Plague Dogs - Snitter *literally* kills the last chance he has for a happy home life

that's the movie where they ask children to decide whether the island is a mirage or reality, right? jesus christ, what a depressing movie.

You do realize that it's not a children's film, right? Animation was simply the most cost effective way of realistically portraying anthropomorphic talking animals.

/Not a parent but if I were I'd probably forbid my kids from watching any movie with the word "plague" in the title
//"grave" as well.

Then don't let them watch Watership Down either (which is on the list). For some reason people think that's a kids movie, when it's pretty much the exact opposite.

You really should watch Up. The beginning is heart rending, but it really does make the rest of the movie that much better and more uplifting. Grave of the Fireflies though? Fark that. There is nothing hopeful, happy, or uplifting at any point in that film. The most uplifting part of the film is when it's over, much like the best part of being set on fire is when they put the flames out.

Oh fark you.

My reaction when I first saw it (90ish (born 83)) was to drop my Prowl figure and stare in shock. Watching it again two years ago was to nearly pull my M4 on the laptop.

I likely had seen one of those images and have since forgotten originally viewing. I would not consider the statement to be particularly profound; the Twilight series is that awful, and Up's opening will produce an emotional response in a Vulcan.

of course, it's posted in almost any twilight thread you try to avoid. I think anyone would agree with that statement. my comment was directed at comalite, who seemed to think you took it from some random poster. I was merely pointing out that you're innocent of plagiarism, and only guilty of reading Twilight threads;)

You must be mistaken. Clearly I am a plagiarist, and I will sign an affidavit affirming such.

I can't watch that movie because of that scene, it hits really really close to home.

/No sweet daughter we can't ever watch Up daddy will turn catatonic for too long thinking about mommy.

zato_ichi: costermonger: Farking first ten minutes of Up.

That sequence makes me want to meet the people at Pixar who created it, shake their hands, congratulate them on a brilliant peice of work, and then punch them in the nuts.

I don't even need to watch the damn thing to get all emotional.

If that opening sequence was the entire movie, I still feel like I would have gotten my moneys worth.

Hey guys, who wants a knife to the heart?

Wow. That was...just...crushing.

I haven't seen that movie and I don't think I ever will. :(

You should. That utterly soul destroying opening sets up the entire movie and makes the payoff all the better.

In less than five minutes Pixar created a more emotionally satisfying love story than the Twilight series will accomplish in five feature-length movies or four books.

"Dear sweet Littlefoot... do you remember the way to the Great Valley?"

*sniff* "I guess so. But, why do I have to know, you're going to be with me!"

"I'll be with you... even if you can't see me..."

"What do you mean, "If I can't see you"? I can always see you."

"...Littlefoot... let your heart guide you....... it whispers... so listen closely............."

"Mother? Mother?!"

"Don't lose your way.
With each passing day,
You've come so far.
Don't throw it away!
Live believing
Dreams are for weaving!
Wonders are waiting to start!
Live your story:
Faith, hope and glory!
Hold to the truth in your heart!

If we hold on together,
I know our dreams will never die!
Dreams see us through to forever!
Where clouds roll by
For you and I!

Souls in the wind
Must learn how to bend.
Seek out a star,
Hold on to the end.
Valley, mountain,
There is a fountain
Washes our tears all away!
Words are swaying,
Somebody is praying,
Please let us come home to stay!

If we hold on together,
I know our dreams will never die!
Dreams see us through to forever!
Where clouds roll by
For you and I!

When we are out there in the dark,
We'll dream about the sun!
In the dark we'll feel the light
Warm our hearts, everyone!

If we hold on together,
I know our dreams will never die!
Dreams see us through to forever!
As high as souls can fly,
The clouds roll by
For you and I!"

Ohhh my god, yea that list wasn't bad but if your willing to go foreign then its going to get real dark real fast. Grave of the Fireflies should only be viewed with handfulls of prozac on hand.

Watership Down is a kids movie, I watched when it came out. I had my kids watch it when they were quite young. Just because its not blowing happy sunshine up your butt doesnt mean its not a kids movie.

I've watched that exactly once. And afterwards, to cheer myself up, I watched Schindler's List.

Anyhoo, my maternal grandmother died when my mom was 5, so you can imagine Bambi was never a popular movie in my house when I was growing up. I think I've only seen it once.

Most of Kenny's deaths were just random or even funny, but the "Kenny Dies" episode where he actually died instead of being killed and didn't come back for a season (it was originally intended to be permanent) was truly sad and powerful.

Oh, and the animated Transformers movie was farking horseshiat. On top of Prime, you have Ironhide, Prowl, Ratchet and Wheeljack all dying in the first 5 minutes so that you can introduce Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus and Kup? Fark you.

4. Hazel (Watership Down)
3. Optimus Prime (Transformers '86)
2. Ray (Princess and the Frog)
1. Bugs Bunny/Brunnhilde (What's Opera Doc)
