Good morning all. We still have a tree leaning on the house, evidently it's been too rainy for the tree company to work on a leaner like this. The insurance company has done their job, we got the check yesterday. So since I don't have any pictures of the tree coming down I decided to chase all the cats down and take new pics.

After 3 years the older cat just started drining water from the toilet and his son did the same, whats wrong with those guys. The mother did understand everything fine, where to take a leak and poop, where to eat, where to drink, and those two guy are just plain dumb like this. Anyway, do you guys remember this girl?

Hi guys, I was told to crosspost this over here, rather in the TFD area :D Hopefully I can get some additional advice!

First cat Caturday thread! I hope this isn't TL;DR!
Okay, I have a cute little 8mo Tabby I adopted- he has all his shots, dewormed, microchipped, is a healthy weight- the whole gamut of cat health services. We also have an elderly cat, 13 yo Tonkinese with kidney issues (and the appropriate food for such) who is also otherwise up to date on everything. Both are indoor cats only.

He seems otherwise healthy, very energetic and far too inquisitive for his own good. It's just that he's constantly begging for food while he's awake. He eats way too fast as well, so we scatter his scoop of kibbles all across the entire kitchen floor... but he just runs around with his face on the floor to eat them faster. Today I got him a little wicker ball he has to bat around to get food out, but it only slowed him down minutely.

He came home with a big bag of Purina Pro Plan for Kittens from the shelter, and they said not to change it or he'd be shiatting everywhere. We mixed in some of the older cat's pre-kidney disease food as Crash got older (Katz-en-flocken gluten free gold or something) but ...

Oops! I forgot the most import part WELCOME! and another thing I forgot to mention. I started giving Abby (and the boys) the grain free food some months ago and she was still throwing up. I changed to Fromm's Duck a la Veg which has much smaller kibbles. It seems to slow her down even more.

It's been two weeks since we had to say goodbye to Jenka, but life is starting to get back to normal around here. Maxim was still pretty down and just not himself, but really begging for attention and wanting someone to play with. And we're all crap at chasing lasers, so we decided it was time to find another kitty for the home. So Mrs Intern, MadAnimalScientist, and I went down to the Animal Rescue League in Ankeny and looked at all the cats, trying to find one who responded well to us. Unfortunately they were all more interested in hiding and running away. (A day care had brought all their kids to see the animals. The kitties were... agitated.)

We were starting to get a little discouraged when we asked if we could pet this shy white kitten we spotted in the corner, and holy damn did she respond. Hopped up on our shoulders, walked around, purring the entire time. She plopped down on Mrs Intern's chest and started nuzzling, and Mrs Intern looked down and asked "Did Jenka send you?"

She got a "mew!" and a headbutt/nuzzle for a reply.

Her name is Yuki, (Means "snow" in Japanese) and she's a seven month old ball of purr. Took her into the vet for her initial exam and they couldn't get a good listen because she wouldn't stop purring. She's got the kitty cold at the moment, and she's sniffling and sneezing up a storm, but thankfully it sounds worse than it is. We've got her on our old friend Clavamox as a preventative, lysine in her food, and lots of TLC and snuggles. The amazing thing to me is how fast Maxim adjusted. With Jenka, it was a three-week process of tense stand-offs, growling, hissing, and the occasional fight every time we tried to introduce them. With Yuki, we did a preliminary introduction on the third day; he walked over, gave a short hiss, bopped her on the head, and walked away. Yuki didn't shy away either; she was totally relaxed the whole time, even with the head bop.

