Happy Caturday everyone! It's been another strange week here at the B4 home. Halloween night after taking the kids out for their candy, we get home and I send the kids upstairs to get dressed for bed only to hear my daughter scream. I go upstairs and she's standing over the incubator. "Dad, the babies hatched!!!!" I look inside and we have seven bearded dragon babies running around, with another four partially hatched. So that means it's a trip to the pet store and another cage. While we're there, the owners go crazy seeing the wife for the first time in forever, so I let them talk while I'm getting the things we need. When I get back to the counter, there she is, holding another ferret. She can tell by the look on my face that I am not agreeing, but I find out that they got a shipment of animal rescues from NY and NJ, and she had put us down as foster parents for ferrets a while back. So yeah, another furry creature has entered the home. She as found in NJ near the beach, and luckily in decent shape. So say welcome to Macadamia the ferret, and Salt, Pepper, Cinnamon, Corriander, Garlic, Clove, and Poppy Seed. And before anyone asks, the baby beardies won't be staying here for long. We will be selling them to the pet store next month in time for Christmas. Now we have to wait and see how many more of the seven remaining eggs either hatch or not. Below are pics of the newbies.

Relatively recently you had short leg cats. Now we have curly haired cats.

It is good to know cats are finally catching up with dogs, adapting them to humans.

1. Maggie (internationally recognized for 12 years as cutest cat in the universe)
2. Rusty (notoriously handsome devil)
3. Any shelter cat

Okay cat people, I have a question. I have a cat that 'found' us from outside who looked pretty miserable, but he's now very very happy in the home, quite a lover and good kitty.

The one odd thing. If you ring a bell, he will eventually vomit. Or rattle keys, or pour pennies out, whatever makes a similar noise, he will start what I call "long licking" and then GACK.

but he doesn't seemed bothered by it. Doesn't get upset or leave or anything.

any clues? Nobody I've talked to has ever heard of that.

Hmmm..almost sounds likeva conditioned response. Like my cat knows when I whistle for him it means food, so he comes running...also might be an issue with his ears...as in the sound irritates his ears, triggering a gag reflex...

Fell in Love With a Chair I suspect your little monster is eating because he is bored, and he bolts his food because somewhere alonng the line he was hungry...does he get any gooshy food? Try giving him more gooshy food. Also put the crunchies in an airtight container so he isn't smelling it all day long.

When my loudmouth, Eli the bitey gets obnoxious about food, I pick him up and give him lovins..then refuse tofeed him. Or, I will give him a few kibble in his bowl and tell him "all gone"...it really does work!

Hi guys, I was told to crosspost this over here, rather in the TFD area :D Hopefully I can get some additional advice!

First cat Caturday thread! I hope this isn't TL;DR!
Okay, I have a cute little 8mo Tabby I adopted- he has all his shots, dewormed, microchipped, is a healthy weight- the whole gamut of cat health services. We also have an elderly cat, 13 yo Tonkinese with kidney issues (and the appropriate food for such) who is also otherwise up to date on everything. Both are indoor cats only.

With the older cat, Shawn, we just refill his bowl whenever it's empty because he'll only eat when he's hungry. With the kitten, Crash, he'll eat til he throws up, will attempt to eat the throw up, then Shawn's food, then will try to break into the cabinet his food is in, then he'll try to eat my food, anything in the sink, things that aren't food (sunflower seed hulls, pennies) and then cry for hours outside his food cabinet.

We are NOT starving this cat, he gets more than the recommended daily amount, and given his druthers he'll eat til he barfs and then eat more. He's a wily one- he cries the most when the food cabinet is taped shut or otherwise blocked. He'll freak out until I unblock it... and then try to sneak in when I'm not listening.

He seems otherwise healthy, very energetic and far too inquisitive for his own good. It's just that he's constantly begging for food while he's awake. He eats way too fast as well, so we scatter his scoop of kibbles all across the entire kitchen floor... but he just runs around with his face on the floor to eat them faster. Today I got him a little wicker ball he has to bat around to get food out, but it only slowed him down minutely.

He came home with a big bag of Purina Pro Plan for Kittens from the shelter, and they said not to change it or he'd be shiatting everywhere. We mixed in some of the older cat's pre-kidney disease food as Crash got older (Katz-en-flocken gluten free gold or something) but ...

