When I was a kid in Illinois, on my paper route, coyotes would run alongside my bicycle before dawn trying to play. They're everywhere at night, and most residents have no idea.

I've found vinyl discs to be an excellent mid-range weapon.

The size may be exaggerated, but I don't doubt the behavior.

I've known at least two people who had their leashed dogs attacked by coyotes while out for walks. Not little hors d'oeuvre dogs either - one was an 80lb lab.

I've also seen a pair of coyotes stalk one of my neighbors while he walked his dogs down the street. I had to go warn him as they were crisscrossing the road from cover to cover, trailing him by about 20 yards and he had no idea.

Then I've also had to run off a 'yote I spotted watching my son (who was a toddler at the time) while he played on his swingset. That one didn't seem particularly eager to leave either, he'd run just a little ways then check to see if I was still watching.

Coyotes just aren't as scared of people as they used to be or ought to be. We've spent too long quietly watching them and even feeding them, instead of doing our damndest to remind them that we're the apex predators and not to be farked with.

I keep these in my kitchen rifle just for reminding coyotes and javelina about their place in my world:

They just have a large primer charge. They move around 500 fps and are all but silent.

I was gonna say, coyote are kinda small comparatively, but in the northeast they seem to have bred with the gray wolf. perhaps this is also true in the upper midwest.

Yep, noticed this too. Wasn't quite sure what they were breeding with though.

And they seem to little fear of humans any more either. Don't know if that's a conditioned thing or due to the cross breeding. Either way, the ones spotted around here in the past year or two have been bigger, smarter, and definitely more brazen than in the past.

I think they may be pushing the local fox population down a bit,
abd have done a number on the local varmints. Thankfully, not much in the way of missing pets yet.

Wouldn't the coyote be doing everyone a favor by ridding the world of a chihuahua?

My local paper is touting their online offerings and getting thinner every day.

Does being 3 pounds and quivering count as having dying technology? Sure those attributes will help the chihuahua die, but as they are inborn traits I don't think they count as tech.

Wait, so the dog Chihuahua is 12 years old, diabetic, and almost entirely blind? At that point wouldn't it be more humane to just let the coyote have a meal and let the circle of life continue?

This is why I keep a .22-250 in the cab of my truck. I've killed more then one dog killing coyote for the neighbors
