KarmicDisaster: You can get "fired" from the Navy?

You can get "fired" from your position. While you may not get kicked out, you'll (probably) never have another command again, and it effectively ruins your carrer. You'll probably end up with a desk job in some dark corner of a ship or building. Unless you are a high enough rank, then you are allowed to retire, and come back as a civilian at double the pay.

To elaborate on MythDragon's comment, the Navy has an "up or out" policy. Officers have to be promoted more or less on schedule or they are forced to retire. If you foul up so badly you can't be promoted again, the clock is ticking. Even if you like your new career counting igloos in Nome it won't last.

"The Navy Times reported it was the fleet's first mass firing stemming from a liberty port visit since March 2011."

The U.S. Navy:

1. Extreme fundamentalist/crazy Christianity
2. Severe alcoholism

Sleep soundly, citizen.

As long as they hit the right target and don't sink the boats, I'm cool with it.

/not really, but not much we can do to change probably the mentality of the entire 200whatever years the Navy's been around.
