People had plenty of time to prepare... plenty of time to either get out, or stock up. So I don't feel bad in the slightest for those that felt they would be "okay" with 3 days worth of food and water.

Or the logic of the people that say they are driving 2 or 3 hours to fill up their SUV... umm wouldn't you be damn near empty again upon returning home?

If people get this batshiat crazy after just a few days -- it's going to be a warzone if this country ever suffers some sort of massive failure (attack/economic/biological/otherwise)

Food/Water/Ammo are all you really need.

I feel bad for these folks, but if only there were something they could have done before the storm...

/you know, because it was on the TV for 10 days prior to hitting the coast.

When domestic livestock get spooked, they stampede aimlessly.
And this is what NYC's urban poodles do when they're just without power for a couple days...after being warned for a week.
Imagine what they'd be like in a real disaster.
Anyone who lives in small communities near major cities needs to know how to blow the bridges, should that need arise.

pretty smug down there in texas. most of us did stock up for a few days. the tri-state has never seen anything like this and it's cold. go sit in your house with 30-40 degree temp. lemme know how many days you go with that before going out to look for gas for your generator. they aren't driving 2, 3, 4 hours to get to the stations - that's how long the lines are.

and yes, this is a massive "failure" ie. biological disaster. it will indeed be a war zone mad max style the next time something like this happens in the country because there is no preparing for this.

i probably shouldn't say it but we have plenty of gas in danbury and no lines. these fools stick to the 95 corridor instead. a lot of these folks are going south then east to get to greenwich/stam/norwalk when they could simply go east and a little north to hit danbury.

poot_rootbeer: Kocsis, who lives on 88th Street and First Avenue said there was no gas at the stations he stopped at in the Bronx early Friday morning.

Asshole, you live in an area that's had power the whole time, and where public transit was restored by Thursday if not Wednesday. What the fark you need gasoline so badly for?

Gabor Kocsis

He's got a Hungarian name, and for the lulz, Kocsis means has a car.

/Derived from kocsi [ˈko.tʃi] ~ coach / cart / car
/BTW the English word couch comes from the Hungarian kocsi for realz

TIKIMAN87: They have too.

That idiot Bloomberg used all the fuel for generators for the marathon. He is worthless.

But at least you can't you big sodas though...

Have you been drinking gasoline?

Is the plastic used in coolers good for gas, especially gas with ethanol? Some plastic will start to dissolve...

I am getting a kick out of the people runnin out of gas while waiting in line to get gas. You might could maybe shut off the engine instead of sitting there burning gas for an hour or two. Also wondering how many people are driving fuel inefficient enough vehicles to almost burn as much getting to and from the distant station as they were allowed to buy.

Is it illegal to fill up unapproved containers with gas in Connecticut? Here in Massachusetts we have signs saying not to but I don't think they are legally effective.
