Governor Romney is out campaigning on a positive message of change while the president is talking about revenge."

Romney is content at this point to let his media surrogates (who are legion) do his dirty work for him while he pretends he didn't run an intellectually bankrupt Lie-a-palooza campaign from the get go.

I'll agree about the "message of change" part though, seems every time Romney opens his damn mouth to give us his message he changes his position on something.

I had my chance to get "revenge" on a carload of people who were standed. (car had Obama stickers anlong with quite a few anti-everything stickers. They were in the middle of nowhere and had at least a 10 mile walk.
Instead of taking revenge, I gave all 5 of them a ride and called a tow truck to get their car somewhere to be fixed.
They were all very surprised I was a conservative and talked about how they had heard and believed all of :us people" were full of hate and only cared about hurting "their kind".

Learning about both sides before making blind decisions based on what MSNBC says is a much wiser way to live.
When they offered me money for helping, I said no thanks. Give to relief efforts instead...even if Obama said not to.

/yes, after not being able to work for more than a year because of my stroke and a bout with cancer, I'm broke. But right now there are others who are more in need of help.

First of all, I love Love LOVE how you say that it's MSNBC and not Fox that cause voters to make blind decisions.

Secondly, Obama fully funded the Violence Against Women Act and there's video from 2008 of Romney chastising a woman who chose to have an abortion rather than, you know, die. And then walked away when she asked 'What about my responsibility to my other three children?'

Also, credit card reform.
And Cash For Clunkers.
And repealing DADT and endorsing gay marriage.
And successfully managing the BP oil spill, which was supposed to be his Katrina.
And Obamacare, which was supposed to be his Waterloo.
And Hurricane Sandy, which was ALSO supposed to be his Katrina.

So yeah, I'm actually pretty informed. How about I take a side-by-side civics quiz against your average Fox viewer...

Last week on his show (or maybe it was the week before, I can't remember) Chris Hayes made a really good point about how all the "combativeness" in political discourse nowadays is actually a sign that our system of democracy is healthy at some basic level. That is, the heated rhetoric of our politics can actually function positively as a safety valve against physical violence, which is precisely what democratic systems are supposed to prevent. I think he was talking about this in the context of "independent" and "undecided" voters who whine about how vicious politics can be.

Anyway, I tend to agree with him, and I think it's applicable here. Vengeance is the sort of ugly motive that democratic systems are designed to mollify by channeling them into non-violent actions. It's not an abuse of the system if people use it to vent their anger. That's exactly what it's there for.

I ain't too happy with the Big 0 either, but the Neocons who invaded Clinton's second term and totally ran both of GWB's terms are once again jockeying for position in Romney's campaign. These are the same farkers who have driven us to war needlessly, turning the middle east into a bubbling cauldron of who the fark knows.... demanded tax cuts but never bothered to offset them with spending cuts, created the laissez faire deregulated economic conditions that blew a 2+ trillion dollar hole in the American economy, and then blamed it all on the black guy (successfully too in many corners of America) when their run was over.

When it's this close, a vote for 3rd party is a vote for the wishy washy flip flopper being handled by Neocons.

And I've had enough of the Chickenhawk PNAC Neocons to last several lifetimes.

2012-11-03 06:14:09 PM
The impotent rage that Romney will feel, as he must fully emotionally grasp the fact that he finally found something all the money in the world can't buy him is revenge enough.

Entitled, born with a solid platinum spoon in his mouth piece of garbage that wasn't happy being just rich, but he had to spend his life putting Americans out of work and sending their jobs to India and China.

He is subhuman garbage and a fundamentalist cultist to boot.

And lastly, why wouldn't a rich spoiled piece of shiat like him just buy a suburban, so the dog wouldn't have to ride on the roof? What does a suburban cost.. 1% of the monthly stock dividends he was born with?

