Officers roused the woman, and then removed her from her SUV. She was handcuffed, searched and taken to the city jail on a DUI charge.

Nothing like getting a "Driving Under the Influence" charge when you aren't even driving.

She had passed out at a traffic light: A passerby called 911 after seeing the woman covered in blood and unresponsive in her vehicle at a traffic light.

Hell in Virginia they have arrested people in bars for "public intoxication". They also have arrested people who sleep in their cars for DUI, even if the keys aren't in the ignition.

I almost passed out on the drive back from Stone Brewery in Escondido back to Los Angeles last weekend. I had to stop in San Clemente for an hour nap.

The story about being arrested in the VA bar is from 2003 but I can't find out what happened to him at the trial. Any follow up link?

Did a quick look, but couldn't find any follow up either. They stopped the practice of "raids" on bars after this because of the outcry.

FTFA: slumped over the wheel of her vehicle at a Birmingham intersection

The more likely explanation is that someone pulled a Halloween prank on her: got her drunk, moved her car to an intersection, put her in it, and knocked her out. Makes sense.

Yes it is. No one got hurt, and a drunk driver got charged. Win/win.

So I quess I was wong to call the police in the guy who was "napping" in his car that time, at 6 in the morning. Just because he was parked half way on the sidewalk, a few feet where someone else had the (previous month) parked their car upsidedown in the front yard. The smashed cars in his wake, well, gee, I didn't see him do that.

CSB incoming

Friends and I were cruising around late one night and pulled up behind a car at a red light, it turns green, car doesn't move. We get out to investigate, dude driving is passed out. Car is a stick, the cast on guys leg was heavy enough to keep clutch engaged. I reach across him, and put it in neutral. We wake him up, get him to move into passenger seat, and I drive his car (BMW) to his house. He was too drunk to tell us where he lived, so we checked his wallet. Much deliberation was had on whether to ring the doorbell and see if anyone was home, but we figured there was no use getting him in trouble with his wife/gf.

Random act of kindness / enabling. Do unto others , and all that ya know.
