d23: Kyndig: As a hoosier who spent a LOT of time in Ohio, I totally agree...

Indiana is A LOT worse than Ohio.

They have bought Rmoney's and Lie'n Ryan's schtick completely.

Don't count on a Hoosier to be a deep thinker.

Based on my experience.... THIS.

I'm from Alabama, and the south is obviously worse, but it wears it on its sleeve, Of those places that are supposed to somewhat better than the south, yet are really just in complete and utter denial, Indiana seems to be the worst. Most of the hoosiers I've known are much less belligerent than the out-and-out rednecks, I've known... but they harbor the same basic attitudes.

It's the difference between "Ni**ers are lazy damn thieves" and "You know, black people just can't help themselves. They don't have our work ethic or morals. They just don't see nothing wrong with stealing. I don't got nothing against them, but that's just the truth of it."

Now, I have some terrific hoosier friends who are absolutely wonderful people... But, my experience with Indiana culture has been that it is every bit as filled with racists and catty Bible-thumping "church lady" types and the utterly banal image of America as "John Wayne, cryin' eagles, and Lee Greenwood songs" as any Alabama backwater.

RumsfeldsReplacement: Lots of inbreeding too. Can't forget about the inbreeding.

This. You know how a lot of states will have one school serving a couple different counties where they house the "special" kids? Yeah, where I grew up in Southern Ohio, there were so many inbred mutants that there were actually parallel "special" grades. Like there'd be normal first, second, third, etc. grades, and then tard first, second, third, etc. You could scrape together enough to make an entire grade level out of the chromosomally-challenged. So much inbreeding.

Tiberius Gracchus: it's not really a coincidence it's called Cinci-tucky is it?

Well, seeing as how I have lived in the southwestern Ohio or Northern Kentucky area for 40 years and have NEVER heard that until now, I would have to say no.

We *do* say Hamiltucky for Hamilton, Ohio, but in reality... Northern KY is much more northern than Cincinnati is Southern.

Once you get out of Boone, Kenton, or Campbell counties (The 3 KY Counties closest to Cincy) it goes south fast... both literally and figuratively.

Cincy is just your average mid-sized financial city. There is not much "south" about it.

Given that it has a similar balance of rural/urban population as the entire country, it contains southern and northern elements, mid-south cities (Cinci) rust belt cities (Cleveland), and modernish cities (Columbus)...isn't it pretty unsurprising to see Ohio right on the line and helping decide the election? Seems like a pretty good cross section to me.

I love my home. To the death. I've told my wife if I ever die early to cremate my ass and scatter around NW Ohio.

But, we do some stupid shiat because many of the people in this state are morons. Electing the Kasich crew, for example, was a HUGE mistake and we're paying for it by losing the turnpike now. Once in a while we show some insight.

I suppose my biggest complaint is that I am stuck in the back of nowhere instead of where the action is this election season.

Me too. Compared to Texas (and Louisiana before that), Ohio is not a bad place. Not the smartest kid in school, but definitely not the dumbest.

Bascially this.

Once you leave Columbus heading East on I-70. Technically you're still in Ohio but it's pretty much West Virginia.

Florida is pretty much a coin toss. Obama wins Florida he wins the election.

Florida doesn't matter if Obama wins Ohio.