I hope his worldview is crushed so bad when he loses that he kills himself and makes the world a better place.

though TFA is aimed at Obama, I think the bolded part is more applicable to the Republicans... and why Romney will lose. No one is voting for Romney, they are voting against Obama; that position will only get Romney but so far. (see: John Kerry in 2004) If anything, if it's not something you should base your vote on, it's definitely not something you should frame your campaign strategy around as you'll likely just end up with a base that is louder than it is numerous.

You almost have to give them kudos, though. It's extraordinarily difficult to spin "offense" out of absolutely nothing. Usually there's a small baseline they work with and then spin out hyperbolicly. There's nothing here at all.

Ryan said of Obama. "Mitt Romney and I are asking you to vote out of love of country. That's what we do in this country. We don't believe in revenge. We believe in change and hope."

Haven't the Republicans been ridiculing the slogan "hope and change" for the last 5 years?

HeartBurnKid: FTFA: "No, no, no, Don't boo. Vote," Obama told the crowd. "Voting is the best revenge."

So... am I the only one who doesn't see a problem with this statement?

Yes. What Obama should have said, what he meant to say and therefore did say even though he didn't say it, was "No, no, no, Don't boo. Crawl in through their windows and kill them in their sleep. Killing your political enemies in their sleep is the best revenge." Good God! How could Obama say such a thing? He truly is history's greatest monster.

IMHO the average Fox viewer are senior citizens who are used to having five channels to choose from, and watch the news at least twice a day. back in the 60s there was actually some real news being broadcast. sadly it appears there is very little TV news worth viewing these days regardless of dial selection.

I don't even mind it in the literal sense that the Republicans are trying to spin it as (did that sentence make sense?). Barack Obama has had four constant years of bullshiat, racism, obstruction, tantrums, intentional sabotage of the economy, and lie after lie after lie aimed at him. Victory on Tuesday will be revenge, indeed. Well deserved. It would be far, far sweeter revenge if we could hand him the House as well, but I don't honestly think there are enough informed people (too many infromed ones) to do that. Giving him four years without re-election concerns and a Senate majority should be enough to tailspin the far right directly into the ground, and who knows -- in four years there might just be someone sane who could come up as a Republican nominee. Then we'd see a REAL interesting show.

I used to think the encounters that I read about on Fark were fictitious, and then this happened to me.

I was an associate professor at a small, midwestern college. The day that I was denied tenure, the campus republicans were preparing for a 'diversity bake sale'.

Just as I was packing my things to leave, they were preparing the items in several toaster ovens in a single dorm room, and, somehow, a fire started. Thinking quickly, and without regard for my own safety, I battled back the fire and rescued three of the youths.

The three that I rescued were incredulous. None of them had taken any of my courses, but they knew my reputation for being environmentally conscious, my sensitivity to gender and race equality, and my long hair, so they gathered that I was a liberal. They told me "we've always been told by our parents and other, older, leadership figures with conservative credentials that all liberals are completely selfish, evil cretins who would be gleeful if we died in a fire! Thank you, Cal, for showing us the error of our ways!"

When they rejoined their peers, they were shocked to discover that they were shunned and disbelieved.

I guess I can only make converts a few at a time.

So... am I the only one who doesn't see a problem with this statement?

Nope. Anyone who isn't already looking for a reason to hate the President would think "yeah, that's pretty standard campaign rhetoric." But the GOP have become the party of permanent outrage, so anything Obama says, they have to find a way to spin it negatively. If Obama says "Hello," the GOP will start shrieking because it starts with "hell."

You almost have to give them kudos, though. It's extraordinarily difficult to spin "offense" out of absolutely nothing. Usually there's a small baseline they work with and then spin out hyperbolicly. There's nothing here at all.

Yeah. But you have to try to imagine their perspective. If you woke up every morning, determined to hate something so much that it threw you into an incoherent, spittle-flicking rage, you'd understand.

I mean, for me, a cup of strong coffee is enough to wake me up and get me going, but for Republicans, only raw hatred can get them motivated. Without irrational hate, they have no motivation at all.

