DaCaptain19: You seem to have a huge narcissistic streak going right through you, buddy. You've stated the reason you don't join any groups is that you feel superior to them...how crazy and narcissistic is THAT?!

I don't join them because I don't like being surrounded by people with big egos. If my ego somehow needed fortifying, I'd be all over that. Nowhere did I say that I think I'm "better than them." I'm just not like that.

You seem to have a lot invested in putting me down, some random person on the internet, to the point where you'd misrepresent my words to support your own agenda. Hmmm. So how many do-gooder groups do you belong to?

lots of THIS^^^

I never see these people volunteering for clinical trials... too busy making posters likening cages full of lab rats to the concentration camps I guess.

"he feared Marino could pose a physical threat to others. "I now fear that person will not be a medical researcher/vivisector she loathes so intensely, but rather me," [italics in the original]

So you had no problem with her being a violent whackbat as long as she was pointed in the direction of medical researchers (i.e., the people who actually benefit society), but now that she's aimed at you you're demanding protection. Boo farking hoo.

We're civilized enough. Could stand to regress a little.

And yes, lots and lots of research goes on without using non-human animals, thankfully. You just don't know much about the subject.

There is no system for evaluating the efficacy of a new drug or vaccine that doesn't involve animal experimentation, not without severe gaps in knowledge. Predictive software just isn't there yet, and cell-based systems never tell the full story. You want to try a new drug in a human without animal trials first?

"As a species we're fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion?"

I have a theory about what I call "do-gooder groups." All of them, from the local animal shelter to the PTA to organized religion.

They attract crazy, narcissistic people. Any good that might come out of them is destroyed by all the people who only join them for a power trip. It's too bad, really. And the reason I never join any of them. Let society decay around me. I'm not going to be guilt-tripped into hanging around with a bunch of nuts ever again.

Like churches, right? Well-known for their progressive views.
