Jon iz teh kewl: i was actually nervous they were talking about the commenter "Jon iz teh kewl"

I have often wondered about your chosen name, does it have anything to do with an internet famous flash video from long ago called l33t?

Link

In my opinion it is still one of the funniest things ever released to the intertubes.

Nana's Vibrator: In this case, who cares? This commenter may or may not have been directly involved in illegal activity. Or perhaps they were talking out of their rear end from some cornfield.
Match the commenter's name with the jurors' names and there's your answer. Dishes are done. Even appoint arbitration so the person stays anonymous if he or she was not involved.
If a judge or attorney is angered and wants to know my identity because I said I prefer brunettes to blondes and Han took the one and only shot, that's when we're all in trouble.

A Topeka newspaper has been ordered to identify the person who posted a comment on its website about a story on a murder trial. At the time, the commenter apparently was serving on the jury for that same trial.

This was a special case, caused by a complete dumbass that so richly deserves the contempt hammer that is getting ready to come down on his head. Just because you are online doesn't mean you can't break the law.

You know, your honor, when you were telling us "Do not discuss the case out side of the blah blah blah," I was mentally undressing the rape victim and thinking how nice it would be if I slathered strawberry preserves all over her and then did her just the way the Prosecutor says Roscoe did it. By the way, High five, there, Rosco. I know you can't high five back. You're in chains.

Anyhow, the guy at the bar always asks how my day was, so I talked to him about it. And I called my brother in law because the $4.50 you pay me to be here is still more than he makes, the lazy SOB. I may have tweeted about it. I'm not sure. I guess you can say I really don't get 'tweeting' but I was on a website and I talked about it. But I do get blogging. It's all over my blog. And Youtube.

The newspaper, though. Who's gonna read that? A couple of 70 year old J-school drop outs who read the newspaper and listen to the radio on their front porches. Newspapers. Informational dinosaurs, am I right? So, no harm there, right Judge?

That person is believed to have been a juror in the first-degree murder trial of Anceo D. Stovall, 27, who was being tried on 11 charges that included the shooting death of Natalie Gibson and the wounding of her partner, Lori Allison, during a robbery last year.

Stovall's attorney, Jonathan Phelps, said BePrepared posted at 1:45 p.m. July 21: "Trust me that's all they got in their little world, as you know, I have been there. Remember the pukes names they will do it for ever."

OK not sure what he meant by his comments but it seems like the poster is for frying the SOB in the tiral which makes this story even sadder!

I would've been less irate if said poster was going real lenient o the murder or if it was a case of mistaken identity or other miscarriage of law etc...

The ability to comment anonymously online is a hugely problematic issue. I think that much of the hurtful and threatening language on fark and on the web generally, wouldn't be that way without anonymity. And anyone would be hard pressed to somehow convince me that anonymity presents any real benefit.

I anticipate the 'freedom of expression' argument and the issue that many people don't feel or aren't free to comment without anonymity, but I think the harm done by hateful rhetoric far outweighs that.

Uh, yeah. When you're on a jury, it is frowned upon (illegal) to post about the case during deliberations.

In this situation, this was appropriate.

Now if it was because the person was voicing an unpopular opinion, I'd have a problem with it.

In attempts at humor (that are sometimes successful) I post things I would never say on, for example, my facebook account because here I don't have to worry about a potential employer or family member being offended. There is benefit to anonymity in my opinion.

Trolling is a phase. Lot's of us go through it. And then once in a while you come home from an absolutely terrible day and regress over politics, but even that gets rarer (or has for me). The days of enjoying negative attention just for kicks are getting farther behind me every day. And I'm pretty sure it's not just because I'm a happier person now.

Problem lies with what is considered hateful rhetoric. Who determines it?

What is okay today will be rhetoric tomorrow and vice versa.

Not an easily dealt with issue either way.
