dickfreckle: MrBallou: What would be the incentive to keep being asshats, if they no longer need to destroy Obama?

This was my thought as well. If the obstruction was to ensure Obama is a "one term president," it would seem that in a second term the GOP would be more pliable. Thing is, I just don't trust any of these people not to find some other reason to fight the president at every turn.

In general 2nd terms suck balls for all Presidents. They're considered 'lame ducks', and the other side of the aisle just drag their feet or create distractions, because they know they're going to be out of Washington in 4 years.

The only thing that might make this one different, is that there's a shiatload of stuff that the GOP want (increased military pork, maintaining historically low tax rates for the wealthiest Americans) that will expire unless they come to the bargaining table in good faith.

2012-11-02 05:24:36 PM

MrBallou: dickfreckle: Remember when politicians routinely compromised to get things done? Is "obstruction as a device to make the president look bad" now an official part of their stated platform? What sort of collassal douchenozzle must you be to actively harm the country in order to score political points?

Maybe I'm begin hopelessly naive again, but it occurs to me that, if the reason the GOP House wanted to trash the economy to make Obama look bad was so he wouldn't be reelected, then, in his second term, they will not have that reason, since he can't run again anyway.

Instead, individual congressmen will be needing to make themselves look better for their own reelection bids starting in 2014. They'll also want to make the GOP look better in general to give the eventual Presidential nominee a better starting position.

What would be the incentive to keep being asshats, if they no longer need to destroy Obama?

Well, consider the waysin which they were being asshats.

1). Holding the US economy hostage for:
A). Their tax cuts. B). Keystone

2). Insist that business gets an exception to Obamacare.
3). Insist that states get an exception to Obamacare.
4). Wastes money trying to kill Obamacare.

The list goes on. Ideologically, this is simply how they feel. I mean - I'm sure they were more extreme given their intent on making Obama a one term president but do you honestly believe their positions would have reversed if it was another president?

They're asshats.

Next: Mitt Romney will channel Oral Roberts and say if he is not elected president, his god will call him home to Kolob.

Get f*cked with a chainsaw, Mitt.

I'd suggest building a rocket and launching GOP Congressmen into the Sun, but they'd just figure out a way to obstruct it, blanket the Earth in darkness, and blame Obama for it.

So... he's telling us not to vote for any other Republican candidates?

... well, OK, I guess.

//Actually too late, the dude I was going to vote for against my national rep apparently withdrew, and the other guy running against is worse, so one (R) on the ticket for me. Oh, well.

If the Republicans ever got their hands on the Necronomicon, they'd waken dread Cthulhu, blame the Democrats for not stopping them, and then block any attempts to seal him back in R'lyeh unless they also got to eliminate all taxes on the rich and force the entire working class into slave camps.

Kimothy: When I read crap like this, I often wish the South would've been successful in their secession. Then we'd have the first world United States next to the failed experiment third world Confederate States. They'd probably be sick of their own shiat by now and attempting to make some progress. Instead, they are stuck trying to force on the rest of us their ass-backward theological, racial, and patriotic beliefs that achieve nothing but division, distress, and produce demagogues who pander to the fear of their under- and uneducated masses.

I've been wondering recently, instead of the South seceding and forming a New Confederacy, could we just kick them out and close the borders? Same end result, but it would certainly be more proactive.

That how I'd call that. Kick those guys out of that House of yours and don't let them back in until they learn how to play well with others.

it's less blame, and more a situation of acknowledging the south actually tried the 'screw you guys, i'm going home' routine, paired with an intuition it may have been a better idea to just wave at them as they left.

if we play our cards right, within 25 posts, this can be a 'the civil war wasn't about slavery' thread.

weeee.

Ok, I'll bite:

It actually wasn't about slavery. It was about rich white men throwing a colossal hissy fit over the idea that someone else could place any practical limits in their power, privilege, or self-indulgence. Slavery was just a nifty way to sucker poor racist idiots into doing their fighting for them.

Proof? If there had been no money in slavery, it would have ended. Stat.

What a bunch of dicks.

Hey Republicans, do you see Chris Christie and Obama working together? That's how it's supposed to be all the time. We're electing you to get a job done. Stop making up bullshiat lies to get people to hate Obama, tough it out, and work with the guy even if you don't like him like everyone else in the country has to do with their coworkers they dislike.

The worst is with all this Unskewed Polls nonsense, there's very little chance Republicans will grow the fark up after the election and admit they lost. My workplace would be a farking wreck if everyone just accused each other of "not actually being hired," and refused to work because "the other guy just doesn't understand what it means to work for this company."

More to the point, it was white aristocrats fighting white aristocrats over who got to control a particular labor underclass. It was largely about slavery in the sense that the slaves were the resource being fought over.

Old Story is Old...

This has been around about 10 days or so. This is shot on Super-8 film. The problem with that is that Super-8 was invented in 1965. Barry was "invented" in 1961.

Someone was even going onto the Wikipedia web page changing the super-8 invention date back to 1960 to make this seem more legitimate... or something.
