I guess I can understand the desire to live in an abode that perhaps having the wealth of a living god could afford you, but all those designs and such would really give me a head ache after a while.

I've been to a number of imperial palaces over the years, but while they are nice to visit the bright colors would get old real quick. You know who has a nice, low key palace? The Medici.

You know what they could use? A little gold leaf, they seemed to be a tad conservative with it.

I was thinking add a few table games and some slots and who would know the difference.

Mitt Romney's summer house.

He likes to rough it up on occasion, live life with less gold and jewels surrounding him. This is where he goes to do that.

Russians have never been known for their tastes.

I always know when a soviet-bloc family moves onto the block when thoes faux-chrome handrails go up on their stoop.

There was a group of Russian women who belonged to my gym for a bit. They all quit once they realized it wasn't a good place to be hunting for a husband. They were all very flirty and would do ANYTHING to snag a left hand ring. Truly a scary group.

Scrolled through the whole thing and did not see one comfy chair. Not one. Also, those polished marble floors would be terrible traction for my dogs as they tore through the house/palace.

/guess I wasn't cut out to be royalty

Gotta agree that the Russians aren't really known for either their taste. Reminds me of a Russian dining/dance club I went to on occasion in Beijing.

Imagine a large size dining hall where everything covered in (fake) gold leaf, with Sun King/Versaille style chairs and tables. Flat screens everywhere showing Russian gameshows and music videos. Lots of hookers in tacky hooker wear from the former Russian republics and plenty of guys who look either like Borat or Russian mafia.

The piece de resistance is the Chinese midget at the door clad in some sort of 19th century Cossack outfit and greets customers who come in.

Fun times. Used to bring foreign business clients there for the lulz.

Same here. I would prefer a Shaker palace filled with Shaker furniture. :)

Shaker house? (Quick Google search) Although lovely and quaint in a historical way, that's a bit too 'practical' for my tastes. But still nice. If I'm going to live in my version of 'opulence,' I'd probably want to live in a old deep south plantation house replica, one that looks like Oak Alley in Louisiana.

You know, something Greek Revival-ish.

The interesting thing is that the last Tsar, Nicholas II, really didn't care for the big, fancy palace. He actually raised his family, for the most part, at a smaller, plainer place called Tsarskoe Selo (The Tsar's Village,) where everyone slept on camp beds and enjoyed nature when the kids weren't, y'know, learning to speak four languages, do heavy math and understand political science as it was understood at the time. It was a little like how Marie Antoinette liked to flee the constant drama and boredom of Versailles by visiting a little theme-park-type peasant village she'd had built and where she pretended to be an ordinary person for awhile.

...I keep thinking I could open my own house as an ordinary-life theme park for tanned-orange, bling-coated celebutantes. $1500 a week and you get to fold laundry, play with the cats and make occasional trips to Home Depot for DIY supplies. Meals included.

Not just reliance, but want. Small hearts can also be envious, even though they have no glitter. I'd say the word reliance presupposes "possesses".
