Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Alpha Sierra Foxtrot: Oh, bullsh*t. Quantum of Solace started off in Siena, Italy, the best city on the face of the planet. HOW NOW, TMLO?

EVEN IN THE FACE OF THIS DISAGREEMENT, I WILL BESTOW THE APPROPRIATE PROPERS UPON GIANCARLO GIANNINI FOR HIS PORTRAYAL OF MATHIAS, FOR HE GAVE THIS FILM HEART

mark12A: I hated QoS the first time I saw it. On repeated viewings I found myself warming to it. It's got some good fights and the opening chase scene is decent.

One scene that impressed me was when Bond knifed the guy in the apartment and calmly held him down while he bled out. Now that's some professional killing there....

I thought he injected him with some kind of poison?

This should have been the best Bond theme

/For several months I was under the impression that it was the the to GoldenEye.(and I don't think I was alone in that)

I gotta echo your sentiments. I watched QoS a couple times on an international flight, and it was really enjoyable. The whole "monopolizing water" story line actually makes sense when you look at it from a money/power PoV...

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: You and me both, man.

I'm excited too; my wife doesn't get it and I don't blame her after QoS, but it looks like it has the potential to be one of the best in the series.

I think a lot of that potential comes from the cast. That's gotta be one of the strongest casts for a Bond movie.

blueswoman: hello, stranger ;)

Hello right back at ya, mammajamma! :D

loonatic112358: he lives!

No, THEY live.

It says so right in the title. Roddy Piper doesn't lie, man.

I'M A REBEL!

Heh, I'm not a drinking man, so you've got me one-upped there!

The Bond movies always make those look so damn good, though, particularly in Casino Royale.

Fair enough.

That said, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Craig does in the name of crafting his unique interpretation of Bond.

mark12A: Dying to see Skyfall this Friday....

I'll be right there in line with both of you (figuratively I guess, locations and all that). Hope they buy my "really sick today" call at work.

Good to see you again, TMLO, been wonderin' where ya were.

Eh, Brosnan did it in GoldenEye with his tie.

The unfortunate part of Quantum of Solace? It wasted Mathieu Amalric. (And if you haven't seen The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, give it a try sometime. Or A Christmas Tale, which he's great in with Catherine Deneuve.)

I think I know why they didn't start in the USA...

The producers were short on funds, they almost weren't going to be able make the movie. It got bad enough Bond now drinks Heineken. Expect a mess of advertising.

So they opened in markets where advertising was cheaper. They now have the funds to pay for a mess of US advertising which will get really cheap on Tuesday around 8pm. From Wednesday on expect to feel like you're in a swing state where you're being told to vote for James Bond.

2012-11-04 10:12:27 PM
Could also be that they knew which weekend they wanted for the US and didn't want to compete with the pre-Halloween glut of bad horror films here.

wildcardjack: It got bad enough Bond now drinks Heineken.

does that actually happen in this movie?

that's almost as bad as whatever watch he was wearing in the last one... except he isnt known for supporting one brand of watches over another so this is a pretty poor argument.

.... wait, actually after reconsidering it im not sure which beverage a fictional character chooses.

please ignore my previous outrage.

All the UK radio commentators I've caught over the last week are raving about it, and they're normally a tough sell for anything that isn't Dr. No or Goldfinger quality. I think we probably have a winner.

I don't care what you idiots watch, as long as its not Cloud Atlas, and everyone associated with that movie loses metrics tonnes of money, so much that the Wachowskis never get to make anything again, ever.

I saw Cloud Atlas today. Thought it was pretty good, especially Tom Hanks' performance(s).

/But would it be so hard to cast Hugo Weaving as not the bad guy?

Having seen the movie, I have to say, it wasn't as bad as people were saying. It makes sense in the context of the film.

wow.
0/10

your parents have anything that made it out of the incubator?

oh come on, that was at least a 3/10... I used "lieberals" AND "demorats"

No different than being a plant at a right wing rally then eh? Least it's ok when you guys do it.

Although in all fairness, some of us actually enjoy our movie threads without someone derpy enough; and frothing at the mouth enough, to warrant sticking politics in a Bond film discussion. You must be a hit at your Starbucks get-togethers.

Saw it Saturday night. Best Daniel Craig 007 ever. Very beautifully shot. Even 007 skulking around in the dark in Shanghai was gorgeous. Another thing is that it's more British than most 007 movies, a full 1/2 of the movie taking place in the UK. And then there's the spoilers which I wont mention which isn't really mindblowing, but a great continuity sleight-of-hand.

The film must be very stirring and not leaving people shaken.

Argh ! There be spoilers !

I think the biggest fit will be thrown when it is strongly implied that James Bond is actually bisexual.

People complaining about the product placement in recent Bond movies seem to have a bit of amnesia about the series. They've been doing it since the BOOKS.

A lot of industries have been hit in the pockets lately. But look at the bigger picture: they had a script this time.

/the coldest blood runs through my veins, YOU KNOW MY NAME!!

Skyfall is better.

Saw it yesterday morning. The first half is breathtakingly good. The fight at the top of the Shanghai tower block is stunning.

However, the 2nd half gets a bit ridiculous (I can't really explain without giving away plot points) and eveyone seems to be missing a big issue with the ending (again, I can't explain as it gives away too much).

One criticism I can make is that Javier Bardem's character is underused, undersold and underexplained (not sure that is a word!!).

Haliburton Cummings: miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you'll never have my heart"

the lyrics are atrocious... i like her voice etc... but that was a tired ca$h grab.

"hey Adele...can we stick skyfall in there somewhere?"
"ell it's kinda stupid sounding...but ...is that a chequebook?"

they need to get rid of the Duran Duran/Adele etc crap theme songs. the skyfall song is garbage.

I hate this farking song. Singer for our group really wants to do this song, so much she is almost begging.

They never start in the USA - the world premiere is always in London, what with Bond being British and all.

Bubblegum Tate: do they ever do Bond marathons on tv anymore? Those "13 Days of Bond"s used to drop my productivity by about half.

Sky TV bought the UK rights on ITV, and they're been looping the movies pretty much 24-7 for the last month. This will probably stop when Skyfall goes off the cinema rotation and you may be lucky to get Goldfinger for the next three Christmases.

It's not that much of a concern as with every new movie they re-release the entire farking collection on DVD/Bluray/Format-of-the-month again.

every time I see a headline about this, i think there is a new Skyrim add-on or expansion. I keep forgetting it's a movie.

I haven't even played Skyrim in months.