He's checking in on her now. He gives this little trill when he gets close to announce himself, then gives her a once-over. (She's sleeping in her bed, trying to get this crud out of her system)

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Happy Caturday everyone! It's been another strange week here at the B4 home. Halloween night after taking the kids out for their candy, we get home and I send the kids upstairs to get dressed for bed only to hear my daughter scream. I go upstairs and she's standing over the incubator. "Dad, the babies hatched!!!!" I look inside and we have seven bearded dragon babies running around, with another four partially hatched. So that means it's a trip to the pet store and another cage. While we're there, the owners go crazy seeing the wife for the first time in forever, so I let them talk while I'm getting the things we need. When I get back to the counter, there she is, holding another ferret. She can tell by the look on my face that I am not agreeing, but I find out that they got a shipment of animal rescues from NY and NJ, and she had put us down as foster parents for ferrets a while back. So yeah, another furry creature has entered the home. She as found in NJ near the beach, and luckily in decent shape. So say welcome to Macadamia the ferret, and Salt, Pepper, Cinnamon, Corriander, Garlic, Clove, and Poppy Seed. And before anyone asks, the baby beardies won't be staying here for long. We will be selling them to the pet store next month in time for Christmas. Now we have to wait and see how many more of the seven remaining eggs either hatch or not. Below are pics of the newbies.

OK, got caught up in the hurricane last week, and had to concentrate on making sure everything was taken care of, but completely forgot about this and feel horrible about it. So need to make up for it now. Incredible thanks, hugs, and tears to those who sent cards and a package to my family and wife since she has returned. Martin family, leepj, laulaja, Brad and Suzie, Ice Queen, Ms Brote, Akimbotoo, i_fling_poo, Not So Nice Bunny, Sherpa and Dragon, and Mrs CDK and family. If I missed anyone, please forgive me on that. I think I got all the cards in one place, but the wife put them all around the house, so if I missed one, sorry about that. It most definitely brought tears to her eyes as well as a well placed glare in my direction (she was upset I didn't tell her about it). Thank you all again from the bottom of my and my family's heart. Your kindness and generosity is truly moving and very much appreciated.

I didn't either until I saw the list with our name on it, and all the other animals that had been brought in. Really broke my heart to see all those animals and the poor shape some of them were in. I'm really hoping that they all get back to their owners, but I know it's going to be hard if not all of them are chipped. I told the wife and the rest of the family that if I see anything on Macadamia, I will personally deliver her to her former owners without hesitation. I know how bad it hurts to lose an animal, and with what all is going on up there, any kind of hope is what they are looking for. If we can't find anything or hear anything, then she will be permanently adopted.

xanadian: Missy, my BF's cat of 15 1/2 years passed away this morning at 10:45 AM. She died from FLEAS and the anemia they caused, despite her being treated and dosed with Frontline just 2 weeks ago. :-/ The only thing the vet told us (outside of giving her anti-flea stuff) was "feed her more." :-P Apparently, she was doing fine up until 2 days ago when all her get-up-and-go got up and went. She is sorely missed here. She was a very smart and loving kitty with an attitude as big as the moon.

Here is a pic of the little girl.

For some reason, she liked hanging out in the bathroom.

Sure, but you have to feed and pay vet bills for purebred cats as well. At least with mine, there was no initial cash outlay. But...

In 2008, there were some terrible wildfires around here. Late that summer, they had a story on the local news about how the local shelter were being overwhelmed by all of the cats and dogs because of people losing their homes. They were offering free kittens, with all of their shots, and spayed or neutered. They showed footage of adorable kittens in cages, and I was really tempted. But I had two cats already, and I didn't give in. About a week after that, I woke up one morning, hearing a kitten crying outside. I went and looked, and I saw this:
i45.tinypic.com
Just one kitten, all alone. She would run and hide under the house if you approached her. So, I started feeding her. Then I rented a trap. Then I gave her a bath, to get rid of the fleas, and pulled off an impressively large tick.

i50.tinypic.com

Then I took her in to get her shots, and get rid of the ear mites, and eventually get her spayed. It would have been much cheaper to have gone to the shelter. But she's been a good cat.
i50.tinypic.com

i50.tinypic.com
Taking her in was a mean thing to do to my old cat. They look peaceful here, but he was much too old to deal with a kitten, and she would tackle him and try to play, and he would hiss and run away as fast as his arthritic limbs could carry him. Poor old Weasel has gone to the great litterbox in the sky. He too was a feral that I took in.

