jehovahs witness protection: I had my chance to get "revenge" on a carload of people who were standed. (car had Obama stickers anlong with quite a few anti-everything stickers. They were in the middle of nowhere and had at least a 10 mile walk.
Instead of taking revenge, I gave all 5 of them a ride and called a tow truck to get their car somewhere to be fixed.
They were all very surprised I was a conservative and talked about how they had heard and believed all of :us people" were full of hate and only cared about hurting "their kind".

Learning about both sides before making blind decisions based on what MSNBC says is a much wiser way to live.
When they offered me money for helping, I said no thanks. Give to relief efforts instead...even if Obama said not to.

/yes, after not being able to work for more than a year because of my stroke and a bout with cancer, I'm broke. But right now there are others who are more in need of help.

That was an amazing, not made up at all, story.

I used to think the encounters that I read about on Fark were fictitious, and then this happened to me.

I was an associate professor at a small, midwestern college. The day that I was denied tenure, the campus republicans were preparing for a 'diversity bake sale'.

Just as I was packing my things to leave, they were preparing the items in several toaster ovens in a single dorm room, and, somehow, a fire started. Thinking quickly, and without regard for my own safety, I battled back the fire and rescued three of the youths.

The three that I rescued were incredulous. None of them had taken any of my courses, but they knew my reputation for being environmentally conscious, my sensitivity to gender and race equality, and my long hair, so they gathered that I was a liberal. They told me "we've always been told by our parents and other, older, leadership figures with conservative credentials that all liberals are completely selfish, evil cretins who would be gleeful if we died in a fire! Thank you, Cal, for showing us the error of our ways!"

When they rejoined their peers, they were shocked to discover that they were shunned and disbelieved.

I guess I can only make converts a few at a time.

Ryan said of Obama. "Mitt Romney and I are asking you to vote out of love of country. That's what we do in this country. We don't believe in revenge. We believe in change and hope."

Haven't the Republicans been ridiculing the slogan "hope and change" for the last 5 years?

So steal that slogan and reverse the order and it is the new Republican slogan?

HeartBurnKid: FTFA: "No, no, no, Don't boo. Vote," Obama told the crowd. "Voting is the best revenge."

So... am I the only one who doesn't see a problem with this statement?

Nope. Anyone who isn't already looking for a reason to hate the President would think "yeah, that's pretty standard campaign rhetoric." But the GOP have become the party of permanent outrage, so anything Obama says, they have to find a way to spin it negatively. If Obama says "Hello," the GOP will start shrieking because it starts with "hell."

No, he shouldn't have said that. Neither side should encourage voting for any reason other than a calm, well-reasoned choice between the platforms and candidates. Two wrongs do not make a right, and there are many better ways to deal with your opposition.

/Damnit, Obama, you're supposed to be better than this.

Wait, an Obama supporter is pretending to be offended by this? Sad. Oh, wait. I remember you. You're the crazy lady who thinks she has magic powers. Carry on.

I'm thankful that she's so open about it, even including it in her user name. It immediately establishes that you don't need to pay any attention to her opinion.

Wow, you actually helped some people who have different political views than you do?

Truly, you went over and beyond! You exhibit minimum human decency!

Oh, but, wait, wait, you brought it up in a Fark thread to score political points. Never mind.

Today's democratic party is now slightly to the right of Ronald Reagan policy wise.

Understand the following facts....

Those on the left have only been fighting back (rhetorically) for the past decade or so, after 40 years of conservative demagoguery...
conservatives just aren't used to liberal backbone.

I suggest you get used to...they finally found their balls (Thank God too, the nation really CAN'T stand single party rule)

just commenting. IMHO the average Fox viewer are senior citizens who are used to having five channels to choose from, and watch the news at least twice a day. back in the 60s there was actually some real news being broadcast. sadly it appears there is very little TV news worth viewing these days regardless of dial selection.

First of all, I love Love LOVE how you say that it's MSNBC and not Fox that cause voters to make blind decisions.

Secondly, Obama fully funded the Violence Against Women Act and there's video from 2008 of Romney chastising a woman who chose to have an abortion rather than, you know, die. And then walked away when she asked 'What about my responsibility to my other three children?'

Also, credit card reform.
And Cash For Clunkers.
And repealing DADT and endorsing gay marriage.
And successfully managing the BP oil spill, which was supposed to be his Katrina.
And Obamacare, which was supposed to be his Waterloo.
And Hurricane Sandy, which was ALSO supposed to be his Katrina.

So yeah, I'm actually pretty informed. How about I take a side-by-side civics quiz against your average Fox viewer...

That's all nice and such...except...

This point about Obama saying not to donate is a blatant lie. As is and has been movement conservatism for the past 4 or 5 decades.

Don't get me wrong, I help people too, expecting nothing in return, it's how I was raised, and it's the right thing to do.
But using a completely bullshiat point to show us what an enlightened, compassionate, conservative dude you are kinda ruins that whole aura

Your political philosophy may be rational in your mind, but the party you alleged you support bears absolutely no resemblance to that philosophy.
In fact, they are more like a gigantic family of grifters.

Yes, he knows. He was talking specifically to people in the audience who booed when Romney's lie about Chrysler was mentioned. The right wing media didn't tell you that because they know you are all dumbshiat easily brainwashed low information idiots who soak up everything they say without critical thought.

Romney is content at this point to let his media surrogates (who are legion) do his dirty work for him while he pretends he didn't run an intellectually bankrupt Lie-a-palooza campaign from the get go.

I'll agree about the "message of change" part though, seems every time Romney opens his damn mouth to give us his message he changes his position on something.
