Verrai: In the article, it's Mondale campaign manager predicting an upset victory. Of course he would have.
Boxcutta: Verrai: In the article, it's Mondale campaign manager predicting an upset victory. Of course he would have.Like Subby, I do not like these smoke and mirrors. I would have very much preferred that Mondale's campaign manager came out a few days before the election and said, "You know what, fark it. This thing is in the bag for Reagan."
nicoffeine: Hey, Revenge of the Nerds is playing at the Liberty III!/we've got bush!
pseydtonne: A microwave cost $200 back then: I think I paid $80 for one last year. Too bad we don't have an $800 VCR ad here too.
Arkanaut: Was that the heroin craze back then or the cocaine craze? Or both?
Biness: pseydtonne: A microwave cost $200 back then: I think I paid $80 for one last year. Too bad we don't have an $800 VCR ad here too.you're not thinking fourth dimensionally! WE HAVE TO GO BACK
Diogenes: I was 14. But I did get to vote for Dukakis in the next one.
ArkAngel: Sounds like someone tried giving out toothpaste and granola bars on Halloween and reaped the whirlwind because of it
Oznog: Oh wow the old TV guide...A few locally-affiliated network channels & PBS, then the "nationwide channels" WTBS-Atlanta, ESPN... and oddly enough CBN. Christian Broadcasting Network.I'd forgotten about CBN. That a good chunk of the active spectrum was dedicated to broadcasting megachurch services. I just can't wrap my head around how this could be of use to anyone. Then the small array of "standard" cable channels and then the "premium"- which no way were my parents ever gonna get. All we could do was listen to the Playboy Channel's audio and try to make sense of the scrambled video. However, by the late 80's, chips to lobotomize a cable box leaked out into the market. And you could acquire a box you didn't own under your name from flea markets too. Then we realized Playboy Channel only had lame softcore stuff anyways.
CokeBear: Has there ever been a campaign manager who just said "fark it, we're going to get our asses kicked"?
Cyberluddite: I am old, so I actually got to vote in that election--it was my second presidential election, and I voted against Reagan in each one and was disappointed (but not really surprised) in the outcome both times. In fact, even though this year will be my ninth presidential election (Jesus, I really am old), I've only voted for the winner twice so far. My sad voting record:1980: Voted for: Carter. Winner: Reagan1984: Voted for: Mondale. Winner: Reagan1988: Voted for: Dukakis (ugh). Winner: Bush Sr.1992: Voted for: Clinton. Winner: Clinton.1996: Voted for: Nader. Winner: Clinton.2000: Voted for: Nader. "Winner": Dubya2004: Voted for: Kerry (ugh). Winner: Dubya2008: Voted for: Fartbongo. Winner: Fartbongo.I'm pretty sure this year will be the third year that I end up for the winner.
I May Be Crazy But...: You're voting for Gary Johnson?
Nilatir: What's interesting to me also is the Program Guide for TV that night.Lifetime has a show called "Good Sex!" and the entire evenings lineup for the Playboy channel is published.Imagine the "Think of the Children" hate today "liberal media" would have thrust upon it if this were to happen now.