My wife and I have had a Selkirk Rex/Ocicat mix for the last 5 years.

Oooooh! Pictures? Welcome!

De-lurking to share kitteh pictures. :)

This is Mischief (Missy for short). As Leishu said, we've had her about five-ish years now. She has the ocicat markings with the curly Selkirk Rex fur. She's also very, ah, cranky. She defaults to glaring most of the time.

i1295.photobucket.com

She's also very helpful when I'm playing WoW. Here, she's critiquing my belf hunter and wondering where the nasty bugs went on the monitor.

i1295.photobucket.com

The curly Rex fur makes for extra soft belly to rub. It also makes for curly whiskers too, so on occasion, she looks like a 1920's silent movie villain.

She's now chasing her tail across the floor and crying when she gets a hold of it. She's half out of her mind right now. And now here comes Sake' to the nip. This should be interesting.

You Are All Sheep: Okay cat people, I have a question. I have a cat that 'found' us from outside who looked pretty miserable, but he's now very very happy in the home, quite a lover and good kitty.

The one odd thing. If you ring a bell, he will eventually vomit. Or rattle keys, or pour pennies out, whatever makes a similar noise, he will start what I call "long licking" and then GACK.

but he doesn't seemed bothered by it. Doesn't get upset or leave or anything.

any clues? Nobody I've talked to has ever heard of that.

My best guess?
Previous owner would make jingly noises to try and distract kitteh from yarking or lure it to yark elsewhere, creating a pavlovian response

Too cute! She looks very much like my Tola, who is the silliest cat I've known. She's a very smart-dumb cat - she can figure out how to plug the tub and turn the water on, but she can't figure out how to open a door resting close. She likes one or two pets, if she allows it, and then it's too much! too much! and she runs away. We've concocted a lot of stories around her. She loves and can say "ham". We gave her a piece of roast beef once, and she sniffed it, said "noooo" and walked away. If any cat could ever get some human speech down, she seems like she'd be capable!

Looking cute in her little scratching post house;

xanadian: Missy, my BF's cat of 15 1/2 years passed away this morning at 10:45 AM.

I'm so sorry for your loss. The two cats and our former dog had fleas in one of our apartments. Maybe because the fleas were so overwhelming, but I found the FrontLine stuff to NEVER work! I guess I had never thought that cats could die from fleas or flea-related causes - so this is new to me! I found constant flea baths and flea collars worked the best on my lot. At least on my white cat, it was easy to pick the fleas off, ugh. With the collars on, the fleas would gather around their faces. SO glad it got taken care of. But I am very sorry about you losing Missy. And I agree, we should find a way to zap the fleas out of here!

colimar: After 3 years the older cat just started drining water from the toilet and his son did the same, whats wrong with those guys. The mother did understand everything fine, where to take a leak and poop, where to eat, where to drink, and those two guy are just plain dumb like this. Anyway, do you guys remember this girl?

Omg, looks exactly like my cat Baby, right down to the wide green eyes and alarmed ear stance.

Pierogi seemed to be immune to the lure of the catnip, but Sake' went nuts and mule kicked the scratching board three times before running off to chase Scampi. Fatty Waffles is currently sleeping and not to be disturbed, so we'll check with her later. Mrs. B4 is sitting on the couch napping with Macadamia wrapped around her shoulders nestled in her hair. She's done this with the wife and daughter now, so she is definitely a cuddle baby, at least for now. Scampi has become very chatty here lately now that she's feeling better again. She's also slowly getting acquainted with the ferrets. Still has some trouble with the boy ferrets, but she does love chasing them under the couch, then popping them when the stick their heads out.
I start my retraining Monday for my new job, so really looking forward to that. Wife is currently mulling helping out at the library which is about 5 houses down from us. Mom is also thinking about it as well, but she is only thinking about doing story time for young ones a couple of times a week. Wife also is thinking about helping out with a local bake shop that one of the neighborhood ladies runs. She made some seriously delicious sugar cookies for Halloween, and the wife loves to cook anyway, so it's another idea she's thinking about. She wants to use the cook books I brought her back from all the countries I visited while in the Navy. I got her a couple of thousand dollars worth of jewelry during my time, and those cook books were still her favorite. I don't mind, because there are some awesome recipes in there that we have used repeatedly, and even my mom, Mrs. Meat and Potatoes herself, has even admitted to being surprised at how good some of the things we've made have been, especially when I made her Shawarma for the first time. She never knew she liked Humus until she tried it. I'll try and get some more pics posted today if the kittehs and ferrets decide to be photogenic.

