Who stole from each other liberally. The old saying is you're only as good as who you stole from

Pretty much this. That's the blues.

Seriously, subby. You need a bigger database. There are bigger injustices than this to burn your candle for.

// I personally might have chosen to highlight the link to the new video of Kashmir from the 12/07 performance at the O2.

WTF Indeed: Pretty much all Rock & Roll is music ripped off old Black bluesman.

Also, this.

You miss the point; Led Zeppelin and the Stones as well actually took authorship credit for some P.D. old blues tunes by guys like Robert Johnson and others. ("P.D." means "public domain" meaning the copyright ran out.) That's subby's point and a good one.

Actually they put their names on songs Willie Dixon an Howlin' Wolf wrote (and had published credits to) less than 15 years prior, and kept the the writer's royalties for themselves. They got caught, got sued, paid damages in a settlement, and changed subsequent pressings of their LPs to read (and account) properly.

Admittedly it was their scumbag manager Peter Grant more than Plant and Page etc. but it's a legal fact ad by no means is it them recording their own version of traditional songs. Nothing was "PD" as you suggest.

Back in the days of the music tab we went over this stuff in great detail, and settled it in duels to the death. Now get off my lawn.

I like the Presence bestest but no one else seems to

I like Presence and LZIII the best. It depends on my mood. I love the contrast of those two albums.

As a long-time Led Zeppelin worshiper, I've always been impressed that they never were seduced by the "outtakes and alternate takes" reissue idea. Made the original albums that much more powerful, I have always felt -- as if they just couldn't interfere with perfection. Billions of reissues and remasters later, LZIV still starts with "Black Dog" and ends with "When The Levee Breaks", and there isn't all kinds of "Four Sticks [London demo]" and "Wanton Song [early version, take 7]" BS after it.

But I guess the times are the times, and it was inevitable. I'll be both nervous and curious to hear what they stick on the end of the albums for these reissues... but it's the end of a glorious era of happy ignorance.

John Paul Jones was a big part of it all. It's a fact.

Huh. Learn somethin new every day (but if you miss a day they start to pile up)

But The Lemon song is all Killing Floor by Howlin Wolf
Link

But Howlin' Wolf didn't have JPJ on bass, which is what really makes the Zep version.

Well yes.
That's how music works: derivations and borrowing.

Same as it ever was.

Listening to Led Zeppelin (and The Stones/Yardbirds/Cream/The Who) inspired me to seek out and buy a lot of music recorded by old Black bluesmen.

Influences---you can't explain that

Great band, but they ripped songs off from black and white alike, and denied it, and even manufactured stories from where the inspiration came, and only until they were brought to court did they admit or bought the robbed parties off.

I thought we were talking about Led Zeppelin, not the Beatles....
