(FilmDrunk)   So-called comic book geek Patton Oswalt's Doctor Octopus Halloween costume was never worn in official continuity, and his daughter's Spider-Girl costume in no way resembles the one Mayday Parker wore in her comic series. WORST. COSTUMES. EVER   (filmdrunk.uproxx.com) divider line 15

"Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 is the all-time best superhero-movie villain."

I realize that it's bait, but there are plenty of folks that LOVED that movie and Doc Ock and I simply don't understand why. I'm sure they are thankful that it looks good in comparison to Spiderman 3.

That's the consensus opinion about Spider-Man 2.

Here are the title reigns for best comic book movie:

Superman - Created the title
Batman - might not hold up, but for 1989 audiences it snatched the tile from Supes
X-Men - maybe not better than Superman but seemed like it at the time. Revitalized the genre.
X-Men 2 - Deserving title holder
Spider-Man 2 - Clean title victory
Dark Knight - Undisputed champ
Avengers - controversial 12 round decision. Dark Knight supporters create their own title belt.

Batman (1989) sucks now. I don't want to be all nitpicky about continuity in the character detail, but Batman kills people on 3 separate occasions. Isn't that the opposite of the ONE thing Batman stands for? That and hearing a campy Prince song in a Batman movie ruined it for me.

It was good enough at the time that it led to a string of pregressively worse sequels.

Remember that part in Batman Forever where Two Face falls to his death, and just makes this noise that makes him sound like Fozzie Bear?

Here are the title reigns for best comic book movie:

Superman - Created the title-Sucks, you can't reverse the spin of the earth to time travel
Batman - might not hold up, but for 1989 audiences it snatched the tile from Supes - it's okay.
X-Men - maybe not better than Superman but seemed like it at the time. Revitalized the genre. - Way better than Superman
X-Men 2 - Deserving title holder - Improved on the original
Spider-Man 2 - Clean title victory - Tobey Maguire is a terrible Peter Parker.
Dark Knight - Undisputed champ - agreed
Avengers - controversial 12 round decision. Dark Knight supporters create their own title belt. - I liked this, but not as much as TDK.

Yeah, I've seen the video and it's several orders of magnitude beyond my skill level. I could probably manage one of those with silver dryer ducts and aluminum foil, but that's about it.

spoiler alert (I guess)

The problem with the dark knight rises was the first "act" of the film. We got back stories on bruce, alfed, lucius, commissioner gordon, john blake, catwomen, bane, miranda...so it was 45-50 minutes into the movie before the main story really starts.

That's only the first problem. The other two problems are the middle and the end parts.

That's one of those movies that I really liked when I saw it, but I'm going to hate it more and more if I ever see it again

I think you just need to watch the opening scene, then fast forward to the bank heist and watch from there. Suddenly it's a much better movie.

Erik Larsen tried to give Doc Ock some dignity in the 90s by putting him in a white tailored suit. He looked like he was an actual dangerous supervillain who had some gravitas and had maybe profited at some point, instead of looking like TRON guy but less appealing. Then Marvel made him goofy again ASAP.

It wasn't until the movie that they brought something to the character beyond being a bowl-haircutted relic of simpler times. Like when he could date Aunt May and Peter actually let it happen.