What a lovely kitty she is! Sorry that your elder cat is no longer with you.
Hugs!

This thread making me very misty today as I'm attempting to rehome a couple of mine that SHOULD have gone on when they were two months old. I wanted to get new homes then when they were teeny and hadn't yet wormed themselves into my heart. Hubby has great potential to be a cat hoarder and wouldn't let me because they were his first grandkittens. I have five cats in a one bedroom apt as a result. Anyone in Maine or in New Brunswick, Canada that would like a gorgeous, fluffy chatty tuxedo boy or his quiet, ninja like black sister?

I am staying elsewhere, but I check back every other day. I spent Thursday night at the house picking up things that I needed.

A few months ago, I posted about my mom's cats, Beemer and Blossom. Beemer has since passed away and it doesn't look good for Blossom right now. She's had a wound on her face for several weeks, and the vet was afraid to put her under anesthesia because she might not come out of it. Blossom is 24 years old. My mom got her when I was 13. I'm hoping she's still around when I go down there for Turkey Day. I cannot ask my mom to keep her alive just for that though. She can still jump on the sofa AFAIK. I'm going to try to get a cat memorial urn before I go down there. I'm amazed and grateful that she's lived this long. It literally rips my heart into shreds when I read the stories of pets lost during disasters like Sandy.

xanadian: I think we can all agree that we need to allocate Federal funding to genetic research to create an engineered disease that wipes out all fleas forever. It's not like anything feeds off of them...

Macadamia. She is fully white with a gray streak from her tail to her front shoulders. She is a very cuddle loving ferret and also loves to talk.

So is Macadamia staying permanently or just fostering?
I can't tell, but are her eyes pink or just the red eye from the camera?

She's a foster for now, but I'm highly doubting finding out her real family with everything that's going on up north. She's very loving and personable. She is having trouble with the boy ferrets and the sisters of destruction though. They always seem rough with new ferrets, but we're keeping a close eye on her when they are all out to play. She has black eyes as she is not a full albino. We've never seen a ferret with her markings before. It really looks like a spear down her back from her tail. We had trouble figuring out her name until I saw some Macadamia ice cream in the freezer and remembered how much the wife loves that stuff. Kids wanted her to be named Vodka, but that wasn't an option.

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: OK, got caught up in the hurricane last week, and had to concentrate on making sure everything was taken care of, but completely forgot about this and feel horrible about it.

You're very welcome :)
Tried to find a ferret card. There are not enough ferret cards :(

Credit to our fave Alien, fetched Ago. Time for nommies for all here --

[i45.tinypic.com image 640x480]
Just one kitten, all alone. She would run and hide under the house if you approached her. So, I started feeding her. Then I rented a trap. Then I gave her a bath, to get rid of the fleas, and pulled off an impressively large tick.

[i50.tinypic.com image 320x240]

Then I took her in to get her shots, and get rid of the ear mites, and eventually get her spayed. It would have been much cheaper to have gone to the shelter. But she's been a good cat.

Taking her in was a mean thing to do to my old cat. They look peaceful here, but he was much too old to deal with a kitten, and she would tackle him and try to play, and he would hiss and run away as fast as his arthritic limbs co ...
