Just because I posted my manifesto which went into detail on how to properly perform a human sacrifice for pagan gods doesn't mean I'm a bad person, or breaking the law. Or, does it?

TheSignPost: jst3p: TheSignPost: The ability to comment anonymously online is a hugely problematic issue. I think that much of the hurtful and threatening language on fark and on the web generally, wouldn't be that way without anonymity. And anyone would be hard pressed to somehow convince me that anonymity presents any real benefit.

I anticipate the 'freedom of expression' argument and the issue that many people don't feel or aren't free to comment without anonymity, but I think the harm done by hateful rhetoric far outweighs that.

In attempts at humor (that are sometimes successful) I post things I would never say on, for example, my facebook account because here I don't have to worry about a potential employer or family member being offended. There is benefit to anonymity in my opinion.

Fine, but that falls under the 'freedom of expression' where you don't feel free to comment without anonymity. I get that it's important to you, but I don't think the freedom to make risque jokes without offending family or employers is important enough to justify the hatred that comes out of anonymous online comments overall.

Freedom is scary. Don't worry though, we are getting rid of it.

And I think a lot of the problem of 'what is hateful' would solve itself, by taking away anonymity - if people have to put their name to comments, they will moderate themselves.
