The desperate need for a close race has made the coverage pretty sad. Because the electoral college doesn't show a close race, the media insists on only looking at the popular vote. If the EV was close, they'd be going over the math in every state every night. But because the EV is practically a lock for Obama, they can talk about anything but how close the national polls are.

A friend posted this on Facebook; this friend completely agrees with the source. This friend has worked his entire career for the military, driving desks at increasing pay rates. I'm serious, I served with him after my sea tour. He is the very picture of wasteful military spending and pretends to be a tea party patriot.

He thinks that me characterizing this column as an "Onion-worthy stinker" is an example of me trying to defend the left's malfeasance by pointing out Fox's foibles.

No, this is an example of a histrionic opinion piece straight out of corporate marketing.  "Fox is your beacon through all the "mainstream media's" lies about our (now that we like him) hero Mitt Romney!"

If this is an indication of what's to come, DERPCON 1 will be reached in about T minus potato hours. Nuclear butthurt can almost certainly be expected, so be sure to stock up on Preperation H if you, or anyone you know has severe conservative leanings. Wherever possible, take shelter and cover your eyes and ears to protect yourself from the expected category 5 herpicanes and derpquakes along party fault lines. Do not, I repeat do not engage with defeated political adversaries, they're probably experiencing a nauseating time-space jetlag from the GOP reality merging with actual reality, which has a well-known liberal bias. If you detect symptoms like blaming the President for a weather phenomena or accusations that somehow the President travelled through time to steal the election, then please escort him/her to the nearest library. Stay safe, America.

He sounds very concerned!

So this is how they've decided to rationalize Romney's defeat. Makes sense when you think about it. The entire Republican ideology relies on the premise that they are 100% correct about everything while everyone else is 100% incorrect about everything. That being the case, it is impossible for them to lose any debate or election on a level playing field because obviously people will choose the person who is 100% all the time. So when that fails to happen, the only logical explanation is that someone must have cheated, or the media was on their side, or a storm came along at an inopportune time, or whatever other kind of excuse you can pull out of your arse. Because the reason for your candidate's defeat can never, ever be that he or she had the wrong message, or is a complete dick, or promotes policies that a majority of voters reject. No, that simply cannot be, because as we have already established, your candidate is 100% right about everything 100% of the time. There must be some other reason, and someone needs to spread the word about that reason.

And that, in a nut shell, is why Fox News exists in the first place.

Have you ever noticed how much Conservatives absolutely love the exclamation point. Read any "RE: FW: FWD: RE: FW: OMG OBAMA!" email from an old person, or a comment from a "states' rights" advocate on a local news article and see how many exclamation points they shove in there.

Perhaps it has something to do with how their news and commentary is presented: shouted.

To be fair, it was a casual comment. Romney was remarkably casual in writing off 47 percent of the country as moochers with victim complexes. It was possibly the least scripted thing I've heard him say since the campaign began. And he sounded more casual and relaxed than he ever sounded in a campaign speech. Almost as if he were expressing his own actual beliefs, free of any need to appeal to any demographic other than the very, very rich.

Did you actual see the press try to run him into the ground with it, or are you looking for something to blame? Sure, some pundits mocked him for it, but it's not like newspapers wrote a bunch of articles scandalizing it. When mentioned, it was typically as an example of a relatively poor debate performance, or to report people's reactions. The same way they would have noted another "57 states" gaffe on Obama's part as contributing to a debate loss.

Now, bloggers and pundits and such did mock him, but they're not the mainstream press you've convinced yourself is "liberal." Those are opinion pieces that are supposed to be biased in one direction or the other.

On Fox News today they're spending a lot of time running stories about "possible" voter fraud incidents. I guess their plan is to watch their guy lose, and then spend the next few weeks/months moaning about how it was impossible for Obama to win without cheating.

Thus the news cycle is revitalized, ads sell, consumers consume, and the powers-that-be have exactly what they planned for when they selected the face-man/President years ago.

"If you were President Obama, you got the best of coverage and photos of you with halos around your head. Your made-up autobiography and "composite" girlfriend were a blip in the news, your radical positions downplayed and the ongoing failures of your administration - economy, fast and furious, foreign policy in general - were all given short shrift in the major media.
Even your massive failure on Libya where four Americans were killed was somehow "utterly contrived" and CNN's Candy Crowley covered for you during the debates. Every silly thing your PR people thought up from Big Bird to bayonets to binders received journalistic attention.

The major media, on the other hand, turned Mitt Romney into a caricature straight off a Monopoly card. They hollered "Bain" like it was a scene from "Batman," dug into long-forgotten high school pranks and tried to depict him as radical right-wing, a well as bash him for his faith. A casual comment about the "47 percent" became "seismic" or a "disaster." Things like the massive decline in the job participation rate and Obama's $16-trillion nation debt were afterthoughts to news coverage."

Fox already publically sued to be able to present fictional news. They already declared in court that what they present isnt meant to be factual, that they are strictly entertainment - why does anyone care what they say?

2012-11-05 06:33:27 PM

Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo: The desperate need for a close race has made the coverage pretty sad. Because the electoral college doesn't show a close race, the media insists on only looking at the popular vote. If the EV was close, they'd be going over the math in every state every night. But because the EV is practically a lock for Obama, they can talk about anything but how close the national polls are.

That's right, and the next time your candidate leads in the popular vote but is behind in the electoral vote, you'll be whinging about the evils of the electoral college.

The media always covers based on the popular vote, and they don't write off a candidate either.
Remember Dewey? No?

Straw man, party of one?

Much of the domestic media is biased one way or the other. That includes Fox, who (if they wanted to be accurate) could change their name to the Tea Party News Enquirer. That doesn't make it right, nor does it alter the irony that Fox is biatching about media bias when they've spent the last year sucking the balls of their conservative funding base.

"Yeah, it's horrible how the media has influenced the campaign. What's that? Why am I mumbling? Sorry, it must be this teabag in my mouth."

Thanks everyone for supporting the article with your failure to address it in a substantive manner!!!!

BTW, does anyone know if Biden really said that, and what context it was in? I am asking because I don't watch FOX and I NEVER heard about it from anyone else. I would be really curious to know just how much FOX is spinning it. On the flip side, I know for a fact it can't be as bad as the liberal media spin on "Binder full of women", which in context made 100% sense and was not offensive at all. But you damn sure know the liberal media took that one and tried to run Romeny into the ground with it. If they were unbiased they would have not done that, or would have done the same with Biden.

I agree with you (and the author of the "opinion piece") up to a point. 24 hr news, whether it be FOX, CNN, MSNBC, HLN, etc. , no longer exists to provide the news: They exist to tell a narrative, because a narrative sells and keeps ratings up. And they will do what ever they can to keep viewers entertained, and to find stories that play into that narrative.

But lets not pretend that Fox is anywhere near innocent in this. Or that even for an opinion piece, that it was incredibly biased or unwilling to consider that they themselves may be at fault.

/Excellent (correct) use of Ironic tag, BTW.

The "libertarian" dude I work with is on disability and takes a smoke break for 10-15 minutes every hour, which he gets paid for because his boss is in DC, and he doesn't count lunch or smoke breaks towards his hours.