If they weren't such a threat to America, I would almost feel sorry for them.

It's just because they hate Obama.

I've come to the inescapable conclusion that that is the sole reason any halfway intelligent person is voting for Romney this year; after the GOP has indicated their total contempt for America and their genuine hatred for most of the rest of the world. I honestly believe a vote for Romney is merely saying "Ha ha ha, F*CK YOU OBAMA! WE GOT YOU AT LAST!!!" without any consideration at all for what might happen after that, even if on January 22d Romney were to whip off his disguise and be Stalin reincarnated and declare the purges would start with everyone who voted for him; these cretins would joyously put their backs to the wall, glad at least Obama wasn't getting another four years.

Saying their employers should go bankrupt without government help?
Calling them nerds and holding them down and cutting off their hair?
For running the most dishonest campaign in modern history?
For saying he doesn't care about 47% of Americans?
For Seamus?

Do you need me to keep going?

HairBolus: via CBS Ryan said of Obama. "Mitt Romney and I are asking you to vote out of love of country. That's what we do in this country. We don't believe in revenge. We believe in change and hope."

Haven't the Republicans been ridiculing the slogan "hope and change" for the last 5 years?

So steal that slogan and reverse the order and it is the new Republican slogan?

Well, it IS 180 degrees from Obama's platform...

Oh, but, wait, wait, you brought it up in a Fark thread to score political points. Never mind.

A) No. Not pretending. Voting is the foundation of our society. Even if it weren't, telling people to 'get revenge' on Romney puts him on the level of Fox News and validates the Republican idea that both parties are the same. They were all very surprised I was a conservative and talked about how they had heard and believed all of :us people" were full of hate and only cared about hurting "their kind".

Learning about both sides before making blind decisions based on what MSNBC says is a much wiser way to live.

Funny thing... Your link mentions no plant closures anywhere. Actully it says this:

CEO Sergio Marchionne laid out a plan today for Fiat to retool its Italian plants and export new models instead of closing additional plants ito reverse ongoing losses in its home market.

We are a nation of law, not revenge. And even if I wanted unending revenge against the Republicans, Romney has not done anything to take away anyone's rights in this election. He's just run for President. He has every right to do that, even if his platform is reprehensible. No one has any realistic claim to revenge against him, and pretending people do is dirty politics.

Defend? Did I in any way defend them? I'm advocating dealing with them in a way that doesn't leave our society with worse problems. Handle them by voting them the f**k out and calling them what they are. That will actually solve the problem, not just build new ones.

And once again, not only is that a completely offensive concept to a democratic republic, Romney has not done anything to cause harm to the average voter. He ran for office. He's allowed to do that. It's like trying to say you should take revenge on a hammer for being in the toolbox.

Are plants being built in China? Per Bloomberg, they are. Could expansion in the US added jobs here? Yes, but it isn't happening here for that market.

Seems that in the whole, and based on the article he was quoting, Romney was essentially correct.

Jeebus, has no one ever heard the phrase "living well is the best revenge"?

It's a specific admonition to not focus on negativity towards another person (revenge), and instead focus on doing something positive in your own life (living well). This is exactly the meaning that Obama intended, and that's why the line before it was "Don't boo. Vote." In response to the crowd booing Republicans.

Unfortunately, Professor Obama strikes again. It was stupid phrasing because it was too clever by half and easily misinterpreted to be the opposite of what he intended.

People still got their noses out of joint over the "revenge" thing?

Here's the deal.

If you are not a little bit angry after 4 years of watching the Republicans constantly lie about everything, obstruct any potential economic progress that might be attributed to Obama or the Dems, try to roll back hard won reproductive rights for women and try to amend the constitution to make gays officially second class then you are either an uber-chill Zen Buddhist type or you simply haven't been paying attention.

Facts are useful things but if you can't connect them to a human emotion you fail as a politiican.
