Walk it off, kids. Math is your friend. Honestly, everything is easier after Algebra II.

Yeah, until I got to algebraic topology.

Truth. I've never met anything that I found so interesting, yet so hard to understand

maybe the area of the brain that is triggered by math and pain is just the "do not want" area...

At least TFA has an accurate headline. Newser actually has Math Can Hurt You-Physically, which isn't what the actual text says at all.

In my case; it might be penguin induced PTSD. I went to a catholic grade school and a catholic high school.

Math is easier when you come to the realization that everything is addition.

It's never anything more than adding this thing here to this other thing over here.

Studying for GMAT.. hitting math concepts I didn't take in high school many years ago. SO yes, math = pain.

After barely passing and algebra II twice, I said farkit, and took physics so I'd hopefully learn some type of useful highschool math and it actually worked. Ended up doing most the 'splainin to the college level math folks how stuff worked, and the proofs. So then they got the homework done faster during class for us so it was W /MFW

/interesting story bro

When I was younger and suffered from mild OCD (chewing the same number of times on each side of my mouth etc) I could learn math with ease. Now that I'm older and have far less energy, I find it more difficult. And with math, if you don't use it you lose it.

Ahem... Math does not get easier past algebra 2, but it does get more useful.

Learned response.

Tell someone that something is hard, enough times, they'll hate it/fear it before they try it.

I know! I've never had to use exponents in my life ever again, but a day doesn't go by without having to whip up a discontinuous Galerkin spectral element method.

1) Researchers find anxiety about math triggers the same brain activity associated with physical sensation of pain.
2) Anyone who tells me you can muliply letters by numbers is nuts. "Green times banana = crocodile".

Sure.

The only thing dumber is "music is math".

I enjoyed and am fascinated by the real-world applications of physics but I just fell to pieces trying to DO the math. Simply do not have a head for arithmetic.

Give people a choice in the pain. Finish the math problem and feel made up mental pain, or don't finish it and the teacher gets to use a tazer.

Whole country of A+ math students in 3 months. Take that Korea!!!!

Everything is a feeling.
Language, like emotion, is an abstraction of that feeling; the description of the moment after the moment has passed.
This the old mythos/logos war, that only logos fights. Mythos feels too good to bother ;)

I like Science, yet I don't like Math. I don't understand why that's the case seeing as how they are both interconnected in numerous areas.

I blame ugly math teacher teaching me integral calculus.
