Metric sh*t-ton of Eagles fans all around the French Quarter day. One of them next to at a table said, "I can't believe how nice Saints fans are! If this in Philadelphia, anyone in a Saints jersey would be knifed to death."

He's right, too (I've spent a lot of time in Philly). Saints fans are almost ridiculously friendly, even when the universally despised Falcons are in town. That's just because New Orleans itself is arguably the friendliest
damn town in the country.

And now, back despite popular demand...week 9's weird status & stuff:

-Five teams still have perfect records at home. Three (Baltimore, Chicago, Atlanta) lead their divisions. Pittsburgh trails the Ravens in theirs. Seattle is the only team among the 5 to find themselves behind in the standings to a team (San Francisco) which has lost at home.
-Only two teams have yet to win a game at home. Not surprisingly, they are the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kansas City Chiefs.
-There are also only two teams which retain a perfect conference record: Houston and Atlanta.
-The two teams above are often considered when discussing which the "best" team in the league is at this point. The Bears might warrant a spot in the conversation as well, given that they own the best point differential (+116) in the league. Houston is second, at +100.
-This week's "Just how bad is the Jaguars offense?" stat: in terms of yards/game, Jacksonville is 57.6 yards behind the 30th-place team (Cleveland). They are 186.4 yards/game behind league-leaders New England, which represents 73% of the Jags' per-game production.
-After yesterday's action, only one team is still perfect on fourth-down tries: the New York Giants (3 for 3). There is also only one team who has yet to convert on fourth down: the Atlanta Falcons (0 for 1).
-Kansas City has a turnover differential of -20 so far. That's nine worse than Dallas, who hold down 31st place, and a staggering 36 behind league-leaders Chicago.
-Worst in the league in average time of possession? How about the 6-2 Baltimore Ravens, at 26:47?
-New England has outscored every other team in the NFL by at least 3 points/game. They have more than doubled Arizona's and Jacksonville's scoring averages.
-Speaking of completely obliterating the league, Chicago has scored eight defensive touchdowns so far, an average of one per game. No other team has more than five defensive scores, and 28 of the other 31 teams have three or fewer.
-Of the eight teams without any defensive scores, Pittsburgh is the only one with a winning record.
-Green Bay leads the league in touchdown passes, with 26. They are tied for last in rushing scores, with two.
-On the other side of the ball, just how bad is the Saints' defense? They are giving up 56.8 yards/game more than 31st-ranked Buffalo, and over 210 more per game than league leaders Pittsburgh.
-The Jags don't just suck on offense, either: they would have to increase their season sack total by 250% in order to grab a share of the league lead.
-Things are getting back to normal atop the league's passer rating standings: Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers...Matt Ryan? Alex Smith??? Ben Roethlisberger, and Tom Brady are the six with ratings above 100.
-Brady is tied with Robert Griffin III and Kevin Kolb for fewest interceptions thrown among qualifying quarterbacks (14 passes/team game). But Brady has thrown 58 more times than Griffin, and 137 more than Kolb.
-One running back is averaging over 100 yards/game: Adrian Peterson.
-Tampa Bay's Doug Martin had three runs of over 40 yards in Sunday's game. No other running back in the league has more than three all season.
-C.J. Spiller of the Bills is still rocking an insane 7.2 yards/attempt number on the ground, on 78 carries. Even more astonishing, he is second in the league with 7 runs of 20+ yards...9% of his total attempts.
-I think it's safe to say that Washington made the right choice in replacing kicker Billy Cundiff with Kai Forbath: Forbath is 8-8 in field goal tries over his 4 games with the club, compared to Cundiff's 7-12 mark over their first five matches.
-Finally, the San Francisco 49ers are tops in the league, having allowed just 103 points to their opponents in 8 games. That's 10 points more than Tennessee allowed in two games: their 44-41 win against Detroit, and the 51-20 bashing they suffered against Chicago this week. The Titans have now allowed 30 or more points in seven of their nine games.

I want to add my "Sad KC Stat of the Day" (well, besides the one that you already posted, Harv)- The last team to not hold a lead in its first eight games was the 1929 Buffalo Bison, a team which folded after the season was over.

/Tonight? Geaux Saints.

I am SO in on this early!

Vegas says even money, as of 4 PM EST anyhow. My buck is on the Aints tonight. Drew wins at home.

Plus, I can't help but cackle madly as the Iggles continue to implode. I'm hoping for a spectacle this evening.

*checks boxscore*

Attempts 6. Yards 39. TD 0. Longest Gain: 22

Well, you don't want to risk over working your best offensive weapon. I mean, you should probably only have him in 15 plays or so a game. Could you imagine if he carried the ball 20 times a game? Thank goodness Chan Gailey is in charge. What would happen of Ryan Fitzpatrick got his way?

"We've got to get C.J. more touches."

Man. What a terrible idea! I mean, look what happened when he first began to play this season:

364 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2 games. Good grief, you can't expect anyone to keep doing that! Best to rest him more!

2012-11-05 07:43:00 PM
I'm going to say Saints 213--Eagles 210.

The defenses will likely help the ball carriers into the end zones by the 4th quarter so their offenses can get the ball back.

"Can the Aints get it together AND put Michael Vick down like the dog he is?" YES

"Is tonight the night Andy Reid earns himself a permanent vacation?" I'd like to say YES, but probably NO. That can wait until tomorrow.

Over/under on defensive stops today: 2? 3?

Two lousy teams. One QB will throw for a bazillion yards. The other QB will get massacred as his O line stands still wondering where that wind came from that whipped right past them. After tonight, only another eight games left in the Andy Reid/Michael Vick era in Philly.

I love watching Brees v Vick just because everyone thought Vick was the sure thing. Atl basically gave up Tim Dwight, LT and Brees in that draft. I'd say it worked out well for the Chargers, but they sure screwed that up with poor coaching and their hard on for Rivers. Drew is the only one to come out on top there.

2012-11-05 07:53:31 PM
I was in NOLA for the Eagles/Raiders Super Bowl in 81. The town was full of drunken Eagles fans, me included. I didn't have a hotel room, but I did have a big bag of "stimulant". The Eagles had won one of the great games in Veterans Stadium history over the cowbois to get there. I was there, and became determined to go to the Super Bowl. Took the train down, an express full of Eagles fans cheering and drinking all the way. Legend has it, the Birds were uptight and nervous, and Vermeil had them on lockdown, yet we kept running into Raiders players in the bars. Lyle Alzado was holding court in Pat O'Brien's, Dan Pastorini in another place. Come game time, the uptight Eagles went down in flames. I nodded off in my seat at halftime, and woke up with people sweeping under my feet. Ah, good times in a great town.

But I digress.
Anyway, E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!

Even funnier is that the Chargers preferred Rivers over both Brees and Eli Manning. That's three rings right to zero. Not that it's all Phil's fault, but he is a whiny douchebag.

Yeah, Eli didn't want to play there (wonder why that would be...), but they could have told him to sack up. In the end they tucked tail quickly, which tells you all you need to know about the Chargers organization and why they don't win.