Sounds a lot like my kitteh that had hypothyroidism. He LOVED eating the other kitteh's puke. Plus he would scarf down his food and the other kitteh's food and beg for more. Anything that hit the floor he considered food. I once watched him eat a big chunk of red pepper and a walnut. He hit 26 pounds before he turned 2. You might want to get him tested.

Shelby County Shelter. "We Give all Animals Shelter in the Storm" simple, direct.

Forgot to tell you, we want to stay away from Shelby County because we are trying to expand and don't want to limit ourselves to one county. There are many animals in Kentucky that need help and we hope to have funds to help many animals.

reigning.cats.and.dogs: I got sent home from work because I have cooties and nobody wanted me around to share! Oh well... I had a nap and got to cuddle with my critters and play with the neighborhood pups for a bit.

Speaking of the neighborhood pups... These two little miniature Schnauzers are looking at losing their home - papa is active US Army and is looking at being redeployed - mama wants to follow him, but pups don't seem to be welcome on base housing. They talked to family members and nobody seems willing to take on both (they're from the same breeder, same biatch, but different litters), and the breeder is not returning calls, even after assuring them that she'd take them in if he were ever deployed and not able to keep them... it would be a shame to separate them. They are Fozzie's bestest friends and Cheech's last day was spent playing with them - they were the only doggy neighbors that would play with him (side note... the anniversary of his death is only four days from today?). Their mama and papa always talk about how anti-social they are, but they love Fozzie, and give me kisses for treats. I may be insane (two cats and one dog with me in a 780 sq. ft. condo), but I could not bear to see them separated... Am I really considering taking on TWO additional pups? On top of the zoo I already have in my little abode? Am I insane? Is this the right thing to do? They may return and be able to reclaim them, but they may not... I did tell their papa to not do anything without first talking to me. Fozzie would be heartbroken if they went away, and I am quite fond of them, myself...

Think of yourself as a foster mom.Starting out with you will guarantee that they will stay together and buy them more time after papa gets deployed. If it really is too much, you can keep looking for a home for them.

Are you giving him kitten food? It has high protein, fat and calories for growing kittens, all stuff that is bad for cats with kidney problems. He might be eating because of cravings. Or he might be eating because of food insecurity issues.

I don't know what they are called, but there are bowls to help slow down fast eaters. Imagine a standard stainless steel dog bowl flipped upside down.

Use high protein treats to train the little one to do tricks. He obviously has a high food drive. That might help if he has protein/fat/calorie cravings that his regular food is not taking care of.

Get a variety of treat dispensers, hide them around the house, filled with kitten kibbles. Maybe you could find or rig up a holding bin with a lever dispenser with a timed reset so he can't just flip, flip, flip and empty the bin before eating everything in it?

That's all I can think of at the moment. Good luck with the little guy.

Since she's a rescue ferret, I'm going to guess that she will be permanent. We're searching for any word on who her owner used to be or anything else we can find, but I'm guessing she'll be here for good. The beardies are barely the size of my pinkie finger, but very active for short periods of time. Tried to transfer them from the incubator to their cage and they were incredibly quick.

Some of these pure bred cats seem really cool (especially Bengals) but for my part, the best cats in life are free. All three of my cats were ones that were dumped at my place as kittens. My cat Jessica may not have been dumped; her mother may have been feral. At any rate, starving kittens found a home

ya gotta sleep sometime: All hail the power of Caturday. I need some creativity and that's not really my strong suit. The local rescue organization I work with is in desperate need of a name change. We're looking for a name that isn't too cute so when we go to the state to lobby for animal issues we'll be taken seriously. We're a no kill shelter and we take in all kinds of animals, cats, dogs, bunnies, birds, etc. Basically, if it needs help we help it. Does anyone have any ideas for a name and a tag line? All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have a 2 year old ex-feral kitty who has the same problem with scarfing so fast she herks up everything she just ate. My solution was a bowl from the Drs Foster & Smith website Link which seems to work pretty well. There was another bowl that looked like it would also work pretty well, but I didn't want to dish out $30 plus shipping for one dish (but now that it is on sale I will have to order a couple) Link

If everything else is good for him it may have to be something he will grow out of sooner or later. 8 months old is still pretty young.

Here is a picture of my little speed eat'n hurk queen Abby:
