50. Vermont
49. Colorado

May the taint of the "jam band" forever keep these two states pulling up the rear. There is no apology or redress great enough to ever overcome the utter disgrace of Phish and The String Cheese Incident. May God have mercy on your souls.

With absolutely no reasoning as to why. What a worthless list.

mitchcumpstein: Summoner101: Minnesota...?

Husker Du, The Replacements, The Jayhawks...

Not saying they should be #1, but they're not bad.

2012-11-01 12:24:55 PM
This is a ridiculous list.

However, I do agree that georgia should be in the top 10.

2012-11-01 12:30:36 PM
Tennessee at 6 and Minnesota at 1?

I would be interested in the logic behind that list, if there is any at all.

2012-11-01 12:31:21 PM
I grew up in Oregon. I would have bet that it was #50. I would like to know HOW it got to the middle of the list. Maybe Kurt Cobain made a beer run down there one time.

Someone help me out with Minnesota. Besides Prince I mean.

Bob Dylan

/Which isn't enough to make it #1 IMHO...

for florida off the top of myhead:
Skynyrd
Tom Petty
Jimmy Buffet
Black Crows
Gloria Estefan and a whole host of Latin music

However, Florida is also reponsible for:
Creed
Just about every boy band out there
All the disney kids like Britney Spears

/they may cancel each other out
//DNRTFA so I don't know where Florida ranked

Bob Dylan

Before Dylan most people didn't write their own songs. It was Tin Pan Alley and producers. Dylan changed the music industry forever. Now, we all judge musicians on their song writing ability...

Please explain why Connecticut isn't in the mid fifties?

2012-11-01 12:40:35 PM
Ah yes, I can clearly see what would elevate Arkanasas to be one better than Kansas. And Hawaii was the obvious #29...

The list is based on the author's home state, states where former girlfriends are from, favorite bands of girls he hopes to bang, sports teams, regional foods, average precipitation, and density of Starbucks locations averaged against hipsters/ square mile.

2012-11-01 12:41:28 PM

Igor Jakovsky: Jimmy Buffet

Born in Mississippi, raised in Alabamastan. But what contributions has he really made to music, other than chain restaurants (of very varying quality)?

//So, I take it this list was made by Prince, or somebody from Lips, Inc.?

kumanoki: This is a ridiculous list.

Yeah, I would've been surpised if it fell past that.
R.E.M, Ray Charles, B-52's, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, not to mention all the myriad rappers from here.

Who the fark writes this crap and why does anyone even submit it?!
I'm blaming YOU, TF'ers.

So I went to Wikipedia to find some famous musicians from my state...and found out Danny Carey is from Lawrence.

I don't know what but this means something...and it gives me a reason to post
Flood

Also, found out Joe Walsh and Janelle Monae are from here. And of course, Split Lip Rayfield.

And Kansas, who went to my high school.

You get the 'Funny.' Congrats.

2012-11-01 12:51:35 PM
The choice of putting Minnesota #1 was based solely on Tay Zonday.

2012-11-01 12:53:44 PM
Dylan, Prince, Husker Du, the Replacements, Soul Asylum.

Of lesser note: Semisonic, Low, Cornbread Harris.

2012-11-01 12:55:13 PM
Yes. Because there are no recording studios in Los Angeles, Nashville, nor New York City that the musicians from Minnesota move to.

2012-11-01 12:58:25 PM
This would have been better if there had been any attempt whatsoever to explain why.

Scratch that. This would have been anything other than a total waste of my day if there had been any attempt to explain why.

2012-11-01 01:04:27 PM
There's no way Michigan should not be in the top 3, if not #1.

2012-11-01 01:05:27 PM
I thought Wisconsin should be higher because of Les Paul, but I guess that is mitigated by killing Stevie Ray Vaughn and unleashing the BoDeans upon the world.

2012-11-01 01:05:52 PM
Ohio should be higher.

2012-11-01 01:06:16 PM
Ohio should be #1 based on Bone Thugs, alone.

2012-11-01 01:07:04 PM
If Mississippi isn't #1, then it's a shiat list

*click*

yep, it's a shiat list. Why the hell is Minnesota #1? Prince & Bob Dylan did far less for American music than anybody from Mississippi, and that doesn't even count FAMOUS blues musicians.

2012-11-01 01:08:59 PM
Minnesota (which still doesn't deserve to be #1), has more than Prince and Bob Dylan;

Atmosphere
Andrews Sisters
Babes in Toyland
Gypsy
Husker Du
Jimmy Jam
The Jayhawks
The Jetts
Motion City Soundtrack
Willie Murphy
Owl City
The Replacements
Semisonic
Soul Asylum
Trampled by Turtles
Lipps Inc (wrote Funkytown)
Trashmen (Bird is the word)

Ebenator: Husker Du and Dylan, but still

OK - Dylan counts for something. So does Bob Mould in my book. But I agree.

The "article" is bad and it's author should feel bad.

Being from Oregon the only "home grown" bands I can think of are Poison Idea, Everclear and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies (who I actual saw play in a Grange Hall in Yachats or something in the early 90's).

The biggest band out of Arizona is Jimmy Eat World... And if you want to include a television talent show contestant winner, that's pretty much it.
