's handling of the situation.

But then again, Romney avoided saying anything about FEMA like the plague. Wonder why.

My bad. Seriously though, I lost all respect for George after that interview. I cant watch his Sunday morning This Week show anymore because of that exact moment.

I_C_Weener: I imagine those on Staten Island agree with him. Doesn't make it so. But I bet they agree.

Despite what some people in here were attempting to claim, Rudy would not have won his first term as mayor without the votes from Staten Island, votes that he got because he supported Staten Islanders attempts to break off from NYC and because it's own separate municipality. They didn't want to be part of NYC while it had a black mayor but dropped those attempts when Rudy became mayor. That race, a rematch between Rudy G and David Dinkins, ended up being close with Staten island making the difference in the election. Had SI not been a part of NYC, Dinkins would have won.

Wait, nevermind the crying child. Where? Where are these adjectives? The harshest word in that article is "terrible", and Rudy is the one who said it.

Yeah, let's put the 20,000 people in a 7,000 capacity BASEBALL stadium for shelter from the storm.

Diogenes: Yes, Rudy. Please tell us about poor handling of emergencies. You should know something about it through your own glaring failures at it. Chief among them, relocating the emergency response command center in the World Trade Center in 1997, even though your director of emergency management recommended that you not put it there because it had been a target in 1993.

Responses I get from Republicans whenever I bring up these 2 instances of Bush's "what, me worry?" attitude during calamity:

9/11: Bush was trying to "project calm." (this was the official, or Rovian statement as to why he sat there). To whom was he projecting calm? 23 grade school kids who had no idea what was going on outside their classroom? If the president had walked out with "excuse me, kids, I need to look after something really important" I think would have made a better impression of presidenting than stony silence for 9 minutes, then learning later of what was going on, and growing up to realize Bush was an incompetent.

Katrina: Not Bush's problem. Not the federal government's problem, except that, okay, it was. But the state didn't fill out the right paperwork, so not Bush's problem. Oh, turns out that paperwork was not even necessary? Federal government by default is the lead responder in an incident of national significance. FEMA is bad, look at the morons running it. Why are you facepalming?

It's bit early to judge. Katrina was more obvious one week in due to the people left in the Superdome. Also, the fact that Bush had a moron in charge of FEMA. I imagine when the subways still don't work in a month, people will blame the Army Corp (and Obama) for being unprepared even though that's obviously New York's responsibility to be prepared for.

Katrina: FEMA takes three days to show up at the Superdome.

Sandy: FEMA trucks arrive at a Red Hook housing project at 1PM the day after the storm has passed. Due to poor communication, some residents had been expecting the arrival at 7:30AM, and had spent the entire morning outside in brisk weather conditions.

I for one was PISSED OFF that Bush just sat in the kindergarten putting all the children at risk of some personal assination attempt on him, right there in the school. It was not out of the realm of possibilities. He just sat therer instead of jumping immediately up and asking for a command center to be set up in one room with SServ guys everywhere around him.LOSER; NIMWIT.What does this have to do with the thread here.Response people, it`s all a game of response. How do you respond??
