Tom Wolfe is back...

And the reviews are terrible.

They let him out of his ice-box?

Two-tone shoes with white? Only if they're white-on-white.

I gave up on his fiction after "A Man In Full." When the climax of both that and "Bonfire" resolve via a patently ludicrous scenario, I was forced to conclude that, despite being a master journalist and having an exceptional eye for detail, Wolfe isn't really cut out for narrative fiction.

(Also, after what I've heard about "Charlotte Simmons" and this one, all the old guy cares about anymore is sex.)

Cool, I own a white tuxedo. (It's been a very good investment over the years, only cost me $80).

Does it have elephant bells, poly-satin trimmings, and lapels on the lapels? Congratulations, it's actually worth about $8. One of the few articles of clothing that would actually sell for more if covered with fake blood.

He tells a great story. Still weak on endings, but in real life that's the way it is. Until our common ending.

I've seen him in all white shoes, too. But looks like he's a dandy who likes to mix it up.

Huh. I'll bet you live someplace that's not much fun.

Hunter S Thompson's Fear and Loathing sequence of books was very good, Las Vegas fear and loathing being best fear and loathing.

Yeah, his nonfiction too.
The Right Stuff and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, both great books until the end where he just sort of meanders along boringly without any sort of resolution.

I liked reading Thompson's 'Hell's Angels' right after Wolfe's 'Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test' and watching where the narratives overlapped.

I hate Tom Wolf.

He seems to despise the characters in his books.

I made it through "A Man in Full" but that damned abortion of words that was "Charlotte Simmons" was such a disappointmemt that I think I will pass on this...

I loved his other stuff but I am in full agreement that fiction is not his strong point. Bonfire entertained me but he lost me with the last book.

Being from Atlanta I have wanted to read A Man in Full for awhile, but things like that always get in the way of me picking it up.

I like Neal Stephenson, but hate the way he ends his books. I don't want to invest in that type of narrative with another author.

In high school, my sister used to wear all black. Except every once in a while she'd wear all white just to freak people out.

(no, she wasn't really goth or emo. She just liked the look)

Please, nobody wears white after Labor Day.
