(Snopes)   So you've probably heard about how the electrical workers from Alabama were turned away in NJ because they don't belong to a union, right? Well, you may be surprised to find out that the story is complete bullshiat   (snopes.com) divider line 23

What a shameless way to use a terrible disaster to promote the anti-union viewpoint. Talk about sickening and desperate.

AngryPoet: SmackLT: Oh, that story is still making the rounds on Facebook. I just did a search of public posts for the word "unionized" and found several people still posting it for the first time this morning.

None of them on the timeline of any of my friends, thankfully.

I have seen some crazy stuff posted on some of my friends timelines....some I have posted and reasoned with.....others seem to far gone...

That's why I'm glad that my FB friends list is populated almost exclusively by musicians and carnies. They both live in a world unaffected by politics. They have more important shiat to talk about.

Frankly, at least if they were union you would know that they have the training and experience to not kill themselves or you. I can do a lot of residential/commercial stuff, but for insurance purposes you don't want me in your house doing anything. To put it more in terms that people on Fark can understand- what would happen if a PC user tried to work on an Apple computer?

Bendal: My co-worker the Staunch Conservative met me at break with this news, on how non union workers were turned away from NJ. I just smiled and said "I'd like to rebut that when you're done", then told him what I'd heard. He just smirked and said "what liberal source did you get that from?". Just sent him the Snopes link on it; I expect to hear "derp derp derp" any minute now.

And then everybody clapped as you slipped your Guy Fawkes mask over your face, put on your fedora, sheathed your iPad and climbed on top of your Segway to ride to the next cubicle where disinformation is being disseminated.

make me some tea: My mom was harping on this a couple of days ago. This claim didn't make sense to me, so I googled it, and found a bunch of "articles" claiming it to be true, but I did find one actual journalistic article quoting Chris Christie saying that it wasn't true, and that if anything the workers had been reassigned and it was a miscommunication. I sent her the article.

Later she was still saying that it was true that they were turning nonunion workers away. I didn't argue with her, because what's the point?

So yesterday I saw this Snopes article, and sent it to her. No reply, although I've talked to her since about other things, but I doubt she even looked at it. She would rather believe the lies she hears on talk radio than the reality I'm trying to bring her back into. It makes me really sad.

When you send her a Snopes article, she has about the same reaction you would have if she sent you an article from World Net Daily. That's how screwed up they are.

aselene: stoli n coke: aselene: Subby and the posters here have obviously missed the point: this story tells a higher truth. It is illustrative of a larger point, and whether or not it is strictly factual is irrelevant.

Welcome to post-Beckerhead America. People used to be entitled to their own opinions. Now, they're entitled to their own facts.

I refuse to let my opinions be dictated by facts checkers, when almost all of them exhibit strong liberal bias.

On a related note. Seeing the propaganda my senile father gets in the mail clarifies someting. It was in this election cycle that "right to work" expanded from "no minimum wage," "no workplace regulation," and "no unions" to include "make them lazy welfare queens (and their spawn*) scrub toilets if they want to eat."

So it's "MY right to make YOU work (you useless piece of human filth)."

What? Republicans gleefully using something which damages America for their own political gain? Color me shocked!

This is why all Republicans love it when something bad happens to this country. Rush Limbaugh (the apotheosis of Republican thinking) made it most clear when we didn't get to host the Olympics a couple of years ago, and he was happy because it made America look weak.

Also, look at how much Republican semen dribbled down the front of millions of mobility scooters on 9/11. They ate that shiat up! "Finally!" thought every Republican, "We can legally kill brown people!".

Now that things are winding down in the middle east, they are desperately looking for more brown people to legally kill, which is why they are inventing all the outrage over Benghazi.

Saturday night I was told that Obama threw away $2 trillion out of a $762 billion dollar stimulus on failed green energy projects.

I'm guessing the person that said that wasn't the class valedictorian.

No he wasn't but, he IS a successful businessman (got that way by cheating on his wife and marrying an heiress who gave him $250k to start his business) who went out and bought a $90,000 Porsche Saturday morning and then explained to me how high taxes were preventing him from giving his workers a $5 a week raise. Very concerned about Shaniqua and her welfare, but I'll give him this: when I said the white bankers took this country for more than every single welfare mom put together ever, he paused.

Give him a few years for his new wife to leave him, taking, as Eddie Murphy put it, "HALF!" Come to think of it, if she gave him the startup capital, she could get more than that.

That'll bring him back down to humility.

Total BS. Here in W Virginia, where union is king, we had a massive power outage due to a windstorm this summer. There were bucket trucks from all over the country here.

You don't say?

Paramedic/EMT union member, former police union member, son of a life long UAW member who now is steward of a public transit union, grandson of a Grandfather and Grandmother who were both life long UAW members, other grandfather was a welding journeyman union steward, and how many other members of my family in various unions like stone cutters, masons, teachers, and carpenters.

I don't even just find these attacks annoying and unsubstantiated, but downright insulting. The Democrats by and large suck, but at least they aren't actively trying to destroy everything that made this country an economic superpower last century.

/didn't realize just how deep in union culture my family and I were until I listed it just now...
