If you're getting a Hulk to call me, it had better be Bill Bixby or Lou Ferrigno.

James F. Campbell: FirstNationalBastard: /Remember, kids, Objectivism is a sickness.

Yep. This.

/And yet people still love the Objectivism-inspired asshole named Rorschach.

Rorschach wasn't someone to look up to. He was a fascinating character who grew up in bad circumstances and tried to do good. Ultimately what he saw and experienced broke him, turning him from someone the Nite Owl could trust & work with into a violent loner. As a reader, yeah, i loved the character, but not because of who or what he was, but because it was so well written. The little hints and flashbacks they dropped along the way filled out his backstory, and made you understand what made him that way. You had some sympathy for him, even though he wasn't someone to admire.

In the comic, my favorite moment was when he walked into a bar full of tough guys and got the info he wanted - not by beating someone until they cracked, but by torturing one particular person while the rest of the bar watched. The tough guys are so sickened by what they were seeing that they gave him the info to get him to stop. The low-life tough-guys had more empathy then the hero.

mikemoto: This is why the Democrats will NOT take back the House. They are more obsessed with taking out Ryan and Michele Bachmann then actually going after winnable seats.

We should be taking the fight to them in EVERY seat. People vote republican because democrats don't put up good alternatives. That has to change.

A billion jillion Internets to anyone who can make an animated .gif of Hulk smacking Ryan into the floor over and over like a ragdoll.

You didn't see the Biden/Ryan debate thread?

There was an animated GIF with a similar theme, but I'm having trouble finding it at this point.

What does this have anything to do with the DFL and going after seats? Did they spend any money here? The article doesn't say. This is about one guy doing some robo calls. Calm the fark down.

/and Bachmann's district has been winnable in the past and she is in a competitive race this time around as well

a. Bachmann was not defeated in 2006 and 2008 which were very friendly wave years to the Democrats.
b. Her district was made even more Republican, partly by the Democratic governor, as a way to vote sink Republicans in Minnesota
c. While she is in a competitive race, she is still polling above 50%, meaning that you would have to get some of her supporters to switch
d. As for Ryan's seat, he has been ahead by at lesat 8 points in every poll of his race
e. Kathy Hochul in upstate New York is an incumbent Democrat currently locked in a nearly tied race. Wouldn't be a much better idea to send Bill Clinton to her district than to St Cloud, Mn?

This pretty much. It works too. During the last Presidential election the Democrats contested pretty much every race in every state. It's the only way for them to consistently beat the GOP because they don't have quite as rich of a donor base (Not so many billionaires lining up to give the Democrats millions of dollars to win elections, funny that) but they have a much larger ground organization than the GOP could ever hope to have. Hell, even paying the daily rate the GOP can't compete with what the Democrats get for free, which then further goes to drain their billionaire-backed war chest.

It's an effective strategy because it diffuses the effect the big money donors and PACS have on races. A PAC spending 10 million on media buys isn't as effective if they have to spread it over 20 Cities instead of just 5.

Good luck ousting any of these assholes. The districts are gerrymandered to shiat, and at least here in Ohio, the GOP has managed to make it as difficult as possible to fix.

We've got an issue on the ballot that would take redistricting out of the politicians' hands, and into those of a bipartisan appointed panel with specific rules. Since this is Ohio, the Republican-written language on the ballot was completely insane and biased, which lead to a liberal uproar. So did the GOP rewrite the blurb to be more accurate? Nope. They put the legal text of the entire issue on the ballot. Takes like an entire page, and is impossible to decipher unless you already knew what it was talking about.

Best moment in The Avengers, hand down.

/well, giant fists down at any rate.

Yes, that is the best bit, but for me it has equal footing with the bit where Hulk and Thor kill that flying thing and smash into grand central, they stand there for a bit and then Hulk side-punches Thor. That bit actually made me LOL irl. The entire farking theater turned around to look at me at that point.

That's got to be a GOP rally. Pelosi was fantastic, never lost a vote in 4 years, and passed a single-payer bill. Boehner lost a vote in his first 48 hours as Speaker.

And getting back the House really isn't feasible this time around. But the Senate stayed Democratic against all odds.

kronicfeld: Puny objectivist.

Actually, early Amazing Spider-Man comics had an objectivist bent.

See, Steve Ditko, co-creator of Spider-Man, is one of those crazy Ayn Rand followers, and tried to work a lot of Objectivist stuff into the book. Thankfully, Stan Lee's dialog diluted the effect so Spider-Man didn't suck.

However, when Ditko went out on his own, all the rest of his characters were infused with his Randroid notions... The Question, The Creeper, Hawk and Dove, and most notably, Mr. A

Thankfully, Squirrel Girl escaped this horrible fate.

And Ditko... well, he's so crazty, he doesn't accept money for the Spider-Man movies, and uses original art worth thousands of dollars as cutting boards for his vegetables.

/Remember, kids, Objectivism is a sickness.
