Jesus, subby, you scared the crap out of me. I live less than a mile from Shingle Creek. Fortunately, the wrong one. The one near me is the headwaters of the Everglades, so not to minimize the mess up there, but it would have be ecologically horrific if it had been mine.

Cooking dinner so I DNRTFA. Just came here to tell subby that I chuckled at tfh.

Up on Shingle Creek, it's quite ghastly
The pipe sprung a leak, it's flowing fastly,
Don't take a whiff, it's quite nasty
A sue-er's dream if I ever did see one

"Please avoid swallowing river water."

I think this is advice we can all heed in our daily lives.

Nice. That song was the first thing to pop in my head. Then something about being up Shingle Creek without a paddle...

If it's treated, is it still sewage?

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: If it's treated, is it still sewage?

If it's treated, it's marketed as Eau de Poo.

If it's treated, the result is a fertilizer called milorganite. Milorganite is made from poop up in Canada. We buy Canadian poop for our gardens. My veggies taste like... Shingle Creek.

I haven't had S.O.S. since I was a kid. It was a dietary staple right after my parents split up when money was tight.

+1 for the headline.

It's a beautiful thing when a subby can connect the dots like that. Nice job!

That is a lot of SOS.

To the tune of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

The creek was the pride of the Virginia roadside
coming down from some lake west of Norfolk.
As the big sewers go, it was bigger than most
with a breadth and thick walls like a silo,
concluding the pump of a septic tank truck
the flow left fully loaded for Hampton.
And later that night when the steel pipe rang,
could it be the big dump they'd been flushin'?

Subby, and journalists everywhere, waited thousands of years for the right confluence of events to use that headline.

When I get off of this toilet
You know where I want to go
Straight down the Mississippi river
To the store for colon blow

To Lake Charles Louisiana
Little Bessie, girl that I once knew
She told me just to come on by
If I ever needed to poo

Up on shingle Creek, I dumped
then I took a leak, in clumps
I don't have to wipe, as she scrubs me
A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one

always hated that song....band...fanbase..

Look, don't drink it, don't bathe in it, but just be careful if you want to do other activities in the water. Suffolk folk won't be any worse off anyway.

Clicked on the article because, I too live near a Shingle Creek in another part of the country. Sad to hear about it but, the saying 'better you than me' comes to mind.
