Good Meowning! Hope everyone slept well. Ready for your first D'aww of the morning? Usually Eli will come in and tell me it is time to get up. Then he will sit on my chest and ask for pets. This morning he wanted his head rubbed in the worst way..he kept butting my mand, and even went so far as to lay his head on my chest! Very unusual for him. So nice to wake up to purrs.

Been skimming through the thread trying to see what I missed (a lot...). Anywho...wanted to say that I'm so thankful that everyone on the east coast made it through Sandy ok. My family out there also fared well. I am glad that lajimi and The Princess (and the shed kitties) are fine and very happy that sherpa was able to replenish his rum :o). I hope those without power, phone, cable, interwebs, etc, have their services restored soon.

Touche with accented e won adult QT contest at SAI Intl, GQ won Rising Star QT (youth), N Metro from Ontario Eh won chorus. Was able to watch exactly 2 Rising Star QTs; Fourtune Cookies didn't make top 10. Should be able to access all scores but not yet; linkies to SAI website still locked up. Maybe if I go into website using my bookmark for it?
Also quite happy to see our fave Alien made appearance at what was decent hr for her & Left Coast Folk.

Someone said you can post photos from Facebook. Can I get specifics on that? I thought I created an account on TinyPic for Caturday use, and while my username is used I can't log in, or get it to send a password reset. So I created a Photobucket account, and am trying to upload Facebook pix to it, but it doesn't seem to be working. :P

TIA!

Ideally, you should be able to turn on the tank valve, turn the ignition switch on, set the choke to on, pull the rope once, and it should start. If not, set the choke to off and pull the rope again and it will start.. all of 'my' generators work that way... normally, it,s a 'guy' thing with generators.. I want the 'gals' to be able to start them also.. I do the necessary tweaks on ignition and carburetors to achieve the easiest starting...

No, it's pine, it would be too resiny to burn inside. We've got lots of wood to burn, we had a cherry tree taken down 3 years ago by this same company, it was threatening to fall on the house. It was right next to where I was taking the pictures of the guys working above the roof. We've still got about 3 face cords left. Cherry is real good in the smoker too, I've plucked out plenty of good pieces to save for that!

yobbery: Mrs CDK: Hi guise

Poor sick Cooper-cat and kitty grass ...

Kittehs (and goggies) really seem to LOVE oat-grass. You can frequently find it at places like PetSmart...
OR (if you are cheap er...thrifty like me) you can grow yer own.

How to grow it:

Find a local health food store (the kind that carries fruits, nuts, grains etc. in bulk).
Purchase about a quarter-pound of oat berries (aka 'seeds')...should run you less than $1 (you can get oat-grass seed at some nice nurseries, but it'll run you $3+ for less than 20 seeds/berries).

Soak about a handful of berries for about a day or so, then sprinkle them on top of the dirt in a flower pot. Lightly cover with soil and keep it *just* moist. Real live morning sun is best, but a gro-light or full daylight spectrum lightbulb works too.
In about 3 weeks you will have a little forest of 2" tall tender green shoots. You might want to give them a bit longer to grow, since most cats will mow this greenery down like hungry goats.
None of the people to whom I've given this as various-occasion gifts have mentioned/complained about the furkids horking it up after consuming...
You may want to limit the amount of time that they have access to it just for the sake of the oatgrass; give it time to recover and grow back.

You can do this with wheat berries also.

So we're up to ten fully hatched baby beardies. One of the eggs was unfortunately dead, and we still have two in the incubator, but no signs of anything from either of them. So now we have Nutmeg, Paprika, and Ghost Chile. Ghost is a little biter, or more to the point, likes to try and bite seeing as how it doesn't have any teeth. No idea on the ratio of males to females, as you can't tell the sex of bearded dragons until around seven months to a year. If we only do end up with ten, then we only lost seven eggs, which really isn't that bad considering that you usually only get about 50% success rate with births anyway. Now they're all in their new terrarium running around when their active, and all over each other when it's time to rest to help stay warm.

When I was in high school, I wanted a beardy. Now I have a terrarium that used to house a turtle. How are they as pets? Do you need multiples to keep them happy? It's been a long time since I read my care guide when I was preparing to get one.

Saved a few things to comment on while reading Fark on my study breaks....

The Green Intern: I*snip

Congrats on the mewbie, Yuki. She's georgous! :) Wonderful story and glad Maxim is looking out for her. Hoping she brings back good memories of Jenka.

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: OK, got caught up in the hurricane last week, and had to concentrate on making sure everything was taken care of, but completely forgot about this and feel horrible about it. So need to make up for it now. Incredible thanks, hugs, and tears to those who sent cards and a package to my family and wife since she has returned. (snipped)

Graag gedaan, BBBB. (Dutch for gladly done.) Your family has been inspirational through this whole thing: I hope if I ever encounter similar situations I can be as strong -and- flexible.

micromedic: It is with deepest sorrow and a great deal of shock that I am bringing the news of our sweet and beloved cat Zoeys death. She was missing, and we have been looking for her. Unfortunately Mr. micromedic found her in the front loading washer. She was NOT washed, and she looked peaceful and without a painful or hard death. We just don't know what happened and are trying to soak it in... We both are at a loss.

{{Hugs}} I feel for you: it's never easy, it shouldn't be, but I try to remember their lives instead of the method of their passing.

Finished my assignment. it's graded (100%! Yay) Will be in and out of the thread for a few more hours, right now I need to take pain meds and hope this isn't the beginning of a migraine...

We started off with one, and then found out it was male and he was getting very lethargic. Perked up pretty well after he got a girlfriend, but we only had one for a little over a year and he did OK by himself. My daughter loves them and their pretty easy to care for. As long as they have veggies, hissing roaches once a week, and plenty of feeder crickets, they are more than content. She pulls them out of the cage once or twice a week and they move around some, but really aren't that mobile most of the time.

The only one you might be able to figure out is Ghost Chile, but you have to stick your finger near each one's mouth to see who tries to bite. Other than that, they all look like their mom, and I can't make out too many differences between any of them.

I am not strong enough to start my gennie with the pull cord so I made sure to get one with a key start. This storm was its first outing. After 12 days with no power last year I wasn't taking any chances! So my snowbird, Dad, picked up a big one in FL last year for a song (display model at Sam's Club) and brought it back with him this past spring. I turn on the fuel valve, pull out the choke, and turn the key. Per the instructions I wait 30 seconds and then push the choke back in. I ran the fridge, TV, laptop, and a lamp with power to spare. I wasn't sure what to do when the power came back on so I just turned it off (tank is almost empty.) So now should I start it up, then turn off the fuel valve and let it run until it stops?

Heh. Mine sometimes jumps on the sink while I'm shaving. I don't mind, but I usually have to shoo her away when she tries to drink soapy stubble water.

Maybe I should just let her. It would probably be the only time she does it.
