Let me ask you space geeks a question:

Would it possible to shoot something in the direction of the moon and actually hit it? Like, say, a baseball?

First, is there a cannon or something that would be powerful enough to break out of the Earth's atmosphere and if so, would it be possible to aim and land on the moon with an object from Earth?

Better yet, what would be the possibly of hitting Mars? Once it breaks the atmosphere, wouldn't inertia carry in a straight line to Mars?

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

No, no, no, and no. Any path between two orbiting objects will be an arc due to the gravitation pull of other objects (like the Sun). A light beam moves in a straight line, but to hit Mars, you would have to aim ahead of it's current position.

But if you did aim the proper way, would it be possible to shoot a baseball to Mars?

Actually, even a beam of light is affected by the gravitational pull of massive objects in space, Einstein.

Olympic Trolling Judge: Why was she so friendly with Twilight Sparkle, anyway?

Nightmare Moon was damn near 7' tall and a horse Do you have any idea how much a 7' tall horse weighs?

Twilight managed to unlock the elements of harmony and what was left was Princess Luna, 4' of much smaller pony. She was so much smaller her armor fell off her body.

Now I don't know how many relationships you've been in, but they're very sensitive about their body. If you found a way to reduce a woman's weight so much her "fat" clothes literally fell off, and could do so in less than a minute she'd be your best friend forever.

Another lunar fact that the Moon actually has clouds. Surveyor probes in the 60's observed rays of light taken after sunset that could only happen if light was being reflected off of fine "clouds" of lunar dust rising above the surface.

Yes. What I was asking was let's say I was smart enough to aim the proper trajectory, could I, just an average Joe, shoot a baseball onto Mars?
