Are you suggesting swedes migrate?

I have a couple of comments about this headline and article subby.
1. "Norway" is a good substitute for that tired, over used "that's no way to go through life, son" headline tag. Jeebus that's annoying.
2. Paying people to go somewhere else is old news, whether on a national level or local level. Lots of agencies put their homeless or bothersome people on buses and send them to other towns. Its called "Greyhound Therapy". Can't solve a annoying problem? Send it to another place. Problem solved!

What the hell kind of town is this? Or country for that matter... That liberal bastion of socialist utopia! It would appear the strain was more then they could bear. Now the only human being in life who ever gave them hope is going to be voted out and their Nynorsk is still worse then their Svenska. When are the libs going to recognize that its over between them and this great nation? Well...hej då.

In the United States we overburden our youth with massive debt if they want an education, offer them shiat pay and shiat jobs and give next to no on-the-job training. Then we call them lazy and slackers if they can't find work that will pay the bills.

Lets not forget that the youth of America are in multiple wars, all their national wealth has been squandered, their environment has been trashed for short-term gain and we beat and jail them if they try to complain.

I posted this on Facebook with the comment, "Go West, young man." Subby's headline is much better. But it IS kind of funny that there's a West-ward migration from Sweden to Norway for work, in so much as that expression I used was used originally when the West in the US was a wild frontier, whereas Norway and Sweden are highly developed countries, which somehow to me made me think my comment was a tiny bit funny. No one has liked it though!

I am Swedish, btw, and I debated not posting the comment on FB. Doesn't seem to reflect well on us, but honestly I've heard for a long time that going to Norway to find work was normal for young people in Sweden.

Forget Canada, Go for mexico. We can sell the Mexican/ American wall to Canada and just not tell them were headed south.

Krymson Tyde: Are you suggesting swedes migrate?

Let's see:

Population of Sweden = 9,514,406
Swedish Americans = 4,347,703

So about 1/3 of Sweden immigrated just to the US.

And if you think some on the US side are lunkheads think of those left whose ancestors didn't have the smarts to get out. Sure Sweden is a fairly nice socialist state now but that is a well post WWII development. Before then they were mostly poor peasants and fishers.

they better get to Norway while the job market is still good. Norway's economy is overheating now, with personal debt levels rivaling America's levels in 2006-2007.

"Hmmm, you know, jobs in the Army could solve the problem, too. Maybe we could invade an oil-producing country with a much smaller and weaker military, giving our people jobs. And it would be nice if we had a land connection to Alaska. So, Canada, you want to give these guys visas, or have us give them rifles?"

Perhaps instead of creating 40 billion a month to buy MBS from corporations, we could generate money to pay for infrastructure improvements. It wasn't that long ago the interstate collapsed in Minnesota. Would employ thousands of blue collar workers, and would infuse cash into the economy, but unlike QE, would provide cash directly to the consumer.. They would spend that cash on products, creating demand and a need for businesses to expand, thus creating more jobs. We get infrastructure iimprovements to boot. New Dealy I know, but I just don't see how QE really spurs hiring as demand for product is unchanged. The companies just sit on that cash they get from the fed. I guess the shareholders benefit..

Yeah I've heard some real crazy stories going through the border. Often people are turned around even for a little weekend sight seeing. One guy I knew had a beer on the flight and was pulled aside for a 10 year old dui, smelled the beer and put him right back on a flight home.

Crazy considering i usually consider the Canadian side of the border less invasive than the new york city bridge and tunnels.

Come to Norway, it's nice here.

Well, right now it's cold and dark and a bit windy, but besides that...

The average workers pay is some 80k usd a year, and we got free health care.

And now a message from the Norwegian Party: Link

2012-11-02 12:27:18 PM
I worked in Norway for about four months back in '08. When I asked a Nowegian manager why they had brought Americans over for work that many qualified Norwegians could do, the reply was "you're cheaper". That's easy to believe - They have national health care, a national pension system, free college tuition, etc. One guy I met - his wife had a baby and HE got a year off with full pay.

I really liked living in Oslo, but things are expensive there. USD $25 for a six pack of beer, gas was at $10+/gal, an average restaurant meal was easily $100. You get used to it; after being there for a couple months, I'd see a t-shirt in a store window for $50 and think "hey, that's not a bad price." Hash (They call it 'maroc' because most of it comes from Morocco) was affordable though, so that part was nice.

Overall, people there seem happier with life than we are here in the US.

Could be, but it's apples and oranges. Norway has a population smaller than the Atlanta metropolitan area.
