"Verily and forsooth," replied Goodgulf darkly. "In the past year strange and fearful wonders have I seen. Fields sown with barley reap crabgrass and fungus, and even small gardens reject their artichoke hearts. There has been a hot day in December and a full moon. Calendars are made with a month of Sundays and a blue-ribbon Holstein bore alive two insurance salesmen. The earth splits and the entrails of a goat were found tied in square knots. The face of the sun blackens and the skies have rained down soggy potato chips."

"But what do all these things mean?" gasped Frito.

Romney: Pledges U.S. will become independent of energy sources outside of North America by 2020, through more aggressive exploitation of domestic oil, gas, coal and other resources and quick approval of the Keystone XL pipeline

That would be a neat trick, seeing how the Keystone XL pipeline's sole purpose is to export oil out of the country tax-free.

Well, subby, Romney has either infinitely many, or zero, positions on issues, but will probably do something. Obama, on the other hand, has a finite number of position on an issue, but will probably not accomplish anything with it.

So... why waste column inches on something that doesn't matter?

Er, it's mostly to import oil from Canada to the gulf refining/shipping operations, and it is taxed (through corporate taxes, though tariffs are admittedly limited iirc). Canada, conveniently, is still in north America.

So... you appear to have it backwards. Of course, there's nothing stopping the refineries from exporting it from there. Speculation-based pricing has caused some weird movements of crude, we actually export our domestic oil and import most of the oil we use because accounting tricks cause us to profit on both transactions. Silly, but I guess effective.

That's mostly true - but for Romney's plan to work, we would have to nationalize domestic production, like Mexico - and that's not going to happen here.

Um... where exactly did you read that the XL pipeline was for pumping oil out of the US? Because, while I can respect opposing the project, as there are certainly legitimate economic and environmental arguments against it (which I disagree with, but, y'know, America, if we agreed on things we'd be Canada or something instead), opposing it because you haven't bothered to understand the basic purpose of the project is... pretty goddamned stupid. I'd say "retarded", but I feel that would be an insulting underestimation of the intellectual capacity of the nations fine Trisomy 21 sufferers, most of whom are entirely capable of telling the difference between something flowing in and something flowing out, and reading basic project summaries.

jso2897: That's mostly true - but for Romney's plan to work, we would have to nationalize domestic production, like Mexico - and that's not going to happen here.

See? This guy appears to disagree with me over whether the project is worthwhile, but is content to hold his own opinion of the facts (as valid as mine) without bringing his own imaginary facts from his ass into it. We disagree, but he's still cool. America, fark yeah, and so on.

Obama: Failed in pledge to cut the deficit "we inherited" by half by the end of his first term.

ArcadianRefugee: That sounds like "cut in half" to me. But I am not a money guy; if I am understanding wrongly, please explain.

Only if the following happen... which has a zero percent chance of happening.

* A host of significant provisions of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 (Public Law 111-312) are set to expire, including provisions that extended reductions in tax rates and expansions of tax credits and deductions originally enacted in 2001, 2003, or 2009. (Provisions designed to limit the reach of the alternative minimum tax, or AMT, expired on December 31, 2011.)
* Sharp reductions in Medicare's payment rates for physicians' services are scheduled to take effect.
* Automatic enforcement procedures established by the Budget Control Act of 2011 (P.L. 112-25) to restrain discretionary and mandatory spending are set to go into effect.
* Extensions of emergency unemployment benefits and a reduction of 2 percentage points in the payroll tax for Social Security are scheduled to expire.

The majority of these items will be extended.

Relevant bits:

However, the outlook for the budget deficit, federal debt, and the economy are especially uncertain now because substantial changes to tax and spending policies are scheduled to take effect in January 2013. Therefore, CBO has also prepared projections under an alternative fiscal scenario, which embodies the assumption that many policies that have recently been in effect will be continued.

The alternative projection puts 2013 at something like 900 bn - 1 tn instead, because it's unlikely that the automatic austerity measures from the old supercommitee bit will actually be allowed to take effect:

Automatic enforcement procedures established by the Budget Control Act of 2011 (P.L. 112-25) to restrain discretionary and mandatory spending are set to go into effect.

You'll recall in the debates that even Obama was pretty much dismissive of the possibility that the automatic cuts would actually be allowed to happen. Congress will either just outright invalidate them or come up with a technically valid compromise budget to satisfy the conditions, because for all they are politicians they're also human beings that would rather have some hope of keeping their jobs.

That help?

//I could be wrong, but I kinda doubt it.

Independent studies showed it was meant only for export. A bill was introduced into the senate to not allow the oil from the pipeline to be exported unless the president allowed it, it was voted down. Senators have publicly said the oil was only to be used for export. The pipeline was to end in Port Arthur, Texas, which i a foreign trade zone which allows tax free foreign transactions. Remember the terrorist group admitting it? Remember all the crap blasted all over FN saying how he knew it was a terrorist group? So when they admit it on facebook that they were responsible, its true. But when they deny it the next day, nothing. They said "We are saluting our people for this zeal in protecting their religion, to grant victory to the prophet. The response has to be firm." A video was also released by the group saying "We commend the Libyan Muslim people in Benghazi against the attack on the Prophet." Why on earth would they be referencing protecting their religion and granting victory to their prophet? Was there some sort of attack on their prophet that was recently discovered? I'm at a complete loss over what the motivation could be that would reference an attack on their prophet. Do you have any ideas?

You have successfully ignored every fact posted. When the "VIDEO" was clearly NOT anything but window dressing, why did the State Dept lie repeatedly? Clinton. Obama. The timeline clearly shows what happened, as reported. Apparently the only people unaware was the State Dept and Obama. Emails and cables confirm this....readily available on google should you choose to look. The bigger question besides the media's indifference is why Obama bothered to lie. All he had to say was "We're working on it". Instead he had that dipshiat Rice lie to every talk show she could find. Bizarre.

Why on earth would they be referencing protecting their religion and granting victory to their prophet? Was there some sort of attack on their prophet that was recently discovered? I'm at a complete loss over what the motivation could be that would reference an attack on their prophet. Do you have any ideas?

You have successfully ignored every fact posted. When the "VIDEO" was clearly NOT anything but window dressing, why did the State Dept lie repeatedly? Clinton. Obama. The timeline clearly shows what happened, as reported. Apparently the only people unaware was the State Dept and Obama. Emails ...

Clearly? So Benghazi was the only embassy or consulate to see protests? It was originally thought to be a terrorist attack and was addressed as such. Then terrorists who were responsible said it wasn't them, and said they were happy at the response to the video. Am i missing something in the timeline that is being reported?

DaintySavage: Pardon? ^^ I believe your undeserved sense of accomplishment is showing.
