Whoo-hoo, at least the NASCAR thread got greened, too bad the F1 thread did not, sounds like the F1 race had some real drama that didn't involve Grosjean and Maldonado *causing* any wrecks (although both of them were involved in wrecks), to include Vettel making the podium despite having to start the race from the pits because his car had insufficient fuel remaining in the tank after qualifying (F1 standard is 1 litre remaining, he had 850ml remaining *after* he shut the engine off while still on the track, claiming mechanical difficulties) and Lewis Hamilton charging for the lead then having electrical failure causing him to retire from the race.

Agreed, and it will probably be Yet Another Boring Fuel-Mileage Race (fark you France family and Bruton Smith).

My program guide has it starting at 3PM

Helpful time-change reminder -> "Spring forward" is what you do in March. "Fall back" is what you do during the first 150 laps at Talladega.

I totally agree that the cookie cutter tracks produce boring racing for long stretches of time.  But I don't mind a fuel mileage race.  It adds a dimension of strategy beyond "go fast, turn left."

Thank you, tkat! I thought for a while someone had sabotaged the Idol so that the software said "IF 48 Wins button = OFF THEN 48 WINS". Might not hurt to de-bug that section of the Idol's software, or maybe hardwire that part of the code.

F1 has those shiatty Tilke-dromes, NASCAR has Bruton Smith's 1.5 mile cookie-cutters that ensure boring fuel-mileage races. And both have "leaders" that need to go.

That it was, and for once Grosjean and Maldonado *didn't* start the wackiness. And Kimi sounded like he *really* wanted to tell his race engineer "STFU and just let me race!".

When you look @ the colorful history of the early tracks in NASCAR like Bristol, Darlington, Martinsville-hell, Talladega you wonder wtf is up with all these latter-day cookie cutters? A lot of oldschool racefans won't buy anything with Techron since Chevron used corporate raider tactics to take over & destroy Ontario Motor Speedway on the cheap, which was an exact replica of Indianapolis-& while I enjoy hitting the Ontario Mills & Big Box stores that take up its former footprint I know that exact replica of Michigan 2 miles East of there doesn't blow away the Fark Racing League (and yes, Riverside is now another shopping mall, too) I do admire Fontana's striving to make the track versatile(NIMBY lawsuits shut down their awesome 4th Of July Fireworks Show under noise requirements even though the track lies between the truck-heavy I-10 & a Santa Fe railyard) & a one-off music festival featuring KISS & Eminem Link

And go Brad!

Ha ha, sucks to be the 29 team today. As part of the pre-show they had a parachutist come in with the Texas flag. He came in on pit road instead of the infield grass and the sandbag that keeps the flag open in flight hit the driver side of Harvick's car. The crew is in the garage repairing the damage.

So... I should root for Harvick because he was sand-bagging? :)

Can't watch today. Moving into a new place. I'll check the thread once in a while. You farkers crack me up when the races are boring.

I vote Randy Bernard replace the France family.

Yup! Between the Stop Liking What I Don't Like Guy and our funny man in good form, it will make the last third of the race more exciting.

I'll have to do a switch with PIT @ NYG later but I'll try not to cross the streams on posting.

First time ever that a car had to go back to the garage from pit road pre-race to fix damage not race-involved.

I'm watching the F1 race while waiting for NASCAR to start. I have to say, this season has been one of the funniest F1 tours in a long time. Hell, this season of motorsports in general has been nuts.

Of course, with the way things are going around here, I'm doubtful we'll even get a thread for the US GP next week. Heh.

But instead of orange juice, I'd like 5-hour energy.

And instead of champagne, I'd like whatever Kid Rock is on.
